On This Day in History 1827 New Orleans held its first Mardi Gras celebration. 1922 The U.S. Supreme Court upheld the 19 th Amendment that guaranteed women the right to vote. 1951 The 22nd Amendment to the U.S. Constitution was ratified, limiting U.S. presidents to two terms. 1974 People magazine was first issued. 1999 Colin Prescot and Andy Elson set a new hot air balloon endurance record when they had been aloft for 233 hours and 55 minutes.
Box Tops for Education The PE department is collecting Box Tops for Education. Please turn them in to your PE/Health teacher.
Ronald McDonald House Charities Grissom is once again collecting pop tabs to benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities! The pop tabs are recycled and sold for scrap metal. Last year, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana raised more than $40,000 from this program. A collection box will be in the Commons for your donations!
Intramural Soccer Indoor soccer intramurals are held Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 7:45-8:30. Permission slips are in the rack outside the Main Office.
Grissom Green Team The Grissom Green Team no longer needs plastic bottles! (Thank you for your donations!) We are still collecting bottle caps, paper towel holders and toilet paper holders. Keep up the great work, Grissom!!
Chorus Chorus meets Monday and Thursday after school in the Band room.
Student Council Student Council members will meet after school today in Room 222.
Board Game Club Board Game Club will meet in the Art Room after school today.
Black Out Dance The Grissom-Prairie View dance has been rescheduled for Friday, March 9 th from 6-8 pm. All students who previously purchased a ticket will be given a revised ticket on Tuesday, March 6 th. If you need a refund, it will be issued on Tuesday, March 6 th. Tickets will be sold on Wednesday, March 7 th and Thursday, March 8 th during lunches. Tickets will NOT be sold at the dance!

Graduation Picture Re-takes Graduation picture re-takes will be on Thursday, March 1 st. If you are having your picture re-taken, be sure to bring the photos you do not want and give them to the photographer.

Soccer Tryouts Tryouts for girls soccer will be held Monday, March 12 th and Wednesday, March 14 th at Millennium. Students trying out will be bussed to Millennium, but you must get your own transportation home. Tryout permission forms are in the rack outside the office and are due Friday, March 9th. NO LATE FORMS WILL BE ACCEPTED!
Declamation Declamation will meet Friday after school in Room 118.
Crayola ColorCycle Students and teachers will soon be collecting used markers (any brand!) to be converted into clean fuel. This fuel can be used to power vehicles, heat homes, cook meals and more! Boxes will be located in the Commons. The Crayola ColorCycle program can keep tons of plastic out of landfills each year! Remember, don t throw out that used marker ColorCycle it!

Student ID s When attending afterschool activities such as games and dances, you must have your Grissom ID with you! You will not be admitted without it!
Student Support Before and after school Student Support is offered from 8:00-8:35 am each morning, and from 3:10-4:05 pm Monday through Thursday. You must arrive at the beginning of the session and stay for the whole time!
Water Bottle Filling Station Challenge Last year Grissom Patriots saved over 6,600 plastic water bottles from ending up in landfills by using the water bottle filling stations throughout the building. Please remember to use these instead of plastic bottles. So far this year, we ve saved 6,750 bottles from landfills! Let s beat last year s total!
