Back Page President s Report Please plan to attend the special Shareholder meeting on December 6 th at 6:00 pm, in the dining room. This is an extremely important meeting for the future of Mimosa Hills. As you prepare for the meeting, I ask that you consider what you would like for Mimosa Hills to look like in the future. December is an important month for Food & Beverage operations. Please contact Stella to schedule your Christmas party. Stella has planned the Christmas Buffet for December 23 rd. This event fills up fast so please make your reservations soon. Continued on page 2

From the President cont.: 2 Please join me in welcoming the new members approved at the November Board meeting: Eric Newton Non-Resident Stephen Bennett Non-Resident This brings our total membership to 439 with 363 being golf members. As 2018 comes to a close, I want to thank all our incredible staff. Without our Golf Course Maintenance staff led by Dan Winters and Brian Reddick we would not have our incredible golf course to enjoy. The Golf Shop led by Jimmy Piercy and Dan Dobson continue to provide great service, tournaments and events. Food & Beverage had a year of ups and downs; however, I feel with the leadership of Stella Reed we have drastically improved the dining experience. Without Cindy Stimson and Renee Hollaway, our accounting and membership services would struggle unbelievably. On behalf of the Board of Directors, we want to thank all our staff for everything they do. Happy Holidays to you and your family. I look forward to seeing everyone around the club. Jordan N. Greene 2018 Board President

On the Course: 10 And the rains continue. Through the month of November, the golf course has taken on 66.5 of rain. Our yearly average is around 50. We are very fortunate that this golf course sheds water so well. Many golf courses are restricted to cart paths considerably more than Mimosa Hills. Considering the wet conditions, we have collected most of the leaves off the course with little damage to the turf around cart paths. Inevitably, we are going to cause some damage due to our narrow cart paths. The tractor and sweeper need to get to our dumping location right of the 15 fairway. All in all, the golf course was kept fairly clean for play through the month of November. For the most part we should be done with the leaves by mid-december. The average temperature for November was 47.5 degrees, just one degree below Morganton s normal average. The warm season bermudagrass is almost completely brown from the 10 nights of below freezing temperatures we experienced last month. Typically, December will send the grass into total dormancy. The average temperature for our location is 39.5 degrees. There can be exceptions. December of 2015 had average temps of 52.3 degrees. That month had 12 days at or above 65 degrees and 4 days over 70 degrees. The bermudagrass fairways actually greened up and almost needed mowing. Although great for golf this is not good for the grass. When dormant grass wakes up, it expends stored carbohydrate reserves and then the likely upcoming freezing temperatures will stress the grass. More gradual transitions on each end of winter are best. Once the leaves are all picked up, we will move into cutting down dead and dying trees. We also have a few drainage issues to address. Weather permitting, we hope to begin tree removal on the left side of hole #3 by an outside contractor. This is the main targeted area for the Mimosa Hills Preservation Donors Club 2018 fund drive. Trees will be removed, and stumps ground down and cleaned up. When the sod is available next spring / summer we will till and grade the bare ground then lay the new grass in sod form. We plan to remove 2 of the 4 poplars at the left side of #7 approach and patch any bare areas with sod. We also plan to sod along the cart path at the landing area on hole #18. Many thanks to all the donors of the MHPDC, the results are a stunning improvement to a great golf course. Happy Holidays! Dan Winters, Superintendent

A Time of Giving: 11 Mimosa Hills Christmas Opportunities Provide Christmas Joy to a Child Thank you to all the members who participated in the Angel. Tree this year. We increased the number from 8 Angel s to 13 this year. All gifts need to be turned in by Monday, December 10 th. If you were not able to get an Angel, donations are welcome. Holiday Food Drive The Christmas Holiday food drive is still going on and there is plenty of room in the barrel. Please bring your canned or nonperishable food item by Wednesday, December 19 th. I know we can fill it up. Employee Christmas Fund Mimosa Hills is very fortunate to have a group of dedicated employees that every day try to help members enjoy the privilege of belonging to our great club. In the difficult times we are experiencing, there have been very few wage increases, yet these people stick with us and do what they can to help Mimosa Hills succeed. For Several years we have solicited voluntary contributions from the membership to show our gratitude to our employees. We hope you will be willing to participate this year and show your appreciation by providing some Christmas joy to these great people. Please either send or deliver your contribution to the club office or pro shop. If you include it with your monthly payment, please either remit cash or a separate check made out to cash. We will distribute these Christmas gifts on Friday, December 21, 2018 so, please have your contribution to us no later than Monday, December 17, 2018. Thank you, and have a Merry Christmas Mimosa Hills Board of Directors
