Date October 5, 2016 President Bob Werner Vice President Bob Demola Secretary Neil Stokes Treasurer Brian Beer Editor JJ DeLucia editor@wjrc.org AMA Charter # 729 Web site - www.wjrc.org Boodys Mill Road GPS: 39.77425-75.204722 Minutes of the West Jersey R/C Club September 13, 2016 The September Business Meeting was call to order by President Bob Werner at 8:10 pm with 16 members in attendance. The minutes from the August meeting were read by the Secretary and accepted by all present. Vice-President Bob Demola reviewed the membership with no new members present and Bob reported the club is at 98 members. Treasurer Brian Beer went over the transactions for the checking account with an ending balance as of August 31 st. FMO Johnny Brink was not present for the field report; however, the field is in great shape and the grass is being cut. Paul Gross has not had any correspondence with the Rowan students and their project; he feels he probably will not hear from them this year. Old Business A very big THANK YOU goes out to Gregg & Joan Clement with the help from their daughter Debbie and son John for preparing and serving the food for the club picnic. The club also had a Fun Fly and some Gremlin combat competition at the picnic. The club will have a Swap Shop at the October 25 th Bull Meeting. Bruce Sheppard and Neil Stokes will try to have another Wednesday night at the field for any new pilots looking for training or help with their planes. Brian Beer has accepted the challenge of Paul s DVD and tape collection for future Bull Meetings. Brian has also donated a TV which he will set-up and keep at the hall when needed. New Business The Events Schedule is back on track with October 9 th being Fall Ducted Fan Sunday and November 6 th Fast Plane Sunday. Bob Werner said that he has been working with Steve Althouse on updating the club website and also trying to make it much easier to add pictures and give more people the ability to do so. President Bob Werner went over a quick update from AMA regarding an advisory committee/team that will work with the FAA to help identify challenges and prioritize improvements. It was mentioned that there should be one day a month for Gremlin combat, this will be discussed and dates will try to be determined. The next Bull Meeting is September 27 th and the next Regular Meeting is October 11 th. With no further business Brian Beer ran the 50/50 with Gregg Clement winning $9.00. Brian also ran a couple more raffles of donated items with the following people winning; Paul Gross OS61 motor, Herb Shallcross a charger & a Mag40SF motor and Neil Stokes a Mag Pro 25 motor. The meeting was adjourned at 8:51pm. Respectfully Submitted, Neil Stokes WJRC Secretary

West Jersey Wind 2 President s Corner October 2016 I missed last month s President s Corner because I was too busy around the time it was due, and things haven t changed much, but I thought that this one was too important to miss. I met a fellow named George Stanton on Sunday who has leased the woods off of the South end of the runway for the purposes of hunting. George and his fellow hunters will be occupying the woods at various times from now through February, and they have asked us not to fly over the woods where they are doing their thing. I d like to remind everyone that the boundaries of our field end at the tree line, and no one should be flying over the woods. There is plenty of room between the tree line and the end of the runway for a model aircraft of any size to maneuver on a landing approach, so please, let s all make a concerted effort to respect the boundaries, and not fly over the woods. George is the owner of a tree service, and he has said that he d like to cooperate with us by sharing any photographs of vandals messing with our property or tearing up the runway that his tree cameras capture, and in addition he has offered his climbing services to help retrieve a model that has inadvertently become stuck in a tree. Obviously it s in our best interest to keep George happy and be able to avail ourselves of his offered resources. Other items: There is a gentleman named Ira Weissman who will be addressing the club at our November meeting about the Camden Youth Aviation Program. I will be sending out more information about this shortly. Also a reminder that the October Bull meeting will also be our next swap shop meet, so get your stuff together to sell or swap and come on out and join the fun! Bob Werner WJRC President

West Jersey Wind 3 Sunday, 9/11/16: WJRC Picnic Our picnic was hosted by Gregg and Joan Clement along with their son John and daughter Debbie. Because the Clement's didn't have a truck they had to make 4 trips to the field from home with all the food and supplies. Their well-oiled family affair provided the club with a really great day! We couldn't have asked for a better set up of food along with the Clement's efficient serving method. Of course, after the festivities were over, there was the big clean-up, which required a bunch more work by them. Fortunately, there was a little added help provided by other alert, helpful club members. "Thank You" to all. ----------------------------------------------------------- The entire flying field's grounds were in fantastic shape thanks to the efforts of Johnny Brink, our Field Maintenance Officer. The dirt part of the runway was clear of weeds, exceptionally smooth and well packed. Several members made glowing comments regarding it, including "better than asphalt" from a few. "Thank You" to Johnny Brink Yep, shorts and shirtless... we had some brutally hot weather. Johnny put a LOT of work into the field to get it to look as it does. (photo from John Reid) "Thank You" to Gregg, Joan, Debbie and John Clement for all your hard work and for making our club picnic a thoroughly enjoyable day!! Debbie, John, Joan and Gregg Clement: Picnic shots: ----------------------------------------------------------- Picnic day brought a nice 85 degree high but with significant winds - which caused some to shy away from flying. However, the long awaited Fun Fly event and the first official Gremlin Combat event finally happened! The Fun Fly included 3 events: 1) a timed circuit of two flights around the field; 2) how many loops could be accomplished in 60 seconds; 3) the longest time in a glide pattern. The Gremlin Combat event had 4 flyers but, no one was able to chop off any of their opponents tail streamers. No matter, the event riveted onlookers. Gremlin flyers were so enthused, that when a Gremlin deadsticked, it was quickly refueled and sent back up! (From the interest shown by all, we may be seeing a lot more Gremlins in WJRC.)

West Jersey Wind 4 9/2/16: Rich Onorato with a couple of rare visitors to the field - his brothers Jim and Bob. (Jim is visiting from Connecticut, and Bob from Florida.) They're talking with Gregg Clement (back to camera); no doubt discussing Rich's beautifully done 88" Stearman, which he maidened on Aug 23. Bill Froeder with his Pilatus Turbo Porter: (photo from Sheldon Parker) Haven't seen much of Bob Leonetti this year at the field, but, here he is prepping a Stick for action. Below: A 55cc single-cylinder powers Rich's Stearman, but you'll do a double-take because of the great job he did on its scale model engine. 8/23/16: Holy Smoke! Here's two more guys we haven't seen much of this year: Rick Lawn (left) and Tony Cecola setting up his Mustang. Looks like their talking turkey with Dave Tracey. In the background is Gregg Clement and Paul Gross. (Somehow, I got Gregg with his back to the camera again. My apologies Gregg.) Rich's 88" Stearman:

West Jersey Wind 5 More from the Picnic: John Reid readying his electric Yak 54 for the Picnic's Fun Fly. Our colorful new windsock came complements of Gregg Clement. (As the photo shows, the wind sock was kept pretty busy during our windy Picnic.) Thank You to Gregg! Andre Askew looking to see if they're ready for him to start his Ultra Sport for the Fun Fly as Bruce Sheppard does the holding. Gremlin Combat was FAST and furious! (I was barely able to catch these two in the same frame.) Dave Tracey entered the Fun Fly with his 63" Phoenix Models Extra 330 with its OS.91 4-stroke. WJRC Scheduled Events: Sunday, Oct 5: Fall Ducted Fan Tuesday, Oct 11 @ 8pm: Business Meeting Tuesday, Oct 25 @ 7:30 pm: Bull Meeting & SWAP Meet Sunday, Nov 6: Fast Plane Happy Flying, JJ Gregg Clement's Videos from the WJRC Flying Field are on his YouTube channel "Gregg660": http://www.youtube.com/user/gregg660/videos ------------------------------------------------------------------- Sheldon Parker's Photos from the WJRC Flying Field are on his ShutterFly site: WJRC Photos https://wjrcphotos.shutterfly.com/
