PTO Presents to School Board The PTO president announced that the PTO had asked the school board to allow students to have more educational field trips if the PTO funded them. The board was set to make a decision at their next meeting. The PTO also purchased two Promethean boards for the school. Teachers from 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades presented information about their classes at this week s PTO meeting. Second grade teacher Mrs. Jaggers said that she is following the CScope curriculum. They are currently doing double-digit addition and regrouping. They are learning to read the thermometer with their science weather lesson. They are working with the new software, BrainChild. They will be doing a TPRI assessment starting next week. They will be having an AR party soon and will do that party here at school. Then they will take a trip for their second AR party at the end of the year and will use the money they earned on their booth at the Halloween Carnival for that trip. The second grade has a recycling project coming up, and those will be displayed for Open House. In response to the PTO s request that teachers share their needs with the organization, asking what items teachers normally purchase themselves that perhaps PTO could help to purchase. Mrs. Jaggers also announced that her class has a need for card stock in white and colors. She also said that her class as well as all classes could benefit from an outdoor thermometer and rain gauge. Third grade teacher Mrs. Massey said that her class is studying multiplication facts in math and rocks and minerals in science. They are working on test-taking strategies in reading. Mrs. Massey said that she would like to have composition books and bulletin board supplies, but she purchases those at the beginning of the year. She said that it would be very helpful if the PTO could help to make purchases at the beginning of the year when many school supplies are discounted. Fourth grade teacher Mrs. Green said that they are working on word choice in writing, division in math, space in science, STAAR strategies in reading. She believes one of the best strategies is to have the students read their passages two times. The students are doing research projects on Texas. Mrs. Green says she would like to change the theme of her room this year. She also expressed the need for materials at the beginning of the year. Fifth grade teacher is Mrs. Vance. They are working on three-digit multiplication in math, author s viewpoint in reading, and inherited and adaptive traits in science. She says they recently took their AR field trip to the bowling alley and park along with the third and fourth grade classes. The AR field trips are sponsored by PTO. PTO president Amy said that first and sixth grades will present at the next PTO meeting. She also announced that on February 1, raffle tickets will be distributed to each student for them to sell for a $5 chance to win an IPAD worth $949 that has been donated to PTO. The goal is for each student to sell 20 tickets each. Pizza Bingo is upcoming but a definite date has not been set for that as of yet. The BBQ sandwich fundraiser at Fix n Feed will be in April. Mrs. Ritland said that the business was pleased with the PTO s promotion of the event the last time the fundraiser was held there. She said that $1600 was raised in approximately two hours. Tonight Last Homecoming Game for Trio of Seniors This is the last homecoming for my trio of seniors, said Coach Moore. I am excited to see these three young men compete in their final homecoming game at Sulphur Bluff. This will be Blake Brown s 4th homecoming game as a starter and Collin Williams s 3rd homecoming game as a starter and Cade s 1st homecoming game. I am extremely proud of these boys for the hard work and effort that they have given me and their team for the past 5 years. I m sure these three boys would love to put on a show for anyone that came to support them and their team tonight for their final homecoming game. I was really proud of the team in that last quarter when they came out fighting for the game. It could have been real easy to give up in the 4th down 16 pts but they hung in there and fought hard to come back and make it a ball game. I am very proud of these boys. Page 7

Cody Vance Places First in Rotary Speech Contest Cody competed at the Sulphur Springs Rotary Club speaking competition where he won 1st place. He will be competing in the District Rotary Club Speaking Contest in Clarksville on January 26, 2013. He had to create a speech over the topic: "How use of Rotary's Four-Way Test will promote Peace through Service." The Four-Way Test of the Rotary Club is: The Four-Way Test of the things we think, say, or do: 1 Is it the TRUTH? 2 Is it FAIR to all concerned? 3 Will it build GOOD- WILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? 4 Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
