MARK SCHEME GCSE PHYSICAL EDUCATION PAPER 2 SPECIMEN ASSESSMENT MATERIAL Possible content may include: AO1 Knowledge of strategies used to combat hooliganism, eg Early kick-offs Segregation of fans Alcohol restrictions AO2 Application to football matches, eg Early kick-offs eg local derby or rival matches Segregation of fans eg home and away fans kept separate / at different ends of the ground Alcohol restrictions eg no alcohol allowed in the stands AO3 Analysis/evaluation of the effectiveness of the strategies, eg Early kick offs pubs not open as long so less alcohol consumed by fans so reduces the opportunity for hooliganism/violence to occur but fewer away fans travel to games / reduces the atmosphere Segregation of fans enter and leave matches at different times which reduces the opportunity of violence occurring but fans can organise to meet elsewhere for violence, takes too much time to get in and out of football grounds, which is off-putting Alcohol restrictions alcohol being banned in the ground means that fans will be less likely to be fuelled by alcohol but can purchase alcohol before the game, eg in the pub Credit other suitable responses relevant to the question. 9
