Dress Code Appropriate dress minimizes distractions in class, and allows the instructor to see the students bodies clearly to make appropriate corrections to their technique. If the instructor has difficulty seeing what is going on with a student s body, they are unable to help the student to dance safely and to their fullest potential. In addition, part of what we are trying to instill in our students is a sense of discipline and an understanding of the etiquette that comes along with proper training. Please be respectful by coming to class in proper attire. Uniformed classes will also have designated free choice days to wear the leotard and skirt of their choice or recital costumes if appropriate for class. Other variations of the dress code may also be implemented to rehearse for upcoming performances or other events. Free choice days or variations will be announced in class. Do not purchase your level s color uniform until placements have been finalized. For the first few weeks of classes, please come in the leotard and skirt of your choice. A note regarding shoes: It is absolutely imperative that students have the required shoes for each class. Improper, worn out, or poorly made shoes will result in injury, and hinder the progress of your child. Please do not purchase shoes that are too large for your child s foot in hopes that you will get more use out of them. Dance shoes that are too big cause injury. Also, please do not purchase pointe shoes until the instructor has specified that the student is ready. Pointe shoes also must be professionally fitted. This is very important to avoid injury from improper use of pointe shoes. A note on undergarments: Proper dance undergarments only. Underwear (panties) are not necessary underneath bodysuits or leotards as these garments are designed to accommodate for this. Underwear that shows in class can be distracting. For older ballet dancers, body liners or bras that the straps do not show under the leotard are preferable.
