2016 George Woods Novice Rally Saturday, 5 th March 2016 Further Instructions 1. COMPETITION NUMBER See attached entry list. If you missed the ballot due to an incomplete entry form, you will be allocated a competition number on satisfactory completion of your entry. 2. SCHEDULE 2.1 Documentation and Scrutiny Documentation and Scrutiny is on Wednesday, 2 nd March 2016 (not 3 rd as mistyped in supp regs) from 18:00 to 20:30 at J C Autos, 578 Canterbury Rd, Vermont: ph. 03 9873 3022. Vehicles are to be presented in a Ready to run condition with exception of tyres. Vehicles will be checked for safety and eligibility as well as per the Supplementary Regulations, the NCR and the NRC. When both Documentation and Scrutiny have been completed satisfactorily, you will be given a signed scrutiny form that you must exchange for your Route Instructions at the start of the event. No scrutiny form, no route instructions, no start. 2.2 Event Start: The event start/finish is at the Powelltown Recreation Reserve, Yarra Junction/Noojee Rd, Powelltown (see attached map). Rally HQ is in Powelltown Sports Club pavilion. Book-in will open at 16.00. All competitors must report by 18.00hrs. Entries close at 18.00hrs. Route Instructions will be available from 17:15, at 1 minute intervals in running order. You will need to surrender your signed scrutiny/documentation form in exchange for your route instructions. Cars will start the event at 2 minute intervals in order as on Entry List. The first car will start at 20:00. Your actual start time may be a few minutes earlier than shown on the entry list if cars ahead of you have withdrawn. 2.3 Competitor Briefing There will be a compulsory competitors briefing held at 19.00 hrs. Both Crew Members must attend. 3. OFFICIAL MAPS Toorongo RS 1:50,000. You will need to supply your own copy of this map. Other maps will be supplied by the organisers. 4. OTHER ROAD USERS This event has road closure controls to avoid members of the public from driving on the roads used in competitive sections of the rally. Because of the navigational nature of some sections of the event, it is possible to encounter other competitors travelling in a different direction to you, please drive accordingly at all times. 5. RUNNING DETAILS The event will be run in 1 Division with Late Running Time being 90 minutes. PROCEDURE AT PASSAGE CONTROLS Crews must stop at all Passage Controls and present their road card to the control official for endorsement. Reduce speed at P board, stop your car beside control official, open your navigator s window, place your road card on your lap (under map light), allow control official time to mark you card and to step back from your car before you proceed.
7. CAUTION BOARDS AND SAFETY TRIANGLES All competitors must drive appropriately when caution boards or safety triangles are displayed. There may be caution boards on the road that are not called up in the route instructions. Wherever the word caution is used in an instruction or by use of boards, its degree shall be indicated as follows: (i) One Caution Board ( ) indicates a hazard where no significant reduction in speed is required but where difficulty might be encountered if crews were unaware of the hazard. (ii) Two Caution Boards ( ) indicate a situation where damage to a vehicle or crew could result from negotiating the hazard at speed. (iii) Three Caution Boards ( ) indicates a severe hazard which cannot be negotiated without a significant reduction in speed. 8. NO WHEEL SPIN RULE Drivers note, you will incur a 30 point penalty if you spin your wheels at or within 50 metres of a competitive start line. This is for the safety of the officials and to minimise road damage. It is also the quickest way to get mobile! 9. ODOMETER CHECK The official distance measuring device read 5.01km on Yarra Junction - Noojee Rd between the YJ10 sign in Three Bridges (North-West of the RJ with Coles Road) and the YJ15 sign in Powelltown (close to the RJ with Learmonth Creek Rd). The signs are on the North side of the main road and can be clearly seen travelling in either direction. Please take care when doing U-turns not over double or solid single white lines and avoid using residents driveways. 10. FUEL AVAILABILITY No fuel will be available at the start/finish area. You will have to refuel from your own supplies. The nearest 24 hour pump fuel is at Lilydale (40km from Powelltown). In the afternoon, there is fuel available at Launching Place (the Log Cabin Roadhouse). Service crews will have to travel 16Km to the service area. For crews without a service crew, we have arranged a trailer to transport fuel in properly constructed containers, labelled with your car number, to the service area. Your containers must be placed in the trailer before 20:30 to be transported to the service area on time. 11. AWARDS Awards will be as set out in Supplementary Regulations 18. 12. ACCOMMODATION Camping is permitted at the start/finish location. 13. CATERING Food and drinks will be available at HQ before, during and after the event. AMENDMENT TO SUPPLEMENTARY REGULATIONS Supplementary Regulation 6 is amended by the addition of the wording italicised below to the first and third paragraphs; this is to allow crews consisting of a Grade B and a Grade F competitor to participate. All entrants will be asked to acknowledge this change and any entrant who wishes to withdraw as a result of this change to the regulations may do so without penalty. 6 CREW ELIGIBILITY Entries are open to all Grade F, E, D and C crews; in keeping with the event philosophy of introducing new competitors to the sport, a crew consisting of a Grade B competitor partnered by a Grade F crew member is also eligible. Only Grade F (Rookie) & E (Novice) crews are eligible for the Rookies Ramble awards. In addition to Grade F & E crews, higher graded crews with ONLY ONE Grade D or C or B crew member are eligible for the George Woods Novice Rally outright awards.
