Welcome New Members Elliot VanDyke Men s Ryder Cup Results On October 20th and 21st the annual Men s Ryder Cup took place. The Ryder Cup is comprised of the top 24 point earners from the Men s tournaments we host throughout the year. The top two point earners serve as the captains each year. This year Clark Avery and Dave Oster were the two captains respectively. On Saturday the format is a Two- Man Better Ball and on Sunday players compete in Singles Matches. Teams earn points by winning the front nine, back nine, and overall, so 3 points can be earned from each match. After the Saturday morning Better Ball matches, Team Oster held a commanding 14 to 4 point lead over Team Avery. On Sunday, Team Avery tried to mount a comeback but the deficit was too much to overcome, leaving Team Oster victorious! Congratulations to Captain Dave Oster and his team for their great play. A big thank you to everyone who participated and showed support this year in the Men s tournaments, an event like this would not happen without your support! Superintendent News October 2018 Usually every November is when we begin to monitor the weather to decide when it is time to cover greens. Over the past 13 years, we have learned a lot about when to cover. At the beginning we used to cover each day it was going to be cold, but now that they have aged, I feel they can handle the weather much better than expected. We will always let them get frosted up first. This helps in the hardening off effect. We now look at daytime temperatures, besides only looking at nighttime temperatures. For example, if the daytime temperatures are sunny and hi of 55 or more and that night may get down to 26, we more than likely will not cover, but if the daytime temperature mid 40 s or lower and that night is 28, we will cover. What I am trying to judge is the length of frozen time on the grass. Once we get our first frost, I begin to leave messages on the Course Conditions Hotline, which is 770-448-2008 ext. 3333. On that message I will say if there is a delay and if we will be covering greens that afternoon. If the day comes for us to cover greens, we begin no later than 4:00 on #1 and #10. If the Golf Shop feels that not many people will be out to play due to the weather, they will allow us to cover earlier. The longer the grass is under the sun with the covers on it, the better chance of survival thru the winter becomes. If you have any questions, please ask.
