San Jose won the series opener last night by a 6-2 score. Mac Marshall (0-1, 2.17 ERA) is slated to start on the mound for the Giants tonight. The Giants Despite last night s win, the Giants enter tonight s contest having lost eight out of their last 11 games. San Jose is attempting to win consecutive games for the first time since taking three straight from July 13-15. The Giants have won only one series in the second half (3-1 vs. Visalia, July 13-16). San Jose is 5-3 in their last eight home games following a 3-14 stretch at Municipal Stadium. Inside The Record The Giants are 13-23 in the second half 3-12 against South Division-leading Rancho Cucamonga and 10-11 against all other opponents. The Long Ball San Jose leads all North Division clubs and ranks third in the California League with 91 home runs this season. The Giants have hit 40 home runs in 36 second half games. San Jose s 31 homers in July are third in the California League (Rancho Cucamonga 38, Lancaster 36). Conversely, the Giants have allowed 35 home runs this month second-most in the league (Lancaster 37). League Leaderboard Several Giants hitters rank among the California League leaders. Jalen Miller is tied for fourth in the league in hits (112), fourth in doubles (29) and tied for eighth in runs scored (57). Gio Brusa is sixth in the league in home runs (16), seventh in slugging (.487) and tenth in RBI s (55). Wander Franco is third in doubles (30) and seventh in hits (107) while Johneshwy Fargas is first in stolen bases (35). Stolen Bases The Giants are 31-for-36 (86.1 percent success rate) in stolen bases in July. Individually, Bryce Johnson (11-for-11) and Johneshwy Fargas (11-for-13) have combined to steal 22 bases this month. Johnson has been successful in his last 18 stolen base attempts overall (last CS: May 4). Bullpen Woes Over the last 10 games, the Giants bullpen owns a 6.75 ERA (33 ER/44.0 IP). San Jose is tops in the league with 12 losses when leading after six innings and seven losses when ahead after seven innings. The Giants also have a league-leading 20 blown saves this season (12 since June 1). On The Mound Trevor Horn made his California League debut on the mound last night becoming the 39th pitcher to see action for the Giants this season. 17 different pitchers have made a start for San Jose this year.
