Information Bulletin LIEGE The city of Liège is located in the east part of Belgium, not far from the Netherlands and Germany. Liège is a major city in Wallonia (French-speaking) with 196 000 inhabitants. It is located near big cities such as Genk (55 km), Brussels (97 km), Charleroi (93 km) and Maastricht (53 km). The city is well known for its very crowded folk festivals and is a major educational hub in Belgium. There are 42 000 pupils attending more than 24 schools. The University of Liège, founded in 1817, has 20 000 students. In spring, Liège hosts the start and finish of the annual Liège Bastogne Liège cycling race, one of the spring classics. The hotels in the city are becoming quickly fully booked for the end of November, please therefore proceed with your bookings as soon as possible. Important note: Reservations should be made directly with hotels (contacts available below). There are more options and availabilities for large quota if you book your rooms via the hotels. Please see below a list of accommodation recommended by the organiser : For general information, you can also contact the Tourism Office of Liège: www.visitezliege.be/en FOOD AND BEVERAGE Food and drinks stands will be available for purchase for spectators around the venue. A unique pre-paid card system for food&beverage will be in place in the entire venue. The pre-paid cards for athletes and officials will be available for purchase at the Permanence and can be reloaded with cash or maestro. A non-smoking room will be specifically dedicated to the athletes. No cash will be accepted in the food and drink areas (included athletes restaurant and partyhall). Water will be provided for athletes (only in the training and competition sports hall). TRANSPORTATION Airport If you travel by plane, we advice to fly to the international airport Brussels Airport Zaventem, situated 97 km from Liège (50 min). From the airport, there are good connections to Liège by train or car. The cost for a one way train ticket (adult) Brussels-Liège is approx. EUR 15. This train station has a good connection to big cities and is located 10 km from the Countryhall (approx. 30 minutes with public transportation). National teams - Airport pick-up A transport service can be provided between Brussels airport and hotels on arrival and departure (fee apply). The shuttle service will include the transportation of your personal belongings and the cycling equipment of your participants and will only be provided from Brussels airport. For any pick-up requests, please fill-in the booking form which must be submitted to: indoorcyclingliege2018@gmail.com before Saturday 10 November. Passed this deadline, the organiser won t accept any bookings for organisational reasons. Your reservation will be effective once the payment has been done and that you have received a confirmation email from the organiser. If you arrive to a different airport, the transport can be organised, but the prices applied will be different as the ones from Brussels airport.
