GEORGE BRENZOVICH HEAD COACH King's College, 1969 13th Season at UTEP John GNAUCK Assistant Coach UTEP, 1970 First Season at UTEP 2011 UTEP WOMEN'S RIFLE FACT BOOK 11 2011 UTEP WOMEN'S RIFLE FACT BOOK 10 George Brenzovich has spearheaded the UTEP rifle program for the past 12 seasons. Under his guidance, the Miners have continued to be one of the elite programs in the country, finishing among the nation s top-15 in the last 10 years. Under the tutelage of Brenzovich, the Miners have sent a representative (six individuals) to the NCAA rifle championships in six of the last seven seasons, including a team appearance in 2005. In 2010, Alix Moncada made her second appearance at the 2011 NCAA Men's and Women's Rifle Championships, competing in the individual air rifle competition. Moncada earned the NCAA's Elite 88 award, given to the highest GPA at the championship. Moncada, alongside Josie Burzynski, were selected to participate in the 2009 championships, marking the first time more than one person qualified since the 2005 campaign. UTEP ended the 2009 season ranked ninth nationally, the highest finish since a final eighth-place ranking in 2005. In total, Brenzovich has coached 11 individuals to the NCAA Championships and 13 NRA All- Americans at UTEP. Brenzovich led the advancement of the UTEP Rifle Range. In 2007, the Miners moved away from paper targets to an electronic scoring system, giving the sport more accurate results. Before coming to UTEP, Brenzovich enjoyed an 18-year stint at Kings College. He led King s College to its first appearance as a team at nationals in 1979, marking the first time that a Division III program has reached the championships. In all, Brenzovich s teams have made three national championship appearances and won 18 conference titles. Brenzovich has had shooters go on to compete nationally and internationally, including Denise Loring who won the world championship in air rifle in Scandinavia in 1979. Prior to coaching, Brenzovich shot at King s where he was the team champion for four straight years, while leading the college to a pair of conference titles. A native of Fredricktown, Pa., Brenzovich also teaches Kinesiology classes on basic rifle, pistol, shotgun, muzzle loader and marksmanship at UTEP, as well as a class on coaching principles and coaching certification under the American Sport Education Program. He is also an instructor for the concealed handgun license for the State of Texas Department of Public Safety. He is a member of NSSF USA Shooting and the National Rifle Association. A life-long member, he served as the 2005 president of the Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association. Brenzovich also served as the director of the Civilian Marksmanship Program for the State of Texas.
