SINGAPORE FLOORBALL ASSOCIATION ANNUAL REPORT 2017/2018 FY 17/18 (1 Apr 2017 to 31 Mar 2018) Vision: To be the leading Floorball nation in Asia Pacific in terms of rankings, development and management and to make Singapore Floorball top in the region. NATIONAL TEAMS Men s Asia-Oceania Floorball Cup 2017: 1 6 July 2017, Bangkok, Thailand The Asia-Oceania Floorball Cup was organised by the Asia Oceania Floorball Confederation (AOFC) and was held for the first time in 2017. The AOFC Cup replaces the former international tournament, the Asia Pacific Floorball Championships. Our Singapore Men s Floorball Team has sent a group of debutants for this tournament to expose them at international stage. This Asia-Oceania Floorball Cup was a great platform to give these players the exposure. Singapore was grouped with Iran, China and Philippines. The preliminary games results favoured us as we topped the group with the score of 16-0, 13-0 and 14-1 respectively. In the semi final game, we faced Korea and won the game convincingly of a score of 11-0. Unfortunately, in the final, we did not triumph our strong rival, Thailand, lost the game of 4-8. 11th Women s World Floorball Championship (WFC) 2017: 1 9 December 2017, Bratislava, Slovakia Our Singapore Women s Floorball Team (SWFT) qualified for the 11 th Women s WFC 2017 in Bratislava, Slovakia, after emerging as Top 4 teams in the Asia-Oceania region. We were grouped with the host nation, Slovakia, Estonia and, Australia. Our women s team started the campaign against the host country with the local crowds packing the arena and despite the home crowd pressure, our team put up a good fight and subsequently lost the game (scoreline: 12-2). SWFT played against a familiar opponent, Australia, which ended in a deadlock of 5-5. Last group game, we faced another European team Estonia. Perhaps one of the fastest goals in Singapore Floorball history, Natalia Wee scored the first goal within 12 seconds to put our team on the front foot. However, the game ended with a loss of 4-12. Moving to the 13 th 16 th placing games, SWFT faced Thailand then Australia but to lose out in both games by a goal margin of 5-6 and 4-3 respectively. Men s World Floorball Championship Qualifiers (WFCQ) 2018: 22 28 January 2018, Jeju Island, South Korea To play for the year-end World Floorball Championship in Prague, the Men s team has to come in Top 4 positions. Squaring up against the likes of New Zealand, Japan and Malaysia in the preliminary stages. The Men s team came out undefeated with the score of 10-2, 4-4 and 11-1 SFA Annual Report (FY17/18) 6
respectively and earning a direct qualification spot into the final of the tournament. The team faced the Land of Down Under (Australia) in the final, same opponent they faced during the finals of WFCQ 2016. A neck to neck game which was only decided in the dying minutes of the final period that saw Australia walked away with the title of Champions in the WFCQ (AOFC) 2018, a score of 5-4. A successful campaign that saw the Men s team booking their ticket to the World Floorball Championship 2018 in Prague. Other than our national teams flying the nation s flag high in the various competitions, our match officials were present to ensure the high standard and quality of games displayed by participating teams. The two pairs of officials are Sharil Ismail & Oswind Rosayro and Carmen Teo & Lin Bin Bin II. ACTIVESG FLOORBALL CLUB The launch of ActiveSG Floorball Club was in the month of Get Active Singapore (GA!S) 2017. It initiated to support the Floorball s growth in Singapore and reach out to schools under the Sport Singapore Dual-Use Scheme, to encourage schools to open up their indoor sports hall outside of school hours for public floorball trainings. C Division Plate & Bowl Competition 17 August 2017 Number of teams: 24 teams 12 schools Senior Division Plate & Bowl Competition 27 March 2018 Number of teams: 5 teams 3 schools (c) International Accountants Day (IAD) International Accountants Day was launched in 2012, which saw accountants gather for a good cause and raise awareness for the charities community. The organisers presented the Association an opportunity to showcase our sport during the event, thanks to one of our sponsors, Nexia TS. It was done such that the accountants were taught the basics of Floorball by our national players and then a mini competition format. (d) Finnish Floorball League 2017 Classic vs TPS A first ever Finnish Floorball League game to be played outside of Finland. A special day for all Floorball community to remember! The game was played on 18 November 2018, at Our Tampines Hub Sports Hall, which saw a massive number of spectators (more than 1,000) catching this historic game. Before leading up to the game day, both teams spent some time developing and educating the schools players by conducting short clinics at various schools. CAPABILITY / OFFICIATING DEVELOPMENT i. SFA LEVEL 1 TECHNICAL COACHING COURSE There was a revamp in the coaching curriculum to meet the standard of Sport Singapore as well as to be align with the International Floorball Federation (IFF). Participants will be entitled to two certifications (from Sport SG and IFF) upon completion of course and assessment. SFA LEVEL 1 COACHING REFRESHER COURSE With the development of new coaching curriculum, existing coaches have to be updated with the current syllabus and terminology, in order to progress further to the next level of coaching course. The course was conducted for the identified coaches who will be attending the Level 2 Coaching Course held in June, during Women s Asia-Oceania Floorball Cup: Course: Level 1 Coaching Refresher Course Period: 31 March 2018 Venue: Sport Singapore iii.
