Jasper Freeride Club Competition & the Alberta Winter Games Qualifier Jan 12-14, 2018 at Marmot Basin Ski Resort, Jasper Jasper Freeride Ski Team is excited to be hosting the Alberta Winter Games Qualifier and the first Club Competition of the season. To make this event more fun and rewarding for our freestyle athletes and families, the Alberta Winter Games Qualifier will be held within the context of our club competition. The age categories for the 2018 Alberta Winter Games are U14 and U16, which is 12-15 years of age (birth years 2002 to 2005), but we are welcoming all Learn-to-Train and early Train-to-Train athletes capable of competing on the venues to participate in the club comp. Generally, athletes who have competed in Canadian Series or Canadian Open Tour national competitions last year will be too advanced for this event. Jasper Club Comp Medals will be awarded for U10, U12, U14 and U16 age categories. The competition will have two events, moguls and slopestyle. The mogul course will be 160M long with a 23 degree pitch and 2 full size jumps. This puts it just below the level of difficulty set for a provincial level mogul competition. The slopestyle course will have 2 air tables (1 medium and 1 large) and 2 rail sections (one easy and one hard feature per section), again making the level of difficulty just below a provincial level competition. Coaches should ensure that all athletes registering for the event can safely ski the venues. To accommodate the large number of participants, athletes from Zones 1-3 will ski slopestyle on Saturday and moguls on Sunday. Athletes from Zones 4-8 will compete slopestyle on Sunday and moguls on Saturday. Medals will be awarded according to Winfree age groups and scored according to the better of two runs format. Competition results will be used to select eligible zone athletes for participation in the 2018 Alberta Winter Games, Feb 16-19 in Fort McMurray. Athletes who then qualify for the Alberta Winter Games based on their success at the AWG Qualifier will be advised immediately following the competition. If registration for this Qualifier exceeds the ability to host all the registered athletes, preference will be given to athletes competing for a spot in AWG and on a first to register basis.

To Be Eligible for the Alberta Winter Games: 1. All athletes must be residents of Alberta and are assigned by clubs to Zones 1 to 8. Zone 1 - Castle Mountain Freestyle & Fernie Freestyle Zone 2 - Southern Alberta Freestyle and Calgary Freeriderz Zone 3 - WinSport Zone 4 -Central Alberta Freestyle Ski Club & Bow Valley Freestyle Zone 5 -Jasper Freeride Ski Club Zone 6 -Edmonton Freestyle Ski Team Zone 7 - Tawatinaw Valley Freestyle Ski Club & Valley Ski Club & Vista Ridge Zone 8 -Northern Extreme Freestyle Ski Club 2. Alberta Winter Games Age Groups: U16, born in 2002 or 2003. U14, born in 2004 to 2005 3. All athletes must be current registered members of the Canadian Freestyle Ski Association. 4. All athletes must compete in both moguls and slopestyle to qualify for AWG. 5. At the Jasper AWG Qualifier, the format for selection for the Winter Games Zone athletes (6 male and 2 females per zone) is the best 4 zone scores taken from moguls and best 4 zone scores from slopestyle. Any alternates for the Alberta Winter Games must also have competed in the Jasper AWG Qualifier.
