Mississippi Braves (16-10, 49-45) vs Mobile BayBears (15-10, 49-45) RHP Victor Mateo (6-5, 2.74) vs RHP Braden Shipley (6-8, 4.31) Overall (49-45) 1st Half (33-35) 2nd Half (16-10) Game #95 July 23, 2015 Pearl, MS Trustmark Park TODAY S GAME: The M-Braves look to start a new win streak after their six-gamer was snapped on Wednesday night against the Mobile BayBears. Right-hander Victor Mateo takes the baseball against BayBears right-hander Braden Shipley. LAST TIME OUT: Mississippi went just 1-for-13 with runners in scoring position and the Mobile BayBears held on for a 2-1 win on Wednesday night, snapping the M-Braves six-game win streak. Greg Ross allowed just two runs on five hits over six innings, nabbing a quality start but taking the loss. Mississippi scored their lone run in the first inning after Sean Godfrey singled, stole second, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on an Emerson Landoni RBI single. Mobile took the lead for good in the third inning on a Zach Borenstein RBI single. AJ Schugel picked up the win, while Ross took the loss. ON A ROLL, LIKE BUTTER: The M-Braves have won 10 of their last 13 games dating back to July 9. They rattled off six straight wins from 7/16-21, matching their longest streak this season. They last won six in a row April 17-23 against Jackson and Chattanooga. RECORD-BREAKING WILD WIN: Thursday night s 15-14 M-Braves win over Jacksonville set season-highs and new records. The 29 total runs set a new record for most combined runs in a game, breaking the previous mark set at 28 on May 18, 2008 at Chattanooga, a 17-11 loss. The 10-run comeback broke the previous high of six runs on May 5, 2010 against Birmingham, a 7-6 win. The 10-run third inning set a new team record for most runs in an inning. SECOND HALF TEAM: The M-Braves have consistently been a second-half team through their 11-year history, posting a 365-399 (.478 win percentage) mark in the first half, compared to a 356-353 (.502 win percentage) in the second half. The Braves have finished with a better second-half record than first-half record for seven consecutive seasons, dating back to 2008. POWER SURGE: 22 days into the month of July, the M-Braves have already hit more home runs (9) than any other month so far in 2015. Eric Garcia s two-run home run Thursday in the third completed a 10-run frame and comeback in the M-Braves 15-14 win. The surge comes after the M-Braves managed just two home runs from May 18 to June 30, a span of 37 games over which they were 16-21. 269 WINS AND COUNTING: Monday s 1-0 win over Jackson was manager Aaron Holbert s 269th career M-Braves victory, putting him alone atop the M-Braves all-time list. Holbert enters today s game with a record of 270-241 over three-plus seasons. Phillip Wellman previously held the wins record at 268-285 over four seasons. UNDER THREE HOURS: Wednesday s 3:07 game time was just the 19th M-Braves game in 2015 to last more than three hours. Through this many games last year, the M-Braves had already played 35 contests of three-plus hours, playing 44 total by the end of the campaign. The average game time in the Southern League is down 12 minutes from 2:52 in 2014 to 2:40 in 2015, while game times in AAA and AA (leagues with pitch clocks) are down 11 minutes on average.
