Match Notes RECAPPING UConn dropped a pair of American contests on the road last weekend, falling at Temple in straight sets before a five-set setback at Memphis. In the Temple game, the Huskies were led by 10 kills from Imanuella Anagu, while Erika Thomas added nine with a match-high eight total blocks. Marissa Prinzbach secured a double-double in the game by dishing out 28 assists and scooping 11 digs. Against Memphis, Madeline Kuppe led the UConn attack with a career-high 16 kills, while Thomas also added 10. The Huskies battled back from a 2-0 deficit in the match, forcing a fifth set before ultimately succumbing to the Tigers. Prinzbach finished just shy of another double-double in the game, posting 42 assists and nine digs. Brianna Datti and Sage Esposito both had strong games defensively, with Datti scooping 20 digs while Esposito grabbed 16. The Huskies bounced back on Friday night, charging back from a 2-0 deficit for a five-set victory over Cincinnati at Gampel Pavilion. Karson Ratliff led UConn with 14 kills, while Anagu and Kuppe each added 10. Thomas also chipped in nine kills on.389 hitting, leading all players with 12 total blocks. (HONOR) ROLL CALL With Ratliff s weekly honor roll nod last week, UConn has now had four different players earn a spot on the conference award list. Jade Strawberry was the first to get a nod on Sept. 2, before Devon Maugle received the honor on Sept. 16. The next week, Thomas earned a spot on the list (9/23) before Ratliff got the call on Oct. 14. UConn is one of three teams, along with UCF and Temple, to place four different players on the Honor Roll this year. ACES AND BLOCKS, OH MY As a team, UConn is third in The American in both service aces and total blocks. The Huskies have served up 12 aces this season, good for 1.39/set. They have also turned aside 222.5 total blocks, via 40 solo blocks and a league-high 365 block assists. In total, that leaves them at 2.4 blocks /set. UConn is the only team in the league in the top-three of both of those categories. AMERICAN LEADERS Connecticut players have made their mark across the leaderboards in The American. Thomas is second in the league with 1.18 blocks/set, six spots ahead of Anagu who posts 1.00 a American Standings frame. Thomas is also seventh in the league with a.277 hitting percentage, while Prinzbach comes in at fourth conference-wide with 9.57 assists/set. Datti is seventh in the league with 4.27 digs/set. BOUNCING BACK After defeating Cincinnati on Friday, UConn improved to 8-4 on the year in games directly following a loss. The Huskies also moved to 4-6 in five-set matches, and picked up their fourth win of the year coming after losing the first set of a match. SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION LOUISVILLE After going just 4-6 in its first ten games as part of a highly challening early season non-conference slate, Louisville has won nine of 10 overall since, including a perfect 8-0 start to American Athletic Conference play. The Cardinals were the preseason favorite in The American after going 30-4 last year en route to a top-20 ranking and NCAA tournament appearance. This year s iteration is led by Maya McClendon, who leads the squad with 217 kills, good for 3.06/set. Emily Juhl adds 2.80/s, while Brooke Mattingly and Randi Ewing are among the most efficient attackers in the league. Mattingly averages 2.51 k/s hitting at a.352 clip, while Ewing is second in the conference with a.384 attack percentage on her 133 kills. Caitlin Welch is third in the conference with 4.77 digs/set, and Katie George paces the offense with 8.89 assists per frame. As a team, UofL ranks first in The American with 13.6 kills/ set, and is second in the league in hitting percentage at.240 and assists at 12.7/set. A LOOK AHEAD After this weekend s home contests, UConn is back on the road for American contests at Houston and SMU. The Huskies and Cougars will square off on Friday, Nov. 1, before they battle the Mustangs on Sunday, Nov. 3. UConn will look to bounce back after being swept by the two Texas squads earlier this season in Storrs.
