JMRC News Volume 5 Issue 3 for launch at Three Oaks. Unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate and the rocked did not fly. Mark Schaffer became the newest member of JMRC. Mark had a successful level one flight with his rocket Velociraptor on an I195-11 motor. Two 2011 contest flights were made. Fred Ziegler is the current contest leader with a flight of 1480 feet. Fred flew his DeBauchery rocket on a G-69 motor. Fay Tomlinson made a successful Junior Level One flight with her rocket Noon to the Moon using a H143SS motor. Fay is a foreign exchange student from the country of Kenya. The village of Malindi where she lives has around 2,000 Fred Ziglers upscale 220 Swift with a Red Arrow nozzle retainer. Program and has visited many countries in that capacity. Pinky did her usual outstanding job, preparing and serving lunch at the JMRC Café. Terry Leright attended the launch and brought the carbon fiber kit he had donated to the club. He also brought his latest project with him. The rocket is really impressive. I am not sure I could fly a rocket that looked that good! Chris Palmer and Barbie attended the launch. As usual, Chris gave Barbie a very exciting day. During the day Tony Haga announced this is definitely a heads up flight I didn t hear the name, but I was sure that Chris was flying something Jim Fustini & his AIM-9 Sidewinder scratch built We have just learned that the April launch will be the last one we will have at MIS until the fall. The Board of Directors has moved the two day May launch to the MMAR. They have also applied for a waiver to fly at a field that Buzz Nau has located and received permission for us to use. Our current plans are to hold a launch at the new field in June. Photo s by Buzz Nau & Bob Dickinson people and is primarily a fishing village. Fay is currently living with her host family/parents in Omer, Michigan attending High School as a senior. Her goal is to return to the United States to become an Aerospace Engineer at the University of Arizona. Mark Schaffer, who is Fay s exchange father for this school year also achieved L1 during the same launch. Mark lives in Omer.and Is a husband and father of 3. He is the head of plant services for the Omer school district. He enjoys many outdoor activities. He is a United States Ambassador for the AYA Foreign Exchange Student 2011 CONTESTS We will be holding a 2011 altitude contest at each launch this year. It will run until the 2011 Christmas party, or till the altitude is hit. Half of the money donated will be paid as the prize. The rules will be the same as the 2010 contest. We will also have random altitude contests at some launches. In addition we will have a Bunny Chute, Masters Tournament and the second annual Turkey Chute. Each of these will operate the same as the Turkey Chute we had in November. Participation in these contests is a fun way to help finance club activities.

JMRC News Page 3 Tony, Chris, Tom and Art visiting between flights. JMRC GROUP PROJECT At the April launch Terry Leright and Scott Miller proposed that we start another Yahoo group to develop a multistage rocket with the ability to have in flight control. Here is Scott s description of the project; On a different note Terry has a booster built and wants to turn it into a group project and what will be involved needs a lot of people! If anyone is interested please feel free to join a separate group created for this project at... http://groups.yahoo.com/group/jmrcgroupproject This project will need help in many areas such as design, construction, simulation, website, Class 3 Waiver process, electronics, GPS, active stability, and the countless other areas that we haven't thought of yet. Again we want anyone and/or everyone that is interested to join us! PTHE TO The PTO (Pay the trailer off) fund raiser will be held at all of our launches in 2011. Through April we have $983.85 in the fund. The objective of the fund raiser is to pay off the trailer loan by the end of the year. We will be accepting donations at each launch. All donations will be recorded so that each donor will get a donation letter for tax purposes at the end of the year. This fund raiser will replace the Willow Run Fund we held in prior years. In addition to taking donations at the registration table we will have canisters in the trailer and in the mule. Please consider making a donation at each launch. We will have a link at http://www.sfsmindustries.com/thermometer.htm that will track our progress. The total amount we owe on the trailer is $3850. We will be making our normal monthly payments on the trailer which will be included in the tracking. Let s start 2012 with no trailer debt! -Scott A donate button has been added to the JMRC web site. This button provides an easy way to make a donation to the Pay the Trailer Off fund. Just click the button and you can use either a credit card or a bank account to make a donation. The donation is handled by Pay Pal. Your account information is only seen by pay pal. Please consider contributing using this button.
