The Panthers had a great deal of success in the NAIA and Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference and hope to translate that into success at the next level. The Panthers have posted a record of 427-83 (.837) as a program over 15 years and won 11 straight WHAC regular season championships. They also won nine WHAC Tournament titles and appeared in the NAIA Tournament for the last 13 seasons. Head of the Program With the new adventure of joining the GLIAC and NCAA DII also brings a new head coach in Rick Albro. The veteran coach has coached at the NCAA Division I, II and NAIA levels with both men's and women's programs during his career. He recently was an assistant coach at Western Michigan University starting in October 2015. He was also on the sidelines for the University of Detroit-Mercy during the 2014-15 season. Albro also was an assistant coach at Michigan State University under Suzy Merchant (2007-10) and a men's assistant at Cleveland State University (2003-06). Panthers vs. Timberwolves/Cardinals The Panthers have played Northwood University on one occasion dating back to November 23, 2003. DU took a 74-55 loss in Midland that day. Davenport owns a 2-1 record against Saginaw Valley State winning the last two meetings. DU won by forfeit after SVSU used an ineligible player on November 15, 2005. The Panthers also claimed a 79-69 win on the road back on January 17, 2005. 20-20 Vision Senior Emily Severn broke out of a scoring slump with back-to-back 20-point scoring games this past week against Lake Superior State and Ferris State. It was the first time in her career to achieve the feat. She now has five 20-point games in her career. Here is a list of those games: 1/6/18 Ferris State 8-13 FG, 6-8 3FG, 1-1 FT 23 pts 1/4/18 at LSSU 8-15 FG, 2-6 3FG, 2-3 FT 20 pts 11/17/17 vs Westminster 7-10 FG, 3-5 3FG, 3-4 FT 20 pts 2/27/17 Siena Heights 7-11 FG, 4-6 3FG, 2-2 FT 20 pts 1/4/17 at Madonna 6-12 FG, 4-9 3FG, 6-6 FT 22 pts A Quick Look at Northwood The Timberwolves are currently fourth place overall in the GLIAC standings with an overall record of 9-4 and a 5-2 mark in the conference. Head Coach Jeff Curtis in his 14th year at the helm has built a winning program. He entered this season with 182 wins which was 96 more than any other coach in NU women's basketball history. Curtis has led the Timberwolves to the GLIAC Tournament eight times in the last 10 years. Northwood has two separate four-game winning streaks this season and their second one was snapped on January 4 at home against GVSU (73-55). The Timberwolves responded with a season-high 91 points in a 91-66 win at Purdue Northwest last Saturday. NU scored 30 points in the first quarter to build a 30-15 lead and finished strong with 25 points in the fourth quarter. Lindsay Orwat led the team with 24 points going 8-of-12 from the floor including 4-of-6 behind the arc. She also led the team with seven boards. Taylor Craymer added 14 points on 5-of-9 shooting including 4-of-8 behind the arc. NU shot 14-of-32 as a team from the arc (43.8). A Quick Look at Saginaw Valley State The Cardinals have turned things around after starting 0-8 this season by winning three of their last five. The team is 3-11 overall and 3-4 in the GLIAC under head coach Jamie Pewinski in her seventh campaign for the Cardinals. SVSU claimed the program's second straight GLIAC North Division championship in 2016-17 and made an appearance in the NCAA Division II Round of 32. This season, the Cardinals are averaging 57.6 points per game while shooting 35.9 percent from the floor. Saginaw Valley State is fresh off a 70-48 loss at Grand Valley State last Saturday. The Cardinals shot 39.6 percent from the floor including 3-of-10 behind the arc and 7-of-11 at the charity stripe. The game turned in the second quarter as SVSU was outscored 17-6 as the Lakers led 37-23 at halftime. Hannah Settingsgaard led the team with 14 points. Abby Duffy added 10 points, four rebounds and two assists.
