SOUTHERN UNITED HOCKEY ACADEMY STRIVING FOR EXCELLENCE.
INTRODUCTION Southern United Hockey Club s mission is to provide all of its members with the best possible opportunity to play and enjoy hockey at all levels, both on and off the field, and by virtue of this become the hockey club of first choice in the South Eastern and Bayside suburbs of Melbourne. Our hockey vision remains ambitious. We intend to be the premier hockey club in Victoria by successfully fielding and sustaining teams in the top grades of the HV competitions in which we participate. This objective will not be achieved by accident nor will they be thrust upon us by unforeseen change in our circumstances. We have to plan for and begin working towards their realisation. We will continue to provide additional skills training for all SUHC s young players through the McKenzie s Skills Clinics, Targeted Skill Sessions, Holiday Programs our goalie development program and our regular in season team training routine. In 2010 we established the Southern United Hockey Academy (SUHA) as the pinnacle to all of our development work. SUHA s objective is to identify and develop SUHC s future players who will ultimately help realise the club s vision. Through our development programs, junior coaches and in particular we have managed to help develop more Representative, State and Australian level Junior players than any other club in the State. Our development programs and focus on helping athletes reach their potential is unparalleled and will continue to grow and improve.
SUHA OVERVIEW SUHA Overview The Southern United Hockey Academy (SUHA) is a program for any hockey player aged between 8 and 18 that wants to develop and improve as a hockey player and an all round athlete. The program includes small group hockey sessions that will focus on improving identified skills, game awareness, tactics and athletic ability. It is a holistic program that will help give each participant the skills and knowledge to help them reach their full potential. All this will be achieved by using only the best quality coaches, a modern hockey coaching program, Guest speakers and regular feedback including video analysis. Each session will have a focus area, with coaches offering technique guidance, providing drills to practice the new skills and modified games to implement what you have learnt into game-like situations. Athletes will learn the fundamental skills of the game as well modern techniques and plenty of game sense and awareness.
