CONNECTICUT SKI COUNCIL skiclub.com October, 2014 president@skiclub.com PRESIDENT S MESSAGE COUNCIL MEETING: GREETINGS!!! The Connecticut Ski Council held its first meeting of the season and we are off to a good start. With the new season comes new opportunities and chances to try something new. Right now, the CSC is looking for a new State Race chairperson to replace Dennis Suto, who is retiring after 7 seasons as chairperson. There is also a need for someone to record race results for the Monday night race series. Please contact me at President@skiclub.com if you are interested. Before they ski and ride off into the sunset, I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to Dennis Suto, Pat Moore, and Bob DeVoe, our recent webmaster, who, after many, many years and countless hours of service to and in support of the Connecticut Ski Council, are stepping down from their positions. Bulk ticket orders are due at the October CSC meeting. Your club s bulk ticket coordinator has the information; if you have questions about how to order bulk tickets, please contact your club s coordinator, president or CSC rep. Each year our bulk ticket program gets bigger and better, and I would like to commend our bulk ticket coordinators, Nancy Nolan, Ginny Ludwig, Cheryl Parmalee and Mark Robitaille. Thank you, folks, for your hard work and dedication. This year s CSC Snowball, STEEP AND DEEP, is a month and a half away, rooms are being booked and hospitality suites are being reserved. This is one A Pre Ski party that you don t want to miss! Dance the night away, win great raffle prizes, and support the Connecticut Ski Council s only fundraiser! See the details in this newsletter, and see your club s CSC rep for tickets. Tony E CSC President 2014-2015 Oct. 14, 2014 NEWINGTON POLISH CLUB, 7:30 PM Following meeting: Nov. 11, 2014 All CSC Reps: All bulk ticket orders must be placed at the October meeting. Newsletter Deadline Deadline for the November newsletter is October 20. Email me at donald.ludwig@sbcglo bal.net Harry Mackenstein It is sad to report that Harry Mackenstein, a member of Hamden Ski Club for 25 years, and the club s Race chairman, passed away on September 17, 2014. He lost his battle with cancer. Harry was a past CSC Ambassador, the 2010 Gold medal winner of the National Bronze division of NASTAR, and a great supporter of the CSC. His Memorial service is Saturday, October 4, at 10:00, and takes place at his mom s church, Christ the Redeemer, 114 Roxbury Road, Southbury. Harry will be missed.

BULK TICKET INFO All orders for both Southern and Northern tier bulk tickets are due at the October meeting NO EXCEPTIONS! Please make payment with separate bank-certified checks for southern and northern tier orders. Checks must be payable to CT Ski Council. Please provide all contact information on your club s order form regarding your club s coordinator. If you have questions, please contact any of us. NOTE: STRATTON tickets are no longer live-to-lift. Vouchers must be redeemed at any ticket window. SUGARBUSH is offering a ticket quad-pack again, but can only be purchased in October and November. The cost has increased, and will now be just a few dollars cheaper than bulk ticket vouchers. Nancy Nolan and Ginny Ludwig, Southern tier, Cheryl Parmalee and Mark Robitaille, Northern tier Mountain News Fall is upon us, which means winter is near! I thought I d pass along news about some of the ski areas we visit. Magic is putting in new snowmaking, offering better access to some challenging terrain. Okemo is installing the new Sunburst Six, with heated seats and an overhead bubble, bringing you to the summit in total comfort. The lift replaces the Northstar, which was sent to Sunapee to increase lift capacity. Okemo added 100 energy-efficient snowmaking guns for better coverage. And it s hard to believe, but Sunday River is already making snow! Like I said, it can t be long!! Nancy Nolan OUTSTANDING MEMBER AWARD Nominations for the 2014 Outstanding Member Award must be given to me by the CSC October 14 meeting. I will need the club name, recipient s name, a short blurb as to why this person deserves the nomination, and your contact information. The award will be announced at the Snowball. Please email this to me at demnlct@aol.com or snail mail to Glenna Moalli, 43 Chapel Drive, New London, CT 06320. Thanks. Glenna Moalli Pequot Ski Club Greetings All! AMBASSADOR S ANGLE The Snowball is coming up soon it will take place on Saturday, November 15 at the Hartford Windsor Marriott. Rooms are available for $99 and reservations can be made by calling 860-688-7500. Be sure to note that you are part of the CSC Snowball so you can get the group rate. I still have one hospitality suite available; if you would like it, please contact me. First come, first served. Clubs who have reserved a room must pay the hotel directly. This year s theme is STEEP AND DEEP, and will once again feature the fabulous music of Frantic City! I m really looking forward to this event and I am hoping to see everyone there! As a reminder to all Club Ambassadors, Ambassador Day will be Sunday, October 19, so please save the date. This year it will be held at the home of Kristine Kaczmarczyk and hosted by Talcott Mountain Ski and Sport Club. All clubs soliciting gifts for the raffle must bring the items either to Ambassador Day or to the November CSC meeting. If you are bringing items to the November meeting, please email me with a list of the items no later than Friday, November 7 so they can be included in the Snowball program. Think snow!
