"I wonder if the snow loves the trees and fields that it kisses them so gently? And then it covers them up snug, you know, with a white quilt; and perhaps it says, 'Go to sleep, darlings, till the summer comes again.'" - Lewis Carroll Well, it seems like we had just finished our Thanksgiving meal, pushed ourselves away from the table, put the leftover turkey away, watched the last of the football games, when we were suddenly immersed in record snow. I hope you and yours were safe and did not suffer any hardship as a result of the big winter storm. The golf course has gone to sleep for the year, and now we are preparing for the big holiday season. It s a tremendously busy time with a lot of commitments, but I want to remind you that Oakwood Country Club does not go to sleep during the season. If you look at the activity calendar for the month of December, our Clubhouse and Entertainment committee has prepared a cornucopia of activities in which you can participate. I want to thank those of you who came out for the Cocktails and Golf Sale. There was great attendance, and those of you who came know you got some really good deals. I know I did! As you may have seen, that sale will continue in the Pro Shop through December, so you can still get those last-minute Christmas purchases for the golfer in your life, or the golfer in the mirror. Our new committees have been formed, and there is always room for more members to participate. Also, committee members may solicit ideas from you. Please give generously, but constructively. He who marvels at the beauty of the world in summer will find equal cause for wonder and admiration in winter. - John Burroughs The management and staff of your club puts a lot of time and energy in decorating the clubhouse and providing a warm holiday atmosphere for you, your family, and friends to enjoy. Remember that your dues do not cover the whole budget of the club. What really keeps the club financially sound is your participation in the club activities. I want to invite you to enjoy those activities that are upcoming with your friends, families, or business associates. Oakwood-it s where you belong! On behalf of the Board of Directors, the management team, and all the service staff, I want to wish you and your family the most joyous of holiday seasons. John Golden

On behalf of the Oakwood staff I would like to personally thank you for your generous contributions to the Employee Christmas Fund. For those of you heading to warmer climates we will see you in the Spring. Have a very Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and Holiday Season. Mark Kids Culinary Camp & Golf Sale

Golf Shop Talk December 2018 Happy Holidays from the Golf Shop Staff! We hope everyone enjoys their time with loved ones as the holidays near. As the weather gets cold, and the days become shorter, don t forget we have many reciprocal clubs in warmer climates. If you are planning a getaway and have any questions on our reciprocal programs please call or e-mail the golf shop. Eric Drane, PGA Head Golf Professional Golf Tips - Tree Trouble It is easy to compound mistakes after we hit a drive off line into the trees. When I get into tree trouble out on the golf course, my main focus is getting out of trouble and setting myself up for the rest of the hole. 1. Maintain your focus It is very easy to get frustrated after a bad drive. Focus on the next shot! 2. Set-up is key to hitting the punch shot Choose a low lofted club - Long Iron / Hybrid / Fairway Wood Ball position back in your stance Shaft leaning forward - Takes loft off the club 3. Survey the situation Focus on where you want to play the next shot from The lie may dictate what shot you can hit Survey the terrain - can you use it to your advantage? Commit to the shot you choose 4. Swing Focus on shaft leaning forward down through impact Make sure to turn your body through to complete the swing Watch my video as I demonstrate these tips out on the golf course.
