Callawassie Island is an 880 acre member owned island oasis surrounded by the Chechessee, Colleton and Okatie Rivers which lead to the Port Royal Sound and the Intracoastal Waterway. Tom Fazio took advantage of the Island s natural beauty and drama when he designed the 7 hole championship course in harmony with the gently rolling terrain, salt marshes, picturesque lagoons, stands of magnolia and live oak trees draped with Spanish moss. The Oak and Magnolia trees, as well as ponds and marshland, come directly into play on most holes. Consistently rated among the top courses in South Carolina, the Callawassie Island golf course offers challenges for every skill level.

Dogwood Course Hole # Hole # Hole # Hole #4 Hole #5 Hole #6 Hole #7 Hole #8 Hole #9 A pleasant mix of holes with the last 5 along scenic marsh front vistas. A good drive will set up this hole. There is sand along the right side of the fairway with the second shot to an elevated green with severe drop-offs on both sides. The fairway is open to the left which will avoid sand and severe rough. The green is elevated with sand on the left, and both sides have extreme drop-offs challenging the approach shot. This hole offers an open drive and second shot. The green, which is well guarded by sand and mounds, can create putting challenges due to its size and contour. Although the hole is open from the tee, a long straight drive is desirable due to rough and trees. The fairway narrows as you approach the well guarded green. The elevated tee presents a picturesque view over a pond to the green. Due to the distance and slope of the green, which has a severe drop from back to front, the pace of putting is extremely important to reduce multiple putts. This dog-leg left par 5 can be easily reached in three, or in for longer hitters playing down the left side. Water runs along the left with out of bounds on the right. The third shot must cross the marsh, and you cross a bridge to access the undulated green which requires a soft putting stroke. The fairway is wide with a waste bunker running along the complete left side and homes along the right. The green is well bunkered on the left and back, so a shorter approach is safer. This very scenic par hole requires a shot over the marsh with a large mound on the ride side of the green. Both left and long of the green have marsh and water. This finishing hole also follows the marsh with both water and sand on the left and trees on the right. The green is well protected by sand and there is a marsh even behind the green. Due to the contour of the fairway and the view towards the clubhouse, this hole is a fun way to end the round.

Magnolia Course This 9 requires various golf skills to successfully navigate the course layout. Both long and well placed drives are necessary with calculated second shots and precision shots for the par s. Hole # Hole # Hole # Hole #4 Hole #5 Hole #6 Hole #7 Hole #8 Hole #9 This hole is somewhat open with a bunker well placed on the right side for your drive. The green is protected by sand, and slopes toward the back. Hitting to the front of the green is recommended. This par 5 plays long with a severe drop-off on the left side which can be difficult to recover from. The third shot must carry the slope and sand traps with grass mounds protecting the right side of the green. The left side of this par has large bunkers with trees lining the right side. Being long is fine except that the green slopes from the back toward the front which requires a soft stroke to avoid long second putts. The tee presents an open fairway with a scenic second shot due to the large sand trap on the left of the green that has a well placed tree in the middle. The right side and back of the green are ringed with mounds to add to the visual presentation of the hole. Water runs the full length of the left side of this dog-leg left hole which may cause errant shots into the trees on the right. The green slopes severely toward the water which creates difficulty putting or chipping from the back. This can definitely be a risk reward hole on the second shot. This par requires the drive to carry water as well as a large trap in front and left as well as another trap to the right. The green slopes from the back toward the front which makes the pace of putt very important. Although there is a large tree to the right, the fairway is open to present a good second shot. Due to the slope of the green from right to left, with sand and water protecting the left side, the second shot can present a visual challenge. This par 5 becomes more difficult with each shot as you approach the green. Water runs along the left side of the fairway which narrows as you proceed to the green. The marsh is behind the green with sand well placed on both sides. The green is small and so well protected that the approach shot can make or break this hole. This signature hole is not only challenging but also visually pleasing. The marsh runs the complete length of the hole and also juts into the fairway as you get closer to the green. A well positioned sand trap is on the left of the fairway with sand almost circling the green. This green is very tight and undulated which requires a measured putting stroke.

Palmetto Course Well positioned ponds are present on 7 of the 9 holes; conservative course management is required and a soft putting stroke should be used when on the greens. Hole # Hole # Hole # Hole #4 Hole #5 Hole #6 Hole #7 Hole #8 Hole #9 Players must avoid the tree on the right with a drive to the left side enabling an open shot to the green. Left or long on the second shot plays worse then short. A precise drive is necessary on this tight fairway; aiming to the right side of the green will pay off due to the water and sand on the left, and in front of the green. A large trap and false front dictate carrying the ball well onto the green; trees on both sides can easily come into play. A solid drive is required to make this hole play shorter then it appears. The green is well bunkered in front and to the right with even more trouble behind it. The complete left side of the hole is out of bounds with the second shot requiring consideration of water on the right. The approach shot to the green should be toward the left side due to water on the right and in front of the hole. In order to reach the green a long shot over the water is recommended. The green is well bunkered on the right and can create a long putt due to its size. The fairway is open with water on the right further down and well bunkered on the left. The green is tight with bunkers on the right of it. Water runs down the left side on the drive with a pond also on the right which is reachable for longer hitters. The green has water on the right and traps on the left requiring a very accurate approach. Sand is present along the right side of the fairway which is open to the left. The undulated green is well positioned with water to the front and left, sand on the right and grass mounds circling it.
