NEW MEXICO COUNCIL OF CAR CLUBS FOUNDED IN 1977 TO REPRESENT THE AUTO HOBBY IN NEW MEXICO NEWSLETTER FOR MAY/JUNE, 2014 NEXT MEETING TO BE AT OLD CAR GARAGE WEDNESDAY, JUNE 25, 2014, 7:30pm MEETING AGENDA: Registering NMCCC Name & Logo; Web Site; Car Show Wrapup; Collector Car Appreciation Day; All Clubs Picnic * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * ATTENTION PLEASE The May meeting was held on May 14, and there will not be another meeting in May. The next regular meeting will be June 25. ********* The Car Council is a current member of SEMA. Any club may join free. It keeps members updated about proposed legislation that affects the car hobby nationwide. It is recommended that your club sign up; do it at www.semasan.com/san/join.aspx. It's free. In 2013, E15 (15% ethanol) gas was mandated. There was a bill in both houses of Congress to modify its implementation. That was in April of 2013. Does ayone out there know the status of E15 gas at the current time? I have been unable to find any action taken since then. The E-15 will work in many new cars, but will harm many older vehicles. Ethanol-Free Gas: There are 23 stations in New Mexico that sell ethanol-free gas, and over 7,000 stations nation-wide. To find a list, go to www.pure-gas.org and click on the desired state. This is a good resource for older cars that don't like the gasohol too well. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * New Mexico Council of Car Clubs Car Show Goody Bag Stuffing and Meeting May 14, 2014 The New Mexico Car Council held a special meeting in May to stuff goody bags for the upcoming car show. Present to help were: Bill Lemen LCOC; Robert Gold Corvair Club; Mike Peckumn Christian Rodders; Mark Terkeltaub and Chris Padilla LOE GTO's; Jeff & Lauri Rector NM 4Wheelers; Paul McLaughlin Mustang Owners; Perry Key NM Artists Assn; Raymond & Teresa Cotinola, Mike Maguire, Dennis & Julie Seibert Rickshaws; Ron & Su Rymarz, and Jim, Joyce & Will Clements Old Car Club; Al Smith Valley View CC; John Doran RG Mustangs; Chuck Logan Cougar Club; Bob Agnew Classic Car Club. With 400 bags to stuff we worked with great dispatch in a merry-go-round of stuffing. Needless to say there were some dizzy folks after this exercise. Thank you to all who donated their time and efforts to stuff the goody bags. Also a special thanks to the vendors who supplied coupons and materials to fill them, and thank you to Bob Agnew for the venue. After stuffing the goody bags, we held a brief meeting to go over car show assignments and some new business. Car show chairwoman, Joyce Clements, had recently given an interview on 101.7 to discuss the upcoming car show. Yours truly appeared the next morning on KASA 2 to be interviewed concerning the event. Also under the new business category, due to health issues, our treasurer Louie Paul has decided to step down. Ron Rymarz will fill the position of treasurer, and Joyce Clements and Lauri Rector will stay on as signatories on the account. Thank you Ron for stepping in. JD also discussed progress with the website as well as with our ongoing efforts to use the Zia symbol in our logo. It appears that there is a wrinkle in obtaining authorization to use the symbol. Paul McLaughlin has agreed to chair the committee to discuss a new symbol for the Car Council. Obviously, with the bulk of the meeting stuffing bags, this motion was tabled. There will be no further meeting of the Council in May. The next meeting will be June 25. Look forward to seeing you all in June. The car show was a great success take care and happy motoring Yours truly, Sec. William Lemen

SUBMARINE NEEDS HELP For anyone interested in helping to restore part of a submarine, here is your chance. Frank Fernando is one of several volunteers working at the National Museum of Nuclear Science & History, 601 Eubank, Albuquerque, NM 87123 (505)245-2137), who is helping restore a portion of the SSN James K. Polk which was a United States Submarine first commissioned in 1965. The portion of the submarine that is being restored and will be on display at the museum is the sail that you see out of the water when the sub is partially submerged. The volunteers have been grinding old paint, preparing for the repainting process. What they would like help with is filling in low spots in the sail left by the old paint removal and grinding process. The low spots would be filled in with Bondo to make the final painting look much nicer. You can see photos of the submarine sail at this link: http://navsource.org/archives/08/pdf/0864528.pdf. If you would like to help restore a part of history, please contact Frank at (505)270-4179 or porsche7778@comcast.net EVENT LISTING If you need a flyer for any event, e-mail joyce@nmcarcouncil.net, and I will send the flyer to you if I have it; or look for events at: http://nmcarcouncil.org. If you have major events scheduled and want to post them on our website, please submit them using our online form. Go to http://nmcarcouncil.net/event-submission-form/.
