Resolution 2018-1 CENTENNIAL and DONOR MEDALS WHEREAS the National Sojourners is celebrating its 100 th Anniversary in 2018-2019; and WHEREAS this is a once-in-a-lifetime event for the Order and each of its members; and WHEREAS the Order and its leadership desires to encourage and reward individual support for Chapter and nationally sponsored Centennial Celebration Events throughout the nation; and WHEREAS support for National Sojourners may be provided in both actual individual participation and in contributions to our Charitable funds that support Americanism and Patriotism; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the National Sojourners hereby create two new medals for supporting National Sojourners the Centennial Event Participation medal, for physical support and the Centennial Donation Medal, for monetary support. The Centennial Even Participation Medal, is to incentivize and recognize individual performance for active participation in Nationwide and Area-wide events during the Centennial Year as detailed by the National President in the Centennial Tool Kit. The Centennial Donation Medal, is to incentivize and recognize individual Sojourners for contributions of $1,000 to a National Sojourners fund during the Centennial Year. These Medals (the Centennial Medal and Donor Medal with Centennial Bar) may only be earned during the Centennial Year from 25 June 2018 to 9 June 2019. The Donor Medal without the Centennial Bar may be earned at any time following the Centennial Year. WHEREAS the two new medals would bring the total number of National Sojourners medals to eight, and six could be worn by any individual; and WHEREAS the National Sojourners take pride in wearing their medals properly; NOW THEREFORE BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the precedence of National Sojourners Medals to be worn on a member s left breast is as follows: 1. Houghton Memorial Award Medal, second highest National Sojourners award. No devices are authorized. 2. National Sojourners Membership Medal. This medal is worn by all National Sojourners and may include a star to indicate MIP status, a bar to indicate
current or past office, a service bar for 25 or 50-year membership, and a pin to denote membership activity. A maximum of three devices are authorized. 3. The Past National President s Medal, for those who have served as National President, is worn in lieu of the National Sojourners Membership Medal. No devices are authorized. This medal may also be worn on a neck ribbon. 4. Van Deventer Medal, the highest award in Heroes of 76. This medal contains a Minuteman and numerals for the year of award. No other devices are authorized. 5. The Past National Commander s Medal, for those who have served as National commander, is worn in lieu of the Heroes Medal. No devices are authorized. The medal is not worn on a Heroes neck ribbon. 6. Heroes Medal. This medal is worn by all Heroes of 76. The only device authorized is the Past Commander s bar. 7. Donation Medal. This medal with the Centennial Bar is awarded for contributing $1,000 or more to any national Sojourners Fund during the Centennial Year (25 June 2018 to 9 June 2019). It may be awarded with the Centennial Bar at any time following the Centennial Year for a contribution of $1,000 or more to any National Sojourners Fund. Additional devices may also be affixed to the medal to recognize continuing contributions as follows: a bronze oak leaf cluster for additional $1,000 contributions, a silver oak leaf cluster for five $1,000 contributions, and a star device to recognize completion of a National Sojourner Codicil in the amount of $1,000 or more. 8. Centennial Event Participation Medal. This medal is awarded for active participation in Nationwide and Area-wide events during the Centennial Year consistent with criteria set forth by the National President in the Centennial Tool Kit. This Medal may only be earned during the Centennial Year from 25 June 2018 to 9 June 2019. These medals, up to six total, are to be worn in order of precedence from the wearer s right to left in one or two rows. NR 1.4 shall be changed as follows: 1. Add a Centennial Event Participation Medal as paragraph 2.g to read as follows: The Centennial Event Participation Medal consists of a blue ribbon with a gold strip inset from each side. Suspended from the ribbon is a medallion of gold bearing an image
of the raised part of the Sojourner seal with a blue circle border bearing the inscription 100 YEARS flanked by 1919 on the left side, 2019 on the right side, and PROUDLY SERVING THE CAUSE OF PATRIOTISM at the bottom. 2. Add a Donation Medal as paragraph 2.h to read as follows: The Donor Medal consists of a green ribbon with a thin white line in the middle and on each side flanked by a bold blue, gold, blue strip on each side. Suspended from the ribbon is a medallion of gold in the shape of four sections of a Maltese cross superimposed over a sunburst with a blue circle in the center bearing an image of the raised part of the Sojourner seal and surrounded by the phrase EXIMIA DONATORI. a. A gold bar device bearing the word CENTENNIAL shall be worn on the ribbon for a paid donation of $1,000 or more to any National Sojourners Fund during the period 23 July 2018 through 1 September 2019 or for a pledge of $1,000 or more during the same period and paid in full by 1 September 2023. b. A Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster device shall be worn on the Donation Medal for each additional donation of $1,000 paid in full beyond the initial Centennial Year contribution. A Silver Oak Leaf Cluster device may be substituted for five Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters. c. A Star device shall be worn on the Donation Medal for the completion of a National Sojourners Codicil in the amount of $1,000 or more. 3. Change paragraph 11.b to read, The elected National Line Officers Medal, elected National Heroes of 76 medal, Legion of Honor Medal, Past National President s Medal, Past National Commander s Medal and Donation Medal (with all devices) will be funded through the National Budget. 4. Add Paragraph 12 as follows: ORDER OF PRECEDENCE. These medals, up to six total are to be worn in order of precedence from the wearer s right to left in one or two rows.
