ENTRY LEVEL PROGRAMS: EXPLORE Entry level programs are one day programs that allow a student to try a program and be introduced to interesting natural areas in Red Wing. EXPLORE THE CANNON BOTTOMS Age minimum: 6 th grade Fee: $20.00 This one day adventure is an amazing opportunity to get out and explore an area right out our back door. The Cannon Bottoms area is over 2700 acres of wilderness and the winter time is one of the best times to be out in it. We will look for various signs of animal life, explore beaver lodges and simply enjoy the great outdoors in the winter. December 27 th 9:00-3:00 CORE PROGRAMS CROSS COUNTRY SKIING I Age minimum: 6 th Grade Fee: $45.00 From cross country skiing techniques to dressing properly for the cold, this program will prepare you to explore the woods in the spectacular season of winter. Ski local trails, see tracks and signs of wildlife and finish up with a moonlight ski. ELC will provide equipment. Pick a group. Activity Group 1 Group 2 Orientation 3:30-5:30 PM January 7 th February 5 th Session 2: 3:30-5:30 PM January 8 th February 6 th PIONEERING I _ Minimum Age: 6 th grade Fee: $45.00 Live like those who first arrived in Minnesota by taking on the pioneering life. You will stay in a log cabin built by students who came before you. As you learn the survival skills of a pioneer, you will split wood, cook over a fire, maintain the trails and play games. Activity Cabin Skills: 3:30-6:00 pm Overnight: Leave: 4:00 pm Return: 1:00 pm Group I January 15th January 18 th - January 19 th Session 3: 1:00-5:30 pm Shuttle Available January 9 th * February 8 th * Session 4: 4:30-8:00 PM *SCHOOL DAY January 10 th February 9 th CROSS COUNTRY SKIING II Age minimum: 7th Grade Prerequisites: Cross Country Skiing I (no prerequisite for 8 th graders and above) Fee: $100.00 Time to head to the North Shore. There we will ski the local rivers and trails, cook delicious meals, and play games in the cozy ELC cabin. Activity Orientation/Skills: 3:30-6:30 Trip: Leave : 3:30 Return: 6:30 Wrap-up Potluck with Participants and Parents 6:00-7:30 pm January 15 th January 18 th January 21 st January 23 rd

CORE PROGRAMS CROSS COUNTRY SKIING LEVEL III Fee: $175 Prerequisites: Cross Country Skiing II This program features five days of ski touring in the north woods of Minnesota. Participants will stay at the Two Harbors cabin! Activity/Time Orientation/Skills: 4:00-7:00 pm Trip: Leave 3:00 pm- Return 6:00 pm Wrap-up Potluck with Participants and Parents 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm February 12 th February 14 th February 18 th February 26th WHITEWATER KAYAKING I Minimum Age: 7 th Grade Fee: $25.00 Come learn the basics of whitewater kayaking in the YMCA pool. We ll work on paddle strokes, balance, and rolling techniques. At the end of the day we ll play water polo in our kayaks. See adult dates in the adult programs section! Pick a group! Activity / Time Group 1 Group 2 Skills: 7:00 pm 8:30 pm December 4 th December 11 th Skills: 7:00 pm 8:30 pm December 5 th December 12 th Skills: 7:00 pm 8:30 pm December 6 th December 13 th WINTER SURVIVAL I Age minimum: 7th Grade Fee: $75.00 Learn the basics of winter camping, including: Fire building skills and outdoor cookery. Ice crossing and basic ice rescue. Animal track identification. Prevention and treatment of hypothermia and frostbite. We will spend one night at the Two Harbors cabin and one or two nights in the snow. Activity/Time Orientation/ Skills: 3:30-6:00 pm Trip: Leave : 9:00 am Return: 5:00 pm December 20 th December 27th December 30th WINTER SURVIVAL III Prerequisites: Winter Camping I and II Fee: $175.00 We will be camping in the BWCA. Early in the season, we will minimize slush and deep snow. This should allow us easier access to more area. We will fish, explore, and camp for four days. Build your own ice fishing rod in the Ice Fishing Rod Construction program! Activity Orientation/skills: 3:30-5:30 Trip: Leave: 3:30 pm Return: 6:00 (approx) Wrap up: 6:00 pm-7:30 pm February 26 March 1 st March 7 th March 13 th FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE IS AVAILABLE! ELECTIVES NORTH SHORE ICE CLIMBING Now open to 8 th grade and above without prerequisite! Minimum Age: 8 th Grade Students must have completed Rock Climbing I or plan to complete the belay course on January 23 rd. Fee: $100.00 Activity/ Time: Belay course 3:30-5:30 (only required for students that have not completed Rock Climbing I) Orientation and skills: 3:30-7:30 : January 23 rd January 29 th YOUNG WOMEN IN THEWOODS: WINTER ADVENTURE Fee: $15 Come for an evening with the ladies and an outdoor winter adventure! We will take advantage of whatever snow or ice conditions we have and go sledding, skating, or exploring. We will wrap up the evening with pizza and inspiring outdoor women films. 8 th -12 th grade 6 th and 7 th grade December 17 December 19 3:30 pm -6:30 pm 3:30-6:30 pm Trip: Leave: 3:30 Return: 6:00 Wrap up: 6:00-7:30 INDOOR CLIMBING Minimum Age: 8 th grade Fee: $40 When the rock is cold and icy, try out a whole different form of rock climbing. Come check out Heather Nagel s bouldering garage. We ll spend a couple evenings bouldering in Red Wing, and we ll end with a trip to Roca Climbing in Rochester (included in fee). Activity/Time Bouldering: 6:30-8:00 pm Bouldering 6:30-8:00pm Roca Indoor Climbing: 3:30-8:00 pm January 28 th February 4 th February 6 th January 31 st - *February 3 rd February 5 th WHITTLING A SPOONATULA Minimum Age: 6 th Grade Fee: $10.00 Students will spend time at the ELC cabin learning safe whittling practices while carving soft and hard woods. Group 1 Group 2 November 27 th November 29 th 3:30 pm -6:30 pm 3:30-6:30 Pm ICE FISHING Minimum Age: 6 th grade Fee: $15 Participants 16 years of age or older need an angling license. This program will introduce participants to the various techniques of ice fishing in the local backwaters. YOUNG EXPLORERS 4 th -5 th Graders Sign up at www.redwingelc.com under the students tab. Winter deadline is November 15 th. After November 15 th you will be put on a wait list. YOUNG EXPLORER ICE SKATING Fee: $15.00 Students will be going skating on a local pond, sledding, playing winter games, and cooking supper over a fire. ELC can provide the ice skates if needed. Look for tracks, homes, and animals while exploring the woods. FAMILY MOONLIGHT SKI AND POTLUCK Enjoy a potluck dinner in the Frontenac warming house followed by a moonlight ski. Everyone is welcome! Equipment can be checked out 1-3 pm at ELC. February 19 th Time 5:30 potluck 6:30 Ski 7:00-8:30 pm ADULT WINTER MULTISPORT ON THE NORTH SHORE Stay at the Two Harbors Cabin Fee: 150.00 (does not include Lutsen pass) We will be heading to the North Shore to embrace the best of what's around, we will be based out of the scenic and rustic Two Harbors Cabin. We will be skiing / snowboarding at Lutsen on Friday. Saturday we will be Cross Country Skiing on the Cascade, Onion Rivers and/or Pincushion ski trails in Grand Marais. The last day we will ski the local trails, before heading home. ELC can provide gear as needed. Time January 8 January 10- January 13 6 pm -9 pm Afternoon-Evening TBD by group 6:00 pm
