JACKSON STATE LADY TIGERS (1-4, 0-0 SOUTHWESTERN) Lady Tigers take on Marshall in first game of EKU Comfort Suites Classic OR MARSHALL THUNDERING HERD (3-2, 0-0 CONFERENCE USA) Herd enters the weekend off of a win vs. Southern on Sunday Blue Hose in the Bluegrass The Presbyterian College women s basketball team (4-3, 1-0 Big South) hits the road for the Eastern Kentucky Comfort Suites Classic in Richmond, Ky. The Blue Hose battle the host Lady Colonels on Friday night at 7 p.m. before taking on either Jackson State or Marshall on Saturday at 2 p.m. PC will look to build on a two-game winning streak after defeating Charleston Southern in the team s Big South Conference opener on Wednesday, 58-57. Series History No matter who PC plays on Saturday, both games will mark the first meeting between the Blue Hose, the Lady Colonels and PC s Saturday foe. The Blue Hose have faced only one opponent for the first time ever this season, an 84-45 loss at No. 3 Duke on November 17. Last Time Out PC gutted out a crucial win in the team s Big South opener on Wednesday, handling Charleston Southern by a 58-57 margin. Down by two with 1:36 left, Karlee Taylor drained a three to put PC back in front for the final time, 58-57. CSU had a chance with 5.6 seconds left on an inbounds pass, but smothering defense did not allow the visitors to get a shot off. The Lady Colonels began the year at 3-0 and took down Big South Conference school UNC Asheville by a 67-47 margin. Jade Barber leads the team with 13.0 points nad 11.2 rebounds per game. Scouting Saturday s Opponent Jackson State and Marshall will play prior to PC and Eastern Kentucky s Friday night contest. The Lady Tigers of Jackson State bring a 1-4 record into Friday following a 72-48 loss to Navy on Saturday while Marshall sports a 3-2 marker after a 57-47 win against Southern at Texas A&M on Sunday. Coming in Hot In the last five games, Karlee Taylor leads the Blue Hose in scoring by averaging 11.8 points per game while Shonda Burnside paces the squad on the boards with 6.2 rebounds per game. Also in the last five, Dria David s 4.6 assists and 2.6 steals per outing lead the team in those categories. Up Next PC takes a break for final exams before hosting Brevard in its annual Education Day game on Tuesday, December 11. Tip-off is slated for 11;30 a.m. Mariah s Millennium Mark Senior Mariah Pietrowski converted a layup early in the second half against NC Central on Saturday to give the center her 1,000th career point. Pietrowski becomes the first women s basketball Blue Hose in the Division I era to hit the millennium mark and the first since Rebecca Wessinger last accomplished the feat on November 23, 2005. She is currently the program s leading Division I scorer (1,000 points) and rebounder (499 boards). Starting Off Hot PC s 4-3 record marks the first time in program history the team was won four of its first seven since the 2005-06 campaign, one season before PC played its final Division II schedule. Shonda Strikes Twice Shonda Burnside turned in PC s first double-double since 2010-11 to lift the Blue Hose to a win over visiting Southern Wesleyan on November 19. Burnside finished the night with 12 points and 12 rebounds, becoming the first Blue Hose with a double-double since Sherece Smith delivered 16 points and 10 rebounds against Gardner-Webb on February 26, 2011. Karlee For Three Junior guard Karlee Taylor improved her standing in the program record books on Wednesday, hitting her 120th career three-pointer. She now needs 10 to catch Darah Huffman (1995-99) for sixth-most in program history. Taylor currently ranks third in the Big South in three-point field goal percentage (.408) and fourth in three-pointers made per game (2.9). Take, Take, Take Senior guard Dria David moved up in the program s all-time steals category on Wednesday, moving into sole possession of ninth place in program history with 184 career takeaways. She enters Saturday 11 shy of 195 to catch Leah McCullough (1986-90) and Kaye Watts (1991-95) for seventh-most in program history. A Fisher of Win Head coach Ronny Fisher s 36 wins move him into a tie wtih Jessica Vanco s (2004-08) 36 wins in fourth place in PC history. Next in his sights are the 73 wins attained by both Randy Randall and Byron Rucker that tie both men for second in program history.

First Time for Everything After several Blue Hose achieved career firsts against Georgia, more followed against Duke. Redshirt freshman Keyonna Allen went two-for-two from the floor, scoring her first career points. Freshmen Cassidy Glenn and Taryn Richard grabbed their first-ever rebounds, while Glenn also hit a three for her first points as a Blue Hose. Against Georgia, Kasey Hobbie sank her first career bucket with three-pointer to beat an expiring shot clock while freshman Katelyn Grisillo made her first career appearance, hitting a jumper and adding a steal and a rebound. Holding Those Tigers PC kicked off its season in style, winning its season opener at Clemson on Sunday, 49-46. Dria David scored a career-high 19 points and hit a buzzerbeating three-pointer to give the Blue Hose their first-ever win over an Atlantic Coast Conference opponent in its 12th try. PC never trailed in the game, fighting off six ties and forcing 17 turnovers en route to the historic win. Dria s Dramatic Day Senior guard Dria David enjoyed a career day on November 11 at Clemson, scoring the most points in a season opener (19) for the Blue Hose since the team played its first Division I schedule in 2007-08. Her 19 points also marked a career high and led both squads as she scored 13 points in the second half, including two of the game s three three-pointers. Burnside for the Block Senior forward Shonda Burnside enters Saturday in sole possession of seventh place in program history in blocked shots, checking in with 72. Burnside blocked a shot against Clemson to pass Rachel Sloan (1998-2001). The senior needs 12 to catch Tonya Kelley s mark of 84, set from 1994-1998. Steady As She Goes Sherece Smith and Mariah Pietrowski started all 29 games for the Blue Hose last season, the only two members of the team to do so. Pietrowski saw her 92-game starting streak come to an end on Wednesday, more than any member of the current squad. Smith s current 39-game starting streak ranks as the current longest streak of any current Blue Hose. The combined, one-site men s and women s basketball tournament format features all 23 teams and 21 games in six days, including the crowning of champions on Sunday, March 10. Blue Hose Ink Five to National Letters of Intent The Presbyterian College women s basketball team announced the signing of four players to National Letters of Intent as Aianna Kelly (Newport News, Va.), Kaycie Reffner (Altoona, Pa.) Brooke Rhodes (Roan Mountain, Tenn.), Kendra Talley (Norcross, Ga.) and Rebecca Walker (Snellville, Ga.) will join the Blue Hose for the 2013-14 season. This class obviously has big shoes to fill, trying to replace our six seniors who mean so much to our program, said Head Coach Ronny Fisher. The four players that signed today will go a long way towards meeting that goal and all four are outstanding players, great people and tremendous students. They will make a major impact on the court, in the community and in the classroom. Kelly, a 5 9 guard, will arrive at PC after a strong career at Woodside High School in Newport News, Va. Kelly helped the Wolverines to a 29-2 overall record and a 20-0 league marker as well as a trip to the Virginia state semifinals. The future Blue Hose poured in 10.4 points a game last season, including a career-high 20-point effort as a junior in the Eastern Region quarterfinals. Aianna is one of the fastest players we have recruited at PC, said Fisher. She plays for legendary Coach Mike Tallon at one of the top high school programs in Virginia, Woodside High School. She is a tremendous defender and is a natural leader who makes everyone around her better. She can really score in transition and will certainly help us play at a higher speed. I look forward to watching her develop into one of the top guards in our league. Reffner, a 5 6 guard, will bring an impressive scoring touch and a defensive mentality to the Blue Hose after four years at Altoona Area High School in Altoona, Pa. As a junior, Reffner averaged 10 points per game to go along with 3.4 assists and 3.2 rebounds per game as she earned District 6 Class AAAA Tournament MVP honors while the Little Lions to a repeat championship. Kaycie is a tremendous competitor who can play either guard position, said Fisher. She plays with a lot of energy and is a tremendous three-point shooter with a very a quick release. She handles the ball well and has a great understanding of the game. Altoona Area High School coach Jill Helsel does a phenomenal job of getting her team to play tough and play together. Kaycie s leadership and abilities will certainly be a factor as we look to replace this year s senior class. Rhodes, a 6 1 post player, will don a Blue Hose uniform after a stellar career at Cloudland High School in Roan Mountain, Tenn. Rhodes earned All-Northeast Tennessee Player of the Year honors last season by averaging 16 points and 11 rebounds per game, leading the Highlanders to a 32-4 record and a Division I Class A Region championship. Rhodes also earned All-Region honors and scored 12 points while blocking two shots in the region championship game. In the district tournament, the regular season Player of the Year grabbed 17 rebounds and four blocks in the title game and was named the District 1A Tournament MVP. Brooke enjoyed a tremendous junior year while playing for Coach Matt Birchfield at Cloudland High School in Tennessee, said Fisher. She led her team to the state tournament by playing hard both on both ends of the floor. She has a tremendous skill set for her size with the ability to score down low and step out to the three as well. Brooke will flourish in our system and will make an immediate impact in our program. Talley, a 5 9 guard, helped Wesleyan School in Norcross, Ga., to three straight Georgia High School Athletic Association state championships and an unblemished 3-0 marker so far this season. On Wednesday, Talley helped the Lady Wolves to the Roswell Infiniti Classic title by scoring 11 points and four rebounds in the championship game. Through the first two games of this season, Talley averaged 6.5 points per game. Kendra has known nothing but winning at the high school level, Fisher said. She has been part of three state championships while playing for Coach Jan Azar at Wesleyan School. Kendra has the ability to impact the game on both ends of the court with her athleticism and is physically ready to play right away. She continues to improve daily and her high school program has prepared her for the college game. I look forward to seeing her develop during her career. Walker, a 6 3 forward, will bring an impressive resume to Laurens County after wrapping her high school career at Brookwood High School in Snellville, Ga. Walker averaged 15.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 4.2 blocks as a junior and collected a slew of honors, including spots on the Region 8-AAAAA All-Region First Team, Gwinnett TOC All-County First Team, Gwinnett Daily Post All-County Third Team and Wesleyan Turkey Tip-Off Classic All-Tournament Team. We are so excited to have Rebecca join our basketball family, said Fisher. Rebecca has been a big part of Coach Scott Terry s success at Brookwood. She has a great combination of size and athleticism that will help her make a smooth transition to the college game. She really runs the floor well, shoots the three and will be a difficult match-up for opponents with her size and length. She values the defensive end as well, where she amassed 117 blocks and took 12 charges last season. 2012-2013 Presbyterian College Women s Basketball Game Notes Nov. 30-Dec. 1 at Eastern Kentucky vs. Jackson State/Marshall Ronny Fisher is in his fifth season as Presbyterian College s head women s basketball coach. He is the sixth person to take the reigns in the program s 35-year history. He leads the team in its first year as a fullfledged Division I member after five transition seasons. Fisher led the program to new heights in 2011-12. The Blue Hose finished the year with a 14-15 record and an 8-10 record in the Big South Conference, marking the most wins since 2005-06 and the most Big South wins ever in a single season. In addition to the team s 14 wins, the Blue Hose jumped 69 spots in the Ratings Percentage Index (RPI) from 2010-11 and led the Big South in scoring defense, averaging only 56.2 points allowed per contest. The Blue Hose also ranked second in rebounding defense (35.3 percent) and third in field goal percentage defense (38.1 percent). PC won six of its last nine games, including putting together the longest winning streak in its D-I history and its longest road winning streak. In 2010-2011, Fisher led the Blue Hose to program-best marks since joining Division I and the Big South Conference. The team s 9-20 overall tally and 5-11 record in league play marked the team s best campaign since 2005-2006. Fisher s guidance also helped Karlee Taylor earn a Big South Conference All-Freshman Team selection. The Blue Hose set a number of benchmarks in 2010-2011. PC held an opponent to less than 40 points for only the seventh time since 1990 when the Blue Hose broke a 48-game road losing streak with a 51-38 win over South Carolina State. PC s five Big South Conference wins also marked the highest win total since joining the Big South in 2008-2009. The Blue Hose played competitively against several non-conference foes including Virginia Tech, Ohio and Clemson. In 2009-10, Fisher s squad defied expectations by posting three Big South victories with triumphs over Coastal Carolina, UNC Asheville and Winthrop. The team improved upon its win total from the previous year and even took regular season Big South regular season Champion Gardner-Webb to overtime. He had five student-athletes selected to the BIg South Presidential honor roll including three starters. Mariah Pietrowski won the Big South Freshman of the Year award and the Blue Hose were given the league s Sportsmanship Award. Fisher guided the 2008-09 team to a victory over Big South Conference tournament runner-up Gardner-Webb, marking the first league win in Division I play. The team posted its first Division I home win against Colgate on Nov. 24, 2008, by a 62-50 score. The squad doubled its win total from the previous season while also posting a strong 2.95 GPA in the classroom. Fisher s 2008-09 team will go down in the school s record book as the first Blue Hose program to garner the Big South Sportsmanship Award. Fisher took the PC women s coaching position after working with PC s men s basketball program for 11 years. He was the associate head coach for the 2007-08 season under head men s coach Gregg Nibert, after serving as the assistant coach from 1990-1993 and 2000-2007. The men s team tallied 142 wins when Fisher rejoined the staff in 2000. With his assistance PC earned two trips to the NCAA Division II tournament (2003, 2006). The 2002-2003 squad registered a program-tying 27 wins and were runners-up for the Food Lion/SAC Tournament title. The Blue Hose earned a bid to the national tournament where they defeated Columbus State (71-59) and Shaw University (77-58) to advance to the Sweet Sixteen, the farthest the program had ever gone in the postseason. Fisher was with the team when it returned to the NCAA Division II tournament three years later. After going 25-10 and finishing second in the Food Lion/SAC Tournament, PC beat Armstrong Atlantic, 73-67, in the first round of the NCAA Division II tournament before losing to Ga. College & State University in the second round. The Fairview, N.C., native aided Nibert as the program began its transition to Division I in 2007. The team recorded its first win at the Division I level over Radford (62-60) on Dec. 1, 2007 in the friendly confines of the Templeton Center. The Blue Hose finished a perfect 5-0 on their home court. During Fisher s first term with the Blue Hose, he worked with the team as they advanced to the NAIA National Tournament in 1993. PC racked up a school-record 27-5 season and earned a win over Mars Hill (71-56) in the NAIA District 26 Playoffs en route to the national tournament. The team lost to Georgetown (Ky.), 92-79, but went down as the first team in school history to travel to the tournament. Fisher handled numerous responsibilities under Nibert, including acting as both the academic and recruiting coordinator. On the hardwood, he worked with all the players but played a special role coaching post players. He has been able to draw on those experiences as he continues the transition from assistant to head coach. Between stints at Presbyterian, Fisher held positions at North Greenville University and Conway H.S. He worked under Crusaders coach David Conrady for two seasons (1998-2000). The staff worked to build a solid program that upset NAIA s second-ranked Georgetown College in Fisher s final year at North Greenville. Fisher assumed the head coaching position of the boy s basketball team at Conway H.S. in Conway, S.C. in 1993. At 25 years of age, he was the youngest class 4-A high school head coach in the state. In his first year, he led a team that had won two games in 1992-93 to 17 wins and the Tigers first trip to the quarterfinals of the state tournament. He compiled a 47-52 record in four years at Conway. Fisher got his start in college basketball while serving as a student assistant coach under former Presbyterian Coach Butch Estes at Furman University. He earned a B.A. in physical education in 1990. He graduated from A.C. Reynolds H.S. in Fairview, N.C., where he was a multi-sport athlete who played baseball, basketball and golf. His father Bob and brother, Rob still reside in the area. Fisher is married to the former Julie Dickert, of Taylors, S.C. Julie is a former basketball player at Charleston Southern University who played for the Bucs from 1990-93. They reside in Clinton with their son, Harrison, daughter Sydney and son Jake. They are active members of Cornerstone Baptist Church. The Fisher File Hometown Fairview, N.C.
