COLORADO RAPIDS vs. REAL SALT LAKE TEN THINGS TO KNOW By the numbers: here are 10 stats from the Rapids' 1-1 tie with FC Dallas at Dick s Sporting Goods Park on Saturday night. 1. Stefan Aigner has now scored in successive games after giving the Rapids the lead against FC Dallas with his second goal in MLS. His scores have come from just two shots on target. 2. Aigner s goal was the Rapids first against FC Dallas in the league since Dominique Badji struck at Toyota Stadium in a 1-0 win on September 10, 2016. 3. The goal at the weekend was only the fourth scored by the Rapids inside the first 15 minutes, and the third scored in the 15th minute. The team s earliest goal of 2017 remains Kortne Ford s 11th minute in the 1-0 home win over SKC on May 27. 4. The header from Atiba Harris to level the scores now means the Rapids are without a clean sheet at home in the last 10 matches. Their last shutout at Dick s Sporting Goods Park came against Sporting KC (see above). 5. Mohammed Saeid crept over 2,000 minutes for the Rapids on Saturday in making his 27th appearance and 25th start for the club. He now has MLS career-high goals, minutes, appearances, and starts while representing one club in a season. 6. Dallas restricted the Rapids to just seven shots (four on target). This is the first time in 10 games that the Rapids have failed to register double digit shots in a game. 7 With the tie, the Rapids are now without a home win over FC Dallas in the last five meetings (0-1-4). Their last win over Dallas in Commerce City came on September 14, 2013. 8. Aigner s goal took the team total to 30 for the season. Only twice before have the Rapids failed to tally at least 30 goals in a season, scoring 29 in 2004 and 2007 (from 30 games). 9. Alan Gordon made his first start since May 17, playing 71 minutes. Only twice before in Rapids colors has he spent longer on the field, going 90 minutes in his previous start (@ CHI) and 73 minutes in the home loss (vs. VAN) on May 5. 10. And, having played the full 90 minutes only once previously in MLS prior to the home win over Montreal Impact (vs. LA Galaxy June 21), Joshua Gatt has now gone the distance in the last two. DOYLE RETIRES On Thursday, September 28, forward Kevin Doyle announced his retirement from professional soccer, culminating an impressive 16-year playing career in Ireland, England and most recently, the United States with the Rapids. This season, Doyle had appeared in 25 of the first 26 regular season contests, before suffering a concussion in the first half of the September 2 match against LA. Prior to the injury, Doyle ranked second on the team in goals (5) and assists (4). Doyle, 34, arrived in Commerce City mid-way through the 2015 campaign as the club s third-ever Designated Player. In two-and-a-half seasons with the club, Doyle appeared in 71 regular season matches, notching 16 goals and eight assists. The Irish forward was an instrumental part of a Rapids team that fell one game short of the 2016 MLS Cup, a season in which he found the back of the net six times in regular season play, before adding another goal in the first-leg of the Western Conference Championship against Seattle Sounders FC. RAPIDS, MASTROENI PART WAYS On August 15, the Rapids announced that the club parted ways with head coach Pablo Mastroeni, effective immediately. The club also announced Steve Cooke s appointment to the position on an interim basis. After a 16-year MLS career, Mastroeni was named head coach of the Rapids prior to the 2014 season. He would go on to post a 39-54-35 record, including a 6-12-4 record this season. Mastroeni led the club to a trip to the Western Conference Championship last season. Prior to arriving in Colorado in 2010, Cooke served as a development academy coach at Sheffield Wednesday from 1990-96. Additionally, he spent 10 years as Assistant Director of Coaching for Sereno Soccer Club and SC del Sol in Phoenix. Steve Cooke joined the Colorado Rapids Development Academy in 2010. Along with Development Academy responsibilities, Cooke was appointed to Oscar Pareja s staff in 2012 to work with the first team. In 2014, Cooke was then appointed as first team assistant coach to Mastroeni and had been in that role since.

COLORADO RAPIDS vs. REAL SALT LAKE MATCH REPORT - COLORADO RAPIDS 1-1 FC DALLAS (10/7/17) A tightly-contested match at Dick s Sporting Goods Park resulted in a 1-1 draw between the Colorado Rapids Soccer Club and FC Dallas on Saturday night. German winger Stefan Aigner tallied his second goal in as many matches to give the Rapids the early lead, but former Colorado defender Atiba Harris leveled the game nine minutes into the second half, splitting the points for the second time this season. The Rapids first chance came six minutes into the match when Aigner sent a well-placed corner into the box, finding the head of Axel Sjöberg. The Swedish defender s attempt was cleared out of danger after bouncing off the post after a slight deflection by Hedges. The home side would break through in the 15th minute, when Aigner sent his shot past Dallas goalkeeper Jesse Gonzalez, capping off a smooth give-and-go between with him and midfielder Joshua Gatt. FC Dallas brought their first effort on goal through Roland Lamah. After moving the ball into open space at the top of the box, the Ivorian forward fired a low shot towards the corner of the goal, but Rapids keeper Zac MacMath was there to push it away. Colorado nearly doubled the lead in the 32nd minute when Alan Gordon received an Aigner cross, but his powerful left-footed strike on goal was met by a strong hand from Gonzalez. The second half began with another miraculous save by Gonzalez, keeping his team in the match. Aigner lobbed a cross to the back post where Gordon was ready to meet it with his head. The forward hit it across the face of goal but the Dallas keeper made finger-tip contact, denying Gordon for the second time on the night. The equalizer would come in the 54th minute after the referee awarded Dallas a questionable corner kick. Javier Morales sent in an out-swinging ball that was met by Harris, who hammered the ball down and in to the back of the net. The remainder of the game was played out with both teams sharing possession but neither side able to take home all three points. COLORADO RAPIDS vs. REAL SALT LAKE POST-GAME QUOTES - COLORADO RAPIDS 1-1 FC DALLAS (10/7/17) Interim Head Coach Steve Cooke Colorado Rapids On tonight s game Pleased with the start we made, I think we moved the ball well early on, created a couple of good chances, one of which we scored. It was a great goal, Stefan Aigner again coming from behind the back four and finding a way to squeeze it under the goalkeeper. Did well a couple of set pieces early on, we were really tight and getting it to them. Unfortunate not to win the game. The players deserved that to win and it would have been nice to give that to the fans and reward their loyalty. Give them something to cheer about. Credit to FC Dallas. On balance of game FC Dallas is a very good attacking team and they re a quick attacking team. Not only do they have good technical players on the ball but they also have the pace to get behind it pretty quickly and threaten behind the back four as well as play good football in front of the back four. Tonight, we handled that very well and early in the game and late in the game we were always a threat on the counter attack. I think one player who deserves a lot of credit is Alan Gordon, he was in the game and made a big impact to hold the ball up and allow those quicker players to get forwards behind him. I was disappointed he didn t get that goal. On Stefan Aigner s impact He is getting better, he is improving all the time and his fitness it still not there. I don t think people appreciate when you have a couple of months off then you come and join a new group and you re moving house and your family is trying to settle in a new place, there are a lot of factors going into it. He has done good work and he is building his game fitness as well. He has obviously got some quality on the ball and his passing tonight was really good. Midfielder Mohammed Saeid Colorado Rapids On his position and the goal A lot of running. It s okay as long as I get the ball. I was getting much more of the ball and I m able to pass it forward for the first goal. Passed it to [Stefan] Aigner and he turned and that s how we got the goal. Hopefully, I can do more of that and get some assists from there. On Stefan Aigner s impact He is dangerous, you can see that. He scores goals and he was close to getting an assist today. The keeper made a brilliant save on [Alan] Gordon s [shot]. His movements are good, so for me as a defensive midfielder it s easy to find him and get some passes together and we did that in the first half a lot. In the second half, we got tired a little bit and Dallas kept the ball a lot and got us on the back foot. Midfielder Joshua Gatt Colorado Rapids On the first goal of the night It was just a great play, if you look through it, we broke the lines and we attacked aggressively. I got the ball out wide and I heard him yell and I was able to pick my head up and see him make that run near post. I just tried to slot it to the best position to give him a chance, he did excellent with it and finished it well. On first half performance I think it was one of the halves where we really tried to go forward more than we really have a lot this season. We played a lot of balls over the top, we played a lot of balls up high to Alan Gordon and Dominique Badji and me as well. We were trying to get a lot of balls forward, just trying to get pressure on them and it showed. They were a little overwhelmed by us offensively for the first 25 minutes.
