Course Description The race starts with approximately 1.2 miles of doubletrack/dirt road before entering the Bartram Trail singletrack. The race follows Bartram for approximately 3.3 miles before turning away from the lake onto private land. The course then goes for 7.5 miles using a variety of gravel, dirt roads, woods roads, singletrack, and a couple of creek crossings. Riders will also cross US-221 for the first time. After circling the quarry, riders will drop down a rough, dirt-road descent to the Below Dam paved road. Riders will turn left on the road and climb up to US-221. After the racers cross US-221 for the second time, they will ride the Bartram trail headed west for approximately 18 miles, including the Lake Springs loop. Feed Zone 1 will be located at the Petersburg Trailhead at approximately mile 21 of the race (6.6 miles from Bartram Trailhead). Riders will continue forward after coming off the Bartram singletrack onto a fast, windy dirt road. There is one fast drop down to a bridge with several trees that should be approached with caution, especially if riding in a crowd. There is a nice little kicker after the bridge. When the riders clear the dirt road, they will turn right on the shoulder of Dogwood Lane, then cross Dogwood lane before heading through the start/finish. Riders will pass through the start area again (and Feed Zone #2). The route then uses more doubletrack through Wildwood Park to a final 1 mile stretch of Bartram singletrack. After the final bit of Wildwood Park singletrack, the race route crosses Washington Rd and begins approximately 10 miles of twisty, rooty Keg Creek singletrack. From there the route follows a 5 mile connector to back side of Mistletoe State Park. The connector is 50/50 pavement/dirt, and passes through a large pasture. Feed Zone #3 & #4 will be located in the pasture at Ridge Road. It will be accessible from both sides! Once at Mistletoe the route goes CCW for 7.3 miles of singletrack. Racers then return to Keg Creek via the same 5 mile connector they rode earlier then hit a few final miles of singletrack around Keg Creek. Once finishing Keg there is a 2.5 mile gravel road and doubletrack sprint to the finish. Trail Descriptions Bartram Bartram is very flat and very, very fast. There are very few technical challenges other than a few small stream crossings and maybe a small log or two to ride over. Lake Springs This loop branches off Bartram. It is very similar to Bartram but has a bit more elevation change. Keg Creek Keg Creek is known for its roots, but also has several creek crossings and generally quite a few logs to hop over, some as large as two feet in diameter. Mistletoe State Park trails The trails in Mistletoe have the most elevation change and technical challenges of all the trails on the route. There are several short but very steep climbs, an offcamber rocky section, a ravine ride, and lots more creek crossings. Some of these have the potential to be very deep (over two feet) depending on recent rainfall and lake levels.
