OFFICIAL NEWSLETTER OF THE BADGER REGION CADILLAC & LASALLE CLUB The Enlightener MAY 2017 There will be a May meeting the weekend prior to the Car Show on May 13th to make sure we have everything completed. Regular meeting place, Waukesha State Bank, regular time. This is an excellent opportunity to see the historic Route 66, have a great week, and support our neighbor Region clubs to our south. Make sure you get your Registration in to take advantage of this event. Go to the CLC website, find the Calendar section and click on the Driving Tours section to get to the Registration form. You can also check your Self Starter for forms. The West of the Lake and St. Louis Regions have really worked hard to make this a memorable Driving Tour. All we have to do is to enjoy the drive! Badger Region CLC Meeting Minutes April 15, 2017 In attendance: Dan Cress, Ron Zeise, Rob Martin, Ron Wichinski, Bob Griepentrog, Dave Meisenheimer, Teri Gibeault, Joe Gibeault, Ray Stockero, Bill Klemp, Bob Brozynski The meeting was called to order by Ron Wichinski at 9:57 am on April 15 th at Waukesha State Bank. MAY 2017 Ron explained he was unable to attend a meeting scheduled with Larry Hanson and Brady Brown, the GM of Crest Cadillac. Since Larry was not in attendance today there were still some unanswered issues which he will follow up with Larry and with Brady if necessary. Ron then reviewed the task assignment list. Almost all areas are being handled and on track. Bill Klemp will contact Ken Kroll regarding the registration area setup and request it be set up as it was last year. Ron Zeise s 1976 Sedan DeVille will be displayed in the showroom this year. The dates and time as to when the car will be required at the dealership is being determined. Pricing of food items was mentioned and it was decided Linda Brozynski will decide the price and everything should be priced in full dollars so there is no need for coins. We will color code windshield placards to help the judges determine if the car is to be judged or for show only. Rob Martin displayed a Badger Region promotional brochure and application form designed by his wife Kim. This was the first Draft and he asked for feedback. It has a mix of pictures based on different Cadillac vintages. Ron Zeise will provide pictures of his 1976 and Dan Cress will send some past Car Show pictures. Other suggestions were made and Rob will come back with the next version. Part of the brochure discussion considered using a modified design of the 2015 Grand National Logo. Once the new Logo with the state outline has been enhanced and modified with other suggestions, we might consider this for the clothing we are considering having made. By-laws were then briefly discussed. Joe Gibeault gave a history of the beginning years and how our Club and region stumbled. We were put on probation until things were corrected, thus how the By-laws were conceived and put into practice. Ron provided a copy of the 1997 By-laws Joe found in his archives. Ron Wichinski has also offered a copy of the Waukesha Car Club by-laws as a reference. Bill Klemp, Ron Zeise, and Dan Cress volunteered to review and prepare suggestions to update the document to present the membership. Move to adjourn by Bill Klemp, Joe Gibeault seconded the motion. Meeting adjourned at 11:11 am. It is with great sadness to announce the passing of Badger Region Cadillac member Ed Haldemann. Ed s wife, Delores continues to be a club member. You may recall that Ed had the gorgeous chartreuse 1949 Convertible. It was completely restored, including the painting by him in his little garage in Friesland Wisconsin. Ed restored many cars for which parts were no longer available. He researched the part, how to make it and created the means to manufacture the missing parts. I ve had a number of occasions to spend time in the shop with ED and see his creative skills in action. He was known in the Beaver Dam area to be an inventor. Ron Wichinski Edward was born on September 3, 1926 and passed away on Saturday, March 18, 2017. Edward was a resident of Beaver Dam, Wisconsin at the time of his passing. He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1945-47. As part of the 158th Regimental Combat Team Ed was stationed in the Philippines during World War II. During his service he earned an Expert Infantry badge M-1 Sharpshooter badge Asian Pacific Theatre ribbon and Rifleman 745 badge. Burial took place at Friesland Cemetery with graveside military honors. Do you recognize this car? It looks like the car on our website. Jake Jakus thinks he discovered this car and it might be the same one. It is at the Indianapolis Museum of Art. It is on loan and owned by the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. It is on display in the garage of the Lilly Mansion. Lilly Mansion is a National Historic Landmark and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Oldfields Lilly House & Gardens is an elegant 26-acre estate on the grounds of the Indianapolis Museum of Art. At the heart of Oldfields is Lilly House, the mansion that was once the home of J.K. Lilly Jr., the late Indianapolis businessman, collector, and philanthropist. Lilly House is a historic house museum and has been restored to its 1930s splendor. Percival Gallagher, of the acclaimed landscape architecture firm Olmsted Brothers, designed Oldfields magnificent gardens and grounds in the 1920s. It is thought the car might be on display till August. CAN ANYONE HELP? I am an inactive club member. I own an original 1966 Cadillac which I am considering taking on a road trip this summer. It needs some work before I take it on the road. I am looking for a mechanic who has actually pulled a rear axle, who has actually rebuilt brakes, the 6-way power seat mechanism, etc. Do you have someone to recommend?
