Forward Anthony Hill garnered Horizon League Player of the Week honors after averaging 20.5 ppg and shooting 61 percent from the field, a performance that included a 20-point showing against UIC on Saturday. LAST TIME WE MET: February 27: Milwaukee 78, UIC 74 (UIC Pavilion) UIC fought back to get within two late after a slow start led to a 16-point second-half deficit, but the Flames rally ran out of time in a 78-74 loss to Milwaukee at the UIC Pavilion on Saturday. Robo Kreps and Jeremy Buttell scored 16 apiece in the regular-season finale for the Flames. Milwaukee s Anthony Hill led all scorers with 20 points, while teammate James Eayrs scored 19. The Panthers jumped out to an 8-0 lead and would go up by as many as 15 before halftime thanks to their inside-outside game. Milwaukee sank six three-pointers in the first half, and the frontcourt duo of Hill and Eayrs combined for 22 opening-period points. Milwaukee led by 16 on two occasions in the second period, but the Flames chipped away behind Buttell. The senior forward scored 13 points, hitting a pair of treys and scoring a trio of points on an old-fashioned three-point play, in just over seven minutes to bring the deficit down to seven with under eight minutes remaining.milwaukee extended the lead to double-digits again when UIC made its final charge in the game s final five minutes. Three free throws by Spencer Stewart cut the Panthers lead down to eight, and Kreps nailed a three with 3:30 on the clock to get the Flames within five. A Kreps free throw and a layup by Zavion Neely (15 points) made the score 69-67 in favor of Milwaukee with 1:44 left. Ricky Franklin lofted in a layup, and shortly afterwards Franklin s freethrow miss on a one-and-one was rebounded by Eayrs and put back in for a six-point Panther advantage. The Flames were down by five with 19 seconds remaining when Kreps hit a quick three four seconds later to make the score 76-74. Neely fouled Lonnie Boga to put the freshman at the charity stripe for a pair, and Boga made both with six seconds left to make it to a two-possession game. Kreps missed two free throws with only three seconds left, ending the game. HOW THE FLAMES FARE AGAINST MILWAUKEE: - Senior guard Spencer Stewart will play in his eighth encounter against Milwaukee, making him the most experienced Flames player against the Panthers. Through seven games against UWM, Stewart is averaging 5.0 ppg, 3.0 rpg and 3.4 apg. - Senior forward Jeremy Buttell is averaging 6.2 ppg and 8.3 rpg in six career games against Milwaukee. - Junior guard Robo Kreps is averaging 11.2 ppg, 2.3 rpg and shooting 39.7 percent (25-for-63) from the field in six career contests against the Panthers, making him UIC s highest active scorer against Milwaukee. - Senior guard Kris Harris averages 7.0 ppg in four career games against Milwaukee. - UIC head coach Jimmy Collins is 15-17 all-time against Milwaukee. - The Flames have faced Milwaukee four times in the Horizon League Championship, going 3-1 against the Panthers. - UIC last faced Milwaukee in the postseason in 2006-07, winning a first round contest at the UIC Pavilion on February 27, 2007 by a score of 83-77. - The last time the Flames and the Panthers faced off in a Horizon League Championship contest at U.S. Cellular Arena was March 9, 2004, when UIC defeated Milwaukee, 65-62, in the league tournament title game. - UIC will seek to snap a four-game losing streak to Milwaukee. ROBO RAISES HIS SIGHTS IN THE POSTSEASON: Robo Kreps averages 11.0 ppg in Horizon League first round games and 13.4 ppg in five career Horizon League Championship contests. Kreps shoots 53.7 percent (22-for-41) from the field and 50.0 percent (10-for-20) from downtown in Horizon League Championship games. HOME AND AWAY NIGHT AND DAY: The Flames appear to be a very different team defensively at home than on the road this year. UIC is allowing just 64.6 ppg in 14 games at the Pavilion; on the road the Flames are giving up 75.5 ppg in 15 away contests. www.uicflames.com

2009-10 UIC FLAMES MEN S BASKETBALL GAME NOTES USE UIC: Please use UIC in all references. Illinois-Chicago and all other references are incorrect and unacceptable. UIC is the correct and only name that should be used at all times. Thank you for your cooperation. SECONDS TASTE BETTER LATELY: The Flames have had strong second-half scoring performances in the last three games. UIC overcame 14-point second-half deficits in two games, an 82-80 win over Evansville on Feb. 20 and a 78-71 victory over Green Bay on Feb. 25, and nearly overcame a 16-point second-half lead by Milwaukee to come within two in the final minutes on Feb. 27. UIC averaged 49.0 ppg per second half, shooting a combined 49-for-89 (55.1 percent) from the field and 16-for-29 (55.2 percent) from downtown in the final periods of those last three games. Robo Kreps keyed the Flames last two second-half comebacks by averaging 15.3 ppg after intermission of those games. How did the Flames fare in the first periods of the last three games? UIC averaged just 39.0 ppg in that span and shot 40.7 percent (33-for-81) from the floor and 31.6 percent (6-for-19) in the opening 20 minutes of the last trio of games. Including first and second periods, UIC is averaging 78.0 ppg in the last three games. ROBO IS GRAND: Junior guard Robo Kreps became the 20th player in school history to reach the 1,000 career point milestone when he hit a pair of free throws with 47 seconds left in the first half of the Flames game at Loyola on Feb. 13. Kreps now ranks 16th in school history with 1,085 career points. BUTTELL BALLIN : Senior forward Jeremy Buttell has picked up his production in the late stages of his final collegiate campaign. In the last 15 games Buttell is averaging a team-high 15.5 ppg and 8.7 rpg, shooting 50.3 percent (87-for-173) from the field and 42.5 percent (31-for-73) from downtown. He has recorded five double-doubles in that span, including a 16-point, 14-rebound effort against Green Bay this past Thursday. Buttell started the season averaging 8.4 ppg and 6.4 rpg in the 14 games prior to his recent 15-game upswing in production. ROBO ROCKS AT THE FREE THROW LINE: Robo Kreps has had a fine season shooting from the charity stripe, making his free throws at a rate of 85.1 percent (114-for-134) that ranks second in the Horizon League and 44th in the nation. He had a streak of 32 consecutive free throws made between Dec. 29 and Jan. 15. ZAVION ZIG-ZAGGING HIS WAY TO THE BASKET: Sophomore guard Zavion Neely played sparingly as a true freshman last season, but the Chicago native is making the most of his new role as a starter in the Flames backcourt. Neely is second on the team in scoring with 12.2 ppg, with a career-high 24-point effort against SIU on Nov. 28. He has scored in double figures in 21 of UIC s 29 contests after scoring just 14 points all year as a true freshman in 2008-09. EXCHANGING THE D FOR SOME O : UIC s offense has started to escalate, averaging 71.6 ppg and shooting 42.8 percent (218-for-509) from the field in the last nine games after averaging just 58.2 ppg and shooting 37 percent (412-for-1115) from the floor in UIC s first 20 games. But the increased offense has come at a cost on the other end of the court. UIC had allowed 66.2 ppg and allowed foes to shoot just 41.8 percent from the floor in its first 18 games, but in the last 11 games opponents are averaging 76.9 ppg and shooting 47.8 percent (288-for-603) from the field. KREPS THE KEY TO VICTORY: When breaking down UIC s statistics in victories versus defeats, it is easy to see the impact Robo Kreps has on the Flames success. In eight wins Kreps is averaging 22.9 ppg and shooting 44.6 percent (54-for-121); in 21 losses Kreps is putting up 12.0 ppg and shooting just 31.0 percent (80-for-258). Six of his seven games with 20 or more points this season have been posted in UIC wins. STEWIE HELPING OUT: Senior point guard Spencer Stewart has helped the Flames offense tremendously. UIC mustered a total of 41 assists (8.2 apg) in the first five games of the season without Stewart, but since his return the Flames have posted 265 assists in 24 games (11.04 apg). Stewart, the Horizon League s active career assists leader (415 total assists, good for fourth all-time in school history), is averaging a league-leading 4.9 apg and has accounted for 44.2 percent of UIC s assists since his return. www.uicflames.com UIC S RECORD WHEN...
