Climate and weather Weather: Summer in Lisbon is hot and sunny and temperatures in August can reach up to 30 C. Classes will be held on Friday evening and Saturday and Sunday mornings and will cover Kizomba, Semba and Afro-Rhythms. Your Salsa course will be at least 2 hours long and will be suitable for beginner and improver dancers. Dance Levels: There is a level decider on the first day which ensures that you are in the level most appropriate to your ability and experience. Nightlife Lisbon nightlife is unrivalled in Europe and Kizomba s popularity is firmly established amongst the city s trendy urban crowd. Although created in Angola Kizomba is often considered Portuguese due to the influence of immigrants living in Lisbon and other Portuguese cities and their contribution to the evolution of the genre. Many of Lisbon s top nightclubs hold weekly Kizomba nights and other venues are dedicated solely to the genre. Anyone wishing to experience the sensual soul of Kizomba should immerse themselves in Lisbon s lively scene. Your Teachers Robert and Jean White of Mambo City will be hosting this holiday and they bring with them a wealth of experience, working with some of the best Kizomba teachers both from the UK and Portugal. Robert and Jean began Salsa dancing in 1992 with the first generation of UK instructors including Xihomara Granados, Nelson Batiste, Ramiro Zapata and Zina. They have since gone on to work with and learn different styles from Salsa luminaries including Eddie Torres, Nelson Flores (Descarga Latina), Thomas Guerrero (SantoRico), Frankie Martínez and many others. They launched MamboCity in 1999, principally for the purpose of teaching and organising Salsa groups and in more recent years have become been instrumental in raising the standards of dance, including Kizomba, both in the UK and abroad.

They are present from arrival until you go home, and also actively participate in the social events. Whilst it should be noted that they cannot be present at every moment (as they sometimes must prepare other activities for your holiday), their role is to facilitate as much as possible that you have an unforgettable holiday. Overview of the Week and Welcome Drink: At the beginning of the week there is an Overview of the Week where Robert and Jean will tell you about all details of your holiday over a welcome drink. At the Overview of the Week you can buy your optional extras (see above). Getting Around: You are responsible for making your own way to the dance classes and meeting points on the itinerary. We will point out those times when it is sensible to take a taxi. Free time: We encourage you to explore the local area and make use of the excellent hotel facilities. This can be done when you please around the activities and dance classes that we have organised for you. Robert and Jean will be on hand for any queries you may have about the local area. However you should be able to dance for at least two hours a day in order to be able to enjoy the dance classes. Insurance, Visa and Passport Requirements: In brief, Insurance is a condition of booking. You must check with your local embassy regarding Visa and passport requirements. British nationals need a full passport to travel to Portugal. Travel Documents: You receive these 10 days prior to daparture. We also confirm the address and phone number of the hotel and the emergency contact numbers. Essential equipment What to wear for dancing: We recommend that you bring shoes with a leather sole for the dance classes and the and clothing to bring evenings. Your shoes should be comfortable and supportive. Wear lightweight cotton socks to avoid sweaty and blistered feet! Wear comfortable loose clothing for the classes. The Lisbon Kizomba clubs are quite informal - it is common for both men and women to wear jeans. Most of them do not allow shorts or trainers. At Your Destination Banks and Money: The easiest way to buy obtain euros is by using a credit card at one of the numerous cash points. You can buy small amounts, as often as you like, at any time, without queuing. You will need to know your
P.I.N. Cash points are very easy to use. Bank opening hours are normally 9.00 a.m. to 2.00 p.m. Banks will change cash, travellers cheques and will sell you currency on your credit card providing the lines are open. You will always need to show your passport at a bank. Tipping is generally less common in Portugal than back home. There is no need to tip taxis but it is usual to leave a 5-10% tip at a restaurant if you are particularly pleased with your dinner/lunch. We feel our tour hosts work hard to give you an exceptional holiday and sometimes you may find that they add some special touches which are beyond the call of duty.
