Trailing by five early in the third, Kristi Toliver's threepoint play ignited a string of 12 unanswered points that gave the Mystics their largest advantage of the night at 57-50. Monique Currie opened the fourth quarter with a jumper to keep Washington in front by four, but Whalen's go-ahead 3-pointer at the 8:22 mark highlighted a 13-0 response and the Lynx extended their lead to 85-74 on Fowles' layup and a Whalen free throw with 2:23 to play. After a Myisha Hines-Allen trey narrowed the deficit to five in the final minute, Washington came up empty on its final trip.
