The curtain comes down on the 2015-16 campaign following the team s Saturday contest at Marshall. The Golden Eagles snapped a seven-game losing streak last Saturday on its Senior Night with an 81-70 victory over North Texas. Seniors Kourtlin and Michael O Donnell each had stellar evenings to lead the home squad. notched a game-high 27 points, including 6-of-6 free throws in the final minute, while O Donnell scored a career-best 16 points. The Golden Eagles have used 11 different starting combinations this season. Southern Miss changed the lineup for the first time in 13 games against Rice (2/25) as both Michael Ramey and Michael O Donnell each got starting nods in place of Keljin and Quinton Campbell. The starting five of Khari, Kourtlin, Raheem Watts, and Campbell has been used 14 times overall and started in each of the previous 12 games prior to the Owls contest. is the only Golden Eagle to start in all 27 contests. Southern Miss lost the services of Eddie Davis III for the season, who suffered a foot injury in late December. Senior Michael O Donnell missed six games with a shoulder injury in January before returning to action Feb. 4 against North Texas. Khari collected his third double-double of the season versus UAB on Feb. 11, with 14 points and a career-best 12 assists. has three of the Golden Eagles four double-doubles this season with Keljin registering the team s other one. is averaging 7.0 assists over the last seven games. And the two Golden Eagles who were playing for the final time at Green Coliseum gave the 3,693 on hand something to remember them by. Senior guard Kourtlin scored a game-high 27 points and senior forward Michael O Donnell added a career-best 16 in the swan songs on their home court as the Golden Eagles ran away from North Texas 81-70. It was pretty emotional for both of us, said O Donnell, who put up the first points of the game by knocking down a long-range 3-pointer. We both had our families out here, so we both wanted to come out here and get the win, play hard. We were able to come out here and get the job done. In the process, Southern Miss won for the first time in February, snapping a seven-game losing streak and avenging a 70-54 loss in Denton, Texas, on Feb. 4. Southern Miss coach Doc Sadler credited the win in large part to a defensive effort that forced 15 turnovers, including 12 steals, allowing the Golden Eagles to outscore the Mean Green 20-5 in points off turnovers. North Texas (11-18, 6-10) was led by sophomore forward Jeremy Combs, who logged his 11th double-double in 16 conference games with 15 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. Guard Ja Michael Brown had 15 points as well, while guards J-Mychal Reese and Carrington Ward added 13 points each. and O Donnell were joined in double figures by guard Michael Ramey, who scored all 11 of his points in the first half. Swingman Quinton Campbell had nine points, a team-high eight rebounds and three assists while point guard Khari had seven points, six rebounds and a game-high eight assists. The Golden Eagles never trailed in the game, and after leading by as many as 11 points in the first half, settled for a 35-30 halftime lead. Southern Miss led by as many as 17 points in the second half. North Texas drew within nine, 71-62, on a 3-pointer by Brown with 1:04 to play, and twice had cut the deficit to eight, the last on a Ward layup with 46 seconds to play. But made a pair of free throws and Campbell dropped in four more down the stretch to more than offset a 3-pointer by Allante Houston with five seconds to play. HATTIESBURG, Miss. - After a fast start, Southern Miss fell behind and could never catch up, as it fell, 73-62, to Western Kentucky at Reed Green Coliseum. Chip Armelin led the way with 22 points and a career-high nine rebounds. Norville Carey added 16 points, six rebounds and a career-high five steals and Davon Hayes chipped in with 11 points off the bench. Southern Miss got out to a fast start when Matt Bingaya hit a threepointer to open the game. WKU scored two straight baskets to take the lead, but jumpers from Carey and Armelin gave it right back to the Golden Eagles. Ben Lawson hit a jumper for the Hilltoppers, but a layup from Carey gave Southern Miss a 9-6 lead, 5:07 into the game. However, the Black and Gold missed four of its next six shots, as WKU went on a 14-4 run over the next 5:47 to take a 20-13 lead. Kevin Holland hit a three-pointer, but two straight buckets made it an eight-point lead. After the teams traded baskets, Shadell Millinghaus made one-of-two free throws. The teams again traded baskets, before T.J. made two straight. Kevin Holland then made one-of-three free throws, but Justin Johnson converted a putback dunk off of Trency s missed three-pointer, give Western Kentucky its largest lead of the half, 34-22, with 2:36 to play. However, consecutive three-pointers by Armelin and Hayes cut the deficit to 34-28 at the half. WKU opened the second half scoring seven of the first eight points over the first 3:40 to take a 41-29 lead. Armelin gave Southern Miss its first basket of the half with a running jumper, but hit a pair of free throws to push the lead back to 12. The teams then traded three-pointers.
