TROY HIGH SCHOOL WARRIOR WEEKLY October 20, 2017 It is the Homecoming Weekend! Today we held our Homecoming Assembly, and students look forward to the popular Athletic Team Dances. The teams work on their routines with our Cheerleaders and are great. This year because Halloween falls so close to our Homecoming, we are not having a Halloween rally. As a result, we also showed the annual ASB Halloween video which was a compilation of the theme for our Homecoming Dance, and Halloween. The video was very well done and it was filled with suspense and legitimate scares! Don t forget, tonight our Homecoming Football game vs. Fullerton High School will begin at 7:00pm! It promises to be a challenging game with one of our most difficult opponents in recent memory for a Homecoming Game! This is a big contest with potential playoff implications for our team! Let s make a huge showing at the game and support our team, cheer, band, and color guard! Go Warriors!
On Saturday, we will hold our Homecoming Dance at Troy High School. The dance begins at 7:30pm and will end promptly at 10:30pm. Please arrive on time and please be picked up on time! It will be a great evening for everyone in attendance and we expect a large crowd! Congratulations to our Boys Water Polo on defending their Freeway League Championship last evening! We will not know until tomorrow who we will face in the first CIF playoff game next Tuesday. Girls Tennis is in Freeway League Finals today, so we will soon know their opponents for the next round. They have been fantastic this season! Tuesday is Freeway League Finals for Cross-Country and it should be a great meet! Perhaps we will have some runners continue to the next level. We will have to wait and see! Girls Volleyball is also in the playoffs and we know who they are playing, as next Tuesday they are travelling to Redlands to play Citrus Valley High School! Our Girls Golf team continues to do well, and four players made the cut to continue playing on next Monday at the CIF Southern Section
Finals! Elyse Kim, Kaylee Sakoda, Isabel Sy, and Sherilyn Villanueva will all be representing Troy High School for another round! We have some exciting news to report for Troy student, Michael Kao! He has been announced as a 2017 Siemens Competition Semifinalist in the Math, Science, and Technology Competition! Michael is one of 491 students nationwide that are being recognized for a submitted project. In November, we will find out from this group who will advance to the regional competition, and then a possible chance to compete in the final, held in Washington D.C. in December! Students in this competition are vying for scholarships ranging from $1000 to $100,000! Congratulations Michael Kao! Next Tuesday on October 31 st (Halloween), Troy High School will be moving to a minimum day schedule. This unexpected school schedule change is in response to Cal State
Fullerton scheduling the controversial, Milo Yiannopoulos to speak in the Titan Student Union. Unfortunately, some prior speaking engagements at other locations with Mr. Yiannopoulos have resulted in significant protests and disruption, resulting in a decision by our Superintendent and Board of Trustees to change our school schedule on Halloween. Troy s school administration, superintendent, and Board of Trustees are acting with an abundance of caution in an effort to limit student and staff exposure to a potentially disruptive event at Cal State Fullerton that could impact our campus and safety. On Tuesday, October 31 st our school schedule is as follows: Zero period: 7:16 AM 7:57 AM Period 1: 8:02 AM 8:43 AM Period 2: 8:48 AM 9:29 AM Period 3: 9:34 AM 10:15 AM BREAK: 10:15 AM 10:25 AM Period 4: 10:30 AM 11:11 AM Period 5: 11:16 AM 11:57 AM Period 6: 12:02 PM 12:43 PM Our instructional school day will end at 12:43PM and no later than 3:00PM all activities and athletics will have finished and all students must have left campus and the area. If you celebrate Halloween, please be safe and enjoy the time with your family and friends! Have fun! Last weekend our Troy High School Band participated in the 11 th Annual Circle City Classic Field Tournament at Centennial High School in Corona. There were twenty-three bands in the competition, including La Habra HS, Diamond Bar HS, San Dimas HS, and La Puente HS.
It was a great competition with some very good bands, and I am very happy to report that the Troy Warrior Band took 1 st Place!!!!! They were very excited and I think this picture says it all! It is the weekend and it is finally starting to feel like fall! Sunny days and cool nights! I plan to spend the weekend finishing up some Halloween decorations for the Trick or Treaters, as well as watch some World Series games. Go Dodgers! I hope everyone is able to take some time, do something fun and get in some much needed rest and relaxation! I will see everyone back here on Monday. It is going to be a busy week! W. Mynster
