volume 15,, issue 11 november,, 2015 OUR 25 th ANNIVERSARY YEAR!! Inside this issue: Points of Interest Scavenger Hunt Sunday, November 8th 1:00pm East Parking Lot / War Memorial Stadium The Points of Interest - Scavenger Hunt looks to be a fun and interesting way to spend a little Miata time the afternoon of Sunday, November 8. This will be a fun event to attend with lots of chances to win $$!! 3 Scavenger winners Grand Scavenger will win $50.00 Second place pays $25.00 And best poker hand (all natural) wins $25.00. Complete rules will be provided at the start/drivers meeting, but basically, how we will play the game is: JR and I have made game packets for each Scavenger team (you can play alone, but would be best if you played as a team) - each team consisting of driver and passenger. You may use any electronic mapping / location device you wish to locate the Point of Interest, Siri, Garmin, city map, phone book. You may NOT contact other players to ask questions (you may contact JR at 501-416-7787 or Debbie at 501-416-3850 for points of clarification). Your Points of Interest Packet will have 12 Scavenger clue envelopes; each envelope will be numbered from one to twelve and will be opened in that order. You will complete or finish each clue with odo reading and photo opp before opening the next envelope. When you begin your scavenger hunt, you will zero your odo and open the first envelope. You will leave the site headed to your first clue destination. Once you arrive at the clue destination, you will: 1. Write the odo on the clue envelope, 2. 2. write down where you are, and 3. 3. take a digital photo of at least one of you with the clue destination also shown in the photo. Now you may open the next Point of Interest envelope and begin the process all over again. Here is the kicker with all the gadgets you might be allowed to use - YOU MAY ONLY TRAVEL ON SECONDARY STREETS. NO Interstates, NO freeway, NO major highway. If you feel you must cross the river, you may do so only on the Broadway bridge or the Main Street bridge. Following the Scavenger Hunt, we are meeting at 4:00 (ish) at BJ s Brewhouse, at McCain Mall (3951 McCain Blvd) for an early dinner, a cold brew and prize award presentation. JR and I will hang out at War Memorial Stadium until 3:45pm for those that want to join us to caravan over to the Brewhouse. If you can t make the hunt, join Debbie and JR for the Watch party (from 1:00 pm until 3:45pm or anytime between) at the east side of War Memorial, or join the celebration at about 4:00pm at the Brewhouse! 2 2 president s corner In September, we had our Membership Meeting at Sakura s in Sherwood. I know I really enjoyed a great meal and the staff provided very good service to us. Thanks to Sherry for making the arrangements!! And many thanks to those members that took the time to come out and join us. Priscilla and Patrick drove down from Heber Springs, and Dana and Larry brought us her new 2016 Grand Touring so we could all salivate in the parking lot prior to the meeting! In November, we ll be looking for nominations for our officers for the 2016 year. The General Membership Meeting in December will include the election of the 2016 Arkansas Miata Club board. Per the bylaws, the nomination process opens the 1 st of October and runs for a minimum of 30 days. Please send your board nominees to Earl Wilde at earl@earlwilde.com. The elected officers include: President, Vic-President, Secretary and Treasurer. The President then appoints the additional positions to serve on the Board: Membership, Tour/Tech Director, Newsletter Editor, Sponsorship Liaison, and Activities. With the nominations opening, please email your thoughts regarding a nomination for any of the positions listed. Nominate some, or yourself! One of the other discussions at our October Board Meeting dealt with the number of meetings and events, and participation at both. It seems like everyone is busier than ever these days, with work, family, and other engagements. Participation at events across the board have been down; not only have we seen it with our events, there were only 30 participants this year for Miatas @ Hallett. Discussion of the Board centered around keeping quality events and meetings, but having less of them. Instead of meetings, newsletters, and tours monthly we discussed moving all of our activities to a quarterly basis. The hope would be with less events, more people would be available for the ones we did have!! And we would also demand less of the officers, meeting and having them prepare reports and communications on a quarterly basis. We will discuss this, as well as have officer elections, at the December Membership / Board meeting which is scheduled for Monday, December 7 th. Meeting place will be the Whole Hog at 5309 Hwy 5 N (Stagecoach Road) in Bryant, AR. What is the best tire pressure? The owner's manual calls for 26psi of tire pressure. This is your starting point and is generally considered a good balance between ride comfort, handling, and road noise. However, it is not necessarily the "best" pressure, depending on what you are trying to do. A bit more pressure may be desired for higher performance situations where less sidewall flex might be needed. Too much or too little pressure will give uneven treadwear. Do not use the pressure indicated on your tire's sidewall. This is typically the maximum rated pressure for the tire - it has no relationship to the "best" pressure. Only you can determine the best tire pressure for you. Use the 26psi starting point, and use a gauge that gives you a consistent reading. (It doesn't necessarily have to be an accurate gauge, but it must be consistent. To aid consistency, always measure the pressure when the tires are cold.) Raise the pressure 1 or 2 psi at a time and re-evaluate the performance. If you like the change, keep it. If not, go back to the previous. If you can't tell the difference, then it doesn't matter. Don't let someone else tell you that you're wrong. There really is no wrong pressure. You just need to be able to feel the performance differences.

3 3 Saturday, November 7 th ARKLATEX Leaf Peek Road Tour The ARKLATEX Miata Club group from Sheveport is hopeful ya'll can join them again this year for the leaf gawking tour. Naturally Topless 44 MIATA TIP: Careful With Your Soft Top With the coming cold weather, don't forget to heed the warnings in the Miata Owner's Manual about your soft top: Don't raise or lower the top when the temperature drops below 41š F (5š C). The top material is a synthetic which loses some of its resiliency at low temperature and can be damaged if it is flexed. Also, be especially careful with your plastic rear window. The last person we knew who thought a quick way to clear frost off the rear window would be to give it a smack from the inside sorely regretted that decision when he got the bill for his new window. Be sure to keep your contact information and particularly your email address up-to-date; you don t want to miss anything! Submit your email address, snail mail address, new car info and any other contact information changes to Membership at membership@arkansasmiata.com.
