HORSE DEPARTMENT GENERAL RULES 1. 4-H and FFA Horse entries and fees are due no later than Thursday, May 17 th. THERE WILL BE NO POST ENTRIES FOR 4-H AND FFA. All Open Division horse entries and fees are due no later than Thursday, June 7 th or they will be considered post entries. Post Entries: Management reserves the right to limit the number of post entries. 4-H & FFA project books should be available upon request. 2. Enter online at www.stancofair.com All entries submitted on a paper entry form will be charged a $4.00 processing fee per Exhibitor. 3. NOTE ALL POST ENTRIES (Not including 4-H/FFA) WILL BE ACCEPTED UP TO ONE DAY (24 HOURS) PRIOR TO THE EVENT (AND THE STARTING TIME OF EVENT) AS STATED IN HANDBOOK. NO EXCEPTIONS. Post entries will be charged double entry fees. 4. All exhibitors and horses must enter the gate on the west side of fairgrounds designated as gate #9. Register at the Horse Show Office upon arrival. For safety purposes exhibitor vehicles must be removed from the horse barn, paddock and warm-up area, by 7 a.m., until conclusion of judging. 5. HORSES ARE NOT REQUIRED TO STALL ON THE GROUNDS. Anyone wishing to stall must indicate on the entry form the dates needed so that appropriate stalls may be assigned. NO REFUNDS FOR STALLS (AS PER STATE RULE II. ELIGIBILITY #6). 6. 4-H/FFA entrants may rent stalls and corals from June 30 th through July 1 st for a fee of $7.00 per day. Stall requests must be submitted with entry form. 4-H/FFA only will receive one bale of shavings per horse. Please put number of stalls and dates needed on entry. Tack stalls will be allowed if space permits. 7. A $ 5.00 Haul in fee per horse per day will be charged if you are not stalling in the fairgrounds stall area. 8. No person other than officials, stewards, attendants on duty or the judge of the division being exhibited will be admitted to the show ring. Exhibitors must stay out of the arena unless exhibiting. 9. Numbers will be assigned to each exhibitor. Exhibitors will not be allowed to participate in division unless numbers are properly displayed on Exhibitors back or Left side of horse on saddle blanket. 10. REFUNDS CAN BE REQUESTED FOR THE FOLLOWING REASONS ONLY (AS PER STATE RULE II. ELIGIBILITY #6), AND MUST BE SUBMITTED IN WRITING PRIOR TO THE CLASS EVENT IN WHICH THE ANIMAL IS ENTERED: a) sickness must include doctor s certificate b) cancellation of a class or return of entries c) accident or death d) health or soundness of animal must include veterinarian s certificate 11. The fair is not responsible for exhibitor errors on their entry forms. No refunds will be issued for incorrect information on entry forms. 12. All Horse Divisions are open to residents of Alameda, Calaveras, Mariposa, Merced, San Joaquin, Santa Clara, Stanislaus and Tuolumne counties. 13. The Stanislaus County Fair reserves the right to limit entries to available facilities. 14. Ponies may not be entered in any rail class not specified "Pony Class," except lead-line or equitation. 15. Livestock (including horses) must be owned for thirty (30) days for open department exhibitors and 120 days for 4-H/FFA department exhibitors prior to the opening date of the fair. All state rules apply. ~ 2 ~

16. All dogs MUST be on a leash and controlled by an adult at all times. 17. Full name, including middle initial must be on all entries. 18. 4-H and FFA classes may be combined, split, or cancelled to balance class sizes. 19. FFA members are required to have their record books checked or submit a signed verification form with entry. 20. NO CHECKS WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER May 24 th, THEREAFTER, FEES MUST BE PAID BY CASH, CASHIERS CHECK, MONEY ORDER, OR CREDIT CARD. NO EXCEPTIONS. $25.00 will be charged for each returned check. 21. Pony height and all 4-H and FFA rules will be enforced. 22. Picnic tables and benches are not to be moved. Camping in the stall area allowed by Fair Management approval. 23. 4-H Horse Project Verification forms must be on file by the February 26 th deadline. 24. There will be a $5.00 fee for all substitutions, CASH ONLY. 25. Only those who are entered for the 2018 horse show may be on horseback at any time, no exceptions. 26. Fair Management reserves the right to return entries transfer entries or combine divisions or classes and/or cancel any division or class in which entries are insufficient to secure adequate competition. 27. Camping fee is $15.00 for 3 days. First come first served. All campers must be moved out by July 1 st. 28. California Gymkhana Association Rule #2.3 Special Lead Line Rules for Riders who need assistance. STATE RULES 1. FIVE DOLLARS PER HORSE OR PONY DRUG FEE. 2. Unless other rules are specified, the rules and regulations prescribed by the Division of Fairs & Expositions of the California Department of Food and Agriculture will be followed. 3. Photocopies of registration certificates for horse shows may be permitted for the purpose of submitting entries. However, if the fair receives any complaint or challenge concerning the registration of any animal, the fair may request an original registration certificate and may disqualify the entry if it cannot be produced. 4. No more than one owner per animal. THREE ENTRIES BY TWO OR MORE EXHIBITORS CONSTITUTE A MINIMUM HORSE SHOW CLASS. Where entries are less than a minimum class at the closing date of entry, the class may be cancelled. Cancelled entries may be transferred without Penalty into other classes of the same division. Should entries fall below the minimum after the closing date of entry, a class may be continued with premiums at the discretion of the management. 5. For horse show purposes, the exhibitor s age on the previous January 1 st shall be maintained the entire year (for junior mount classes only). 6. Junior exhibitors (under 18 years of age) will be allowed to enter stallions in the Open Department, but cannot ride or show stallions. 7. Exhibitors found in violation of rules or in practices unethical or inimical with the fair program shall be penalized by forfeiture of premiums awarded and/or privileges as may be deemed appropriate to the circumstances. The management shall report any such exhibitors to the Division of Fairs and Expositions in writing and such reports may become the basis for any other fair to refuse entries. ~ 3 ~

OUTSTANDING EXHIBITOR forms for 4-H & FFA Exhibitors are available in the Horse Show Office or online at www.stancofair.com Entries are due no later than Thursday, May 17 th. Judging will be on Sunday, July 1 st, times to be announced. Check with your advisor or leader on due dates for outstanding exhibitor entry forms. 3. 4-H and FFA classes must be valid Horse projects and are open to residents of Alameda, Calaveras, Mariposa, Merced, San Joaquin, Santa Clara, Stanislaus & Tuolumne counties. 4. All junior exhibitors must have on ground supervision by a responsible adult. 5. All 4-H & FFA members are required to wear an ASTM approved helmet in ALL English, Western & Gymkhana Classes. 6. Exhibitors are limited to 2 years in walk/jog-trot classes. 7. If exhibitors enter walk/jog, they are not eligible for any lope classes during this fair. Exhibitors must wear the official show uniform of their organization as listed below: THE OFFICIAL 4-H UNIFORM for the Stanislaus County Fair Horse Department is as follows: BOYS Cap, to be green. White cap will be acceptable for those in 9 th grade or above; white shirt with collar, long sleeve (long required when showing horses), with minimum of five buttons in front; white or off white tailored or jeans style full-length pants, green 4-H emblem tie, shoes or boots. GIRLS May wear same as listed for boys, or may wear white blouse with same requirements as shirt, white skirt or culottes, or a white dress of similar style, green 4-H collar fastened with a simple white plastic or metal ring. APPEARANCE Cap must be worn on head, shirt must be tucked into pants, belts must be worn if pants have loops, and pants must be outside if boots are worn and 4-H collar must be over shirt collar. Baggy pants and spandex are not acceptable. English or western boots are required for horse. OFFICIAL FFA SHOW UNIFORM for the Stanislaus County Fair Horse Department is as follows: White Trousers, white long sleeved button or snap down shirt with collar with the FFA emblem attached to the left pocket, the official FFA tie for boys, official FFA scarf for girls. The official FFA jacket is optional. If worn, the shirt emblem is not required. Hats or headgear of any kind shall not be worn with the official show uniform while showing. Western or English boots are required. 4-H & FFA HORSE SHOWMANSHIP 1. Entries and all applicable fees are due no later than Thursday, May 17 th. ENTRIES IN SHOWMANSHIP MUST BE ENTERED BY THE ENTRY DEADLINe. Exhibitors must be entered and perform in an appropriate performance horse class to be eligible for showmanship. 2. The winners of 4-H Advanced Showmanship will be allowed to compete in Master Showmanship, to be held on Friday, July 20 th, @ 2:00 p.m. Showmanship for all other species will follow. The winner of FFA advanced showmanship will be allowed to compete in Master Showmanship with all other species (not including horse). Note: The two animal species limit DOES NOT INCLUDE horse for both 4-H and FFA exhibitors. Refer to the Livestock section of this handbook. 3. Use of Chain Halters are up to the horse owner while in the show arena. 4-H True Novice Showmanship 1. Open to any 4-H member, who has never shown that species before at any organized show/fair, regardless of grade level. 2. Winner of 4-H True Novice Showmanship is not eligible to move up to the next class for the final round. 4-H Novice Showmanship 1. Open only to 4-H members, 9 & 10 years old regardless of the number of years in 4-H. 2. Previous 1 st place winners of novice showmanship are not eligible to enter novice again, but may enter intermediate or advanced classes. 3. 1 st Place Winner of 4-H Novice Showmanship is not eligible to move up to the next class for the final round. 4-H Intermediate Showmanship 1. Open only to 4-H members 11, 12 & 13 years old regardless of the number of years in 4-H. 2. All advanced 4-H and FFA showmanship winners in Horse are required to participate in Master showmanship. Failure to comply will result in forfeiture of premiums. 2. All previous Master Showmanship winners from this fair are not eligible to compete in future Master Showmanship competitions at this fair. 3. The format for the Master Showmanship contest will be contestants competing in seven rounds. Each round will include 7 animals of one type, from the following livestock species: 1) Beef Cattle, 2) Dairy Cattle, 3) Swine, 4) Sheep, 5) Dairy Goat, 6) Meat Goat, 7) Horse (Horse will not be shown by FFA) 4. The Livestock & Horse Superintendent will select the animals. 5. Use of Chain Halters are up to the horse owner while in the show arena. 6. STANISLAUS COUNTY FAIR 4-H/FFA OUTSTANDING EXHIBITOR The Outstanding Exhibitor Award is a competition open to any 4-H or FFA member in good standing with their club or chapter. Members will be judged on their participation at the Fair including market show, breeding/exhibition show and showmanship. Also on the condition of their animals, exhibits and their knowledge of their project. Separate awards are available for Beef, Cavy, Dairy, Dairy Goat, Dog, Horse, Meat Goat, Poultry, Rabbit, Sheep, Swine, Ag Horticulture, Ag Mechanics and Ornamental Horticulture Outstanding Exhibitors must enter online by Thursday, May 17 th, 2018 No late entries will be accepted Instructions Please read all sections of this packet. Submit SEPARATE AND SPECIFIC information for each species. Place all items in a folder and turn in to the Livestock Office. Record Books for 4-H Exhibitors are not required to be turned in to the Livestock office, but MUST be brought to the scheduled interview and can be picked up in the Livestock Office after the completion of judging.
