Just like in 2016, LOU won the first, with COL winning the latter. Former MLB outfielder Bubba Crosby hit a walk-off single for LOU in their win in 2007. It was a reversal of fortunes for the Bats, who beat COL 1-0 on Monday. The offense was quiet, with no extra-base hits for the second straight game. CF Bryson Smith went 3-for-4. LOU s pitching was excellent, giving up only 1 run that was unearned. SS Juan Perez s error in the fourth inning allowed COL s LF Joey Butler to score what would be the only run in the ballgame. Relievers Chad Rogers, Stephen Johnson, and Pedro Villarreal put together 5.2 innings of clean bullpen work after starter Keyvius Sampsongave up the lone run in 3.1 innings. It s the second time LOU s been shutout this year, with the first coming vs. TOL in a 2-0 loss on 4/14. HIT SINGLE: LOU collected nine hits last night, and all of them were singles. In LOU s last two games, all 12 of their hits are singles. In addition to Smith s three singles, C Ramon Cabrerahad two, while 3B Seth Mejias-Brean, SS Juan Perez, 1B Steve Selsky, and RF Kyle Waldrop accounted for one single each. The Bats worked three walks, two by DH Brandon Allen and one by LF Jesse Winker. IT S BEEN A WHILE: The last time the Bats played back-to-back nine inning 1-0 games was April 9-10, 2007. Just like in 2016, LOU won the first, with COL winning the latter. Former MLB outfielder Bubba Crosby hit a walk-off single for LOU in their win in 2007. STRANDED:In Tuesday s 1-0 loss, the Bats went 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position and left 12 men on base. LOU s lone hit with RISP came off the bat of Ramon Cabrera in the bottom of the fourth with one out. Selsky was held up at third base and the Bats never capitalized. Mejias-Brean struck out and Waldrop lined out to shortstop to end the inning. WELCOME BACK ROGERS:RHP Chad Rogers was transferred to Louisville on 4/19 from Rookie-A Billings. Rogersreturns for his third stint with LOU after starting 12 games for the Bats in 2013, and making 35 relief appearances in 2014. He made his 2016 debut on 4/19 vs. COL, tossing 1.2 innings of scoreless baseball, giving up a hit, walk, and striking out one. It was his first Triple-A appearance since August 29, 2014. SHORT OF ERROR: LOU s only run given up was an unearned run from a fielding error in the fourth inning. Columbus LF Joey Butler reached base on an error made by SS Juan Perez. Butler scored later in the inning on a fielder s choice by RF Jordan Smith, which proved to be the only run in a 1-0 COL victory. The Bats had not made an error in the previous two contests after starting off the season with errors in 7 straight games. LOU is 2-0 with no errors and 2-6 when they make at least one error. GRUDGE MATCH: After winning just five games against COL all of last season, the Bats have a chance to win their first two series out of the gate against the Clippers. LOU took two out of three in the inclement weather-shortened series in Columbus, and have a chance to do the same on Wednesday with the current series tied 1-1. KEY STARTER: RHP Keyvius Sampson made his 2016 Bats debut on 4/19, starting vs. COL. Sampson lasted 3.1 innings, allowing 1 run (0 earned), 1 hit, 3 BB, and a pair of strikeouts on 64 pitches (37 strikes). Sampson starts his second stint with LOU after appearing in 8 games in 2015, with 7 starts. He started off the 2016 season with the Reds, allowing 4 earned runs in 3 innings of work, before being optioned to Triple-A Louisville to make room for RHP Jon Moscot on 4/17. SECOND TIME AROUND: RHP Tim Adleman (0-0, 5.40) is slated to start the series finale vs. COL on 4/20. This will be Adleman s second-ever start at the Triple-A level, with his debut pitched on 4/15 vs. TOL. Adleman held his own in his first start with LOU, lasting 5 innings while giving up 3 runs on 3 hits and striking out one in a no-decision. A QUICK TURNAROUND, BUT THE HOMESTAND CONTINUES: The Bats and Clippers finish out their three game series Wednesday at 11:05 a.m. It is the first of three morning games scheduled at Louisville Slugger Field this season. The other two are Wednesday, May 4 against NOR (11:05 a.m.) and Wednesday, June 15 against SYR (11:45 a.m.). The Bats will face IND for the first time this season when the Indians come to town Thursday for a three game set, finishing out this 10 game homestand.
