Volume 2: Brown to Black Belt (Youth) Crane Stance: Many martial arts, including kenpo, use the familiar postures of animals to describe stances, strikes, and kicks. The crane is a large bird noted for its ability to balance on one leg. In Unfurling Crane, the movements resemble a crane unfurling its wings into a one legged stance. Targets: take note of the striking patterns and targets utilized in the technique. Targets move from low to high, right to left, and inside to outside. Kenpo techniques are designed this way to draw the opponent s attention to one place, thereby opening up a target in another. 11
