The Silver Arrow Journal Official Newsletter of the Silver Arrow Bowmen Issue 01-2013 The Presidents Podium- Welcome to the new year! We had a great Christmas Party and I wish to thank everyone who came. It was held at Great Basin Brewery, we had 22 members who attended although we had 32 scheduled. It was all set up by our secretary Heather Campolieti, the food was good and at $12 a head it was a bargain, good job Heather! Meeting information We set the Calendar for meetings, and tentatively, Indoor 3-d shoots this winter, and indoor 3- D league on Wednesdays, the Bonanza, the Bowhunter league, the Scheels shoot, the Finale and the Turkey shoot. These will all be discussed and confirmed at the January meeting. We will also be looking at the schedule for a possible hunter/field round and/or marked yardage 3- D shoots in that meeting. The votes for the two directors seats were tallied, congratulations to Mike Bertero and Matt Jackson, who are our newest board members! Also, Cal Yarborough is our new range master! On Christmas eve I walked up the steep hill to my horse pen and fed them. On my way back down, I slipped on some ice and fell hard on my lower left leg, breaking it in two places. I had surgery on Monday, December 31st. It was outpatient surgery and I am back home writing this letter. They put in two screws, I will be on crutches for at least 6 weeks, after that I may get a walking boot, then will get the screws out in 12 weeks if all goes well. I will be on pain meds for at least a week after the surgery and have pretty limited mobility for the next month. This means: I will have more time to work on the web site, newsletters & other paperwork, but may not be thinking as clearly when I do I will need additional help getting the Indoor shoots (moving the 3-D animals) and the indoor 3-D league going, as I am totally unable to move 3-D targets. Just as a reminder, our next meeting is on January 7th, I hope to be able to be there, other wise John Carlsen will need to take the meeting. We can work out the details of what needs to be done at that time Thanks all and a Happy New Year 1

Hope to see you at the next meeting, Monday January 7 th, at 6:30 pm, @ The Scheels store, upstairs classroom next to the Archery Department. This will be one of the most important meetings of the year, so please try to make it! Key Three Items of Business Item #1 Indoor 3-D shoot schedule Item #2 Calendar of events, Christmas meeting Item #3 Club priorities and top 3 goals for 2013 We may also discuss: Next work party The Secretary Says Financial- Membership We are caught up with most of our major recurring bills. We still have the monthly fees for July and the turkey shoot to pay to the parks Department, which will be about $290.00. If you would like to know more specifics about the Club s finances, please come to the meeting, where we will discuss it in detail. We are now at 146 active members. We are currently in the process of auditing and updating our membership list, if you have had a change of address or other information, please let us know! We will be taking lapsed memberships (over 1 year) off of our newsletter mailing list Also, we really need to update the E-mail list, so please send your e-mail to our new e-mail address at : silverarrowbowmens@hotmail.com The Web www.silverarrowbowmen.net We are still building more information into the new web site Check it out! We will be updating it so that we have a link on the home page and gallery to our Facebook account, and you can post photos there directly! Facebook SilverarrowbowmenNV Member Lystra Pitts got us on Facebook, so we can post hunting photos etc there. Check it out, I have already see a lot of members liking it. Our Secretary, Heather Campolieti will do most of the management work on it, so if you have questions, call her. Thanks Lystra! 2

The Range Captain s Corner Out on the Range The Lemmon Valley Range remains open to members and the general public every day, via the lower parking lot and walk over gate. There are 28 bail butts available for shooting. Please leave the range clean! Remember, the gate code has changed, see membership for further information Work party We do not have a work party scheduled for January and will probably wait until February for the next one, weather permitting Jim Day had been working on the bale compressor, I have not heard from him in a while. he got the motor running, but the hydraulic system is still not working right and it needs a wheel bearing. I expect to hear from him now that most of the hunting seasons are over... Hunting shows Grand Slam Club/Ovis Show, Grand Sierra Resort, Reno January 9th-13th Safari Club international Convention, Reno January 23rd-26th Wild Sheep Show in Reno, January 31st - February 2nd (? NBHA Booth open?) Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation Camp/Show in Las Vegas Feb 28th-March 3rd (? NBHA Booth open?) Western Outdoor Expo (and Mule Deer Foundation) Feb. 21-24 2013 Salt Lake City Hunting information January, Make sure all of your big game report cards have been sent in! Most of the 2012/2013 seasons are over, with the exception of upland game, water foul and Mountain Lion. You still have another month to get out there and get after them I know it s early, but it s not too early to start planning for this fall s big game seasons. The Deadline for big game applications will be April 15 th this year. It s bow maintenance time once again Remember, this is the time of year to do your bow maintenance, especially if you are going to get new strings and cables. Get them on now so that by the time the 3-D shoots are in full swing you are ready! Also, if you are going to try any new trick stuff, this is the time to get it on your bow and try it out before you are in competition or hunting. Get those bugs worked out now so you are not scrambling later With Wasting Arrows open, you have no excuse for getting out there and getting tuned up early! 3

Please let me know about your hunts, good stories are what I am looking for, whether you took an animal or not. I will put them in the story of the month section Upcoming events This is a tentative schedule of events, most have not yet been confirmed with the clubs involved at this time and are based on last year s information: January 2013 NFAA South West Section Indoor mail in, hosted by SAB In Reno/Wasting Arrows indoor Range January 4,5,6 January Jack-a-Lope Jubalee indoor 3-D, Silver Arrow Bowmen, Reno January 13th(tentative ) NFAA South West Section Indoor mail in, hosted by WRB in Yerington, January 16, 18 & 19 NFAA South West Section Indoor mail in, hosted by Bristlecone archers, Ely January 18,19 & 20 NFAA South West Section Indoor mail in, hosted by LVA/Pacific Archery January 18,19,20(tentative) February NBHA Indoor mail in, hosted by SAB In Reno/Wasting Arrows indoor Range, Feb. 8th & 9th NBHA Indoor mail in, hosted by WRB in Yerington, Feb. 13th, 15th&16th Invitational Flint Bowmen Indoor Round tournament, hosted by WRB in Yerington, Feb 17th (775-463-4924 for details) Snow or Shine Shoot, Carson Valley Archers, Sunrise pass, February 17th(tentative ) February Freeze Out indoor 3-D Shoot, SAB In Reno/Wasting Arrows indoor Range, February 24 th (tentative ) March Cabin Fever Shoot, Strait Arrow Bowmen, Redding Ca.
