BIKE AND GEAR CHECK-IN Before you Exit Transition: Ensure that you have : your official swim cap your goggles & wetsuit (optional) your timing chip attached to your LEFT leg. Glasses, hearing aids, etc. can be left on the table as you exit Transition (Swim In / Run Out chute). Collect them there again after the swim. No access to Transition once race briefing commences.
CHIP RULES No chip no time Ensure you fasten chip belt on LEFT leg use safety pin to secure. Place chip under wetsuit NOT over. New chips can be collected : At the Drop-out Clerk gazebo outside Transition. Your responsibility to request new chip. If you lose yours R150 invoiced to your athlete (race) number.
TEAMS Information specific to Teams: The Timing Chip + chip belt acts as the relay baton : the swimmer starts with the timing chip + chip belt and the runner must end with it. Please note that the timing chip will NOT work if it is not fastened to the left ANKLE of each athlete. The Timing Chip + chip belt are required by the cyclist after the race in order to check their bike out of Transition. Please read the Athlete Info Guide for more information.
WITHDRAWALS Every athlete who withdraws from the race, at any time, MUST report to the Drop Out Clerk gazebo outside Transition. If withdrawing from the swim, report to the Drop Out Clerk at the Medical pod. They will record your details and take a photo. If you withdraw during the race, your items in Transition may only be collected at Bike and Gear Check-Out (i.e. 15min after last 5150 athlete finishes the bike course, until 13h30).
SWIM START FUNTRI Teams & Individuals Rolling Start will begin at 07h30. Seed yourself correctly into anticipated swim times: Less than 8 min More than 8 min 5150 Rolling Start will begin at 08h10 or once water safety personnel are in position. Seed yourself correctly into anticipated swim times: Less than 25 min 25 30 min More than 30 min 4 athletes will start every 5 seconds
SWIM Swim Cap & Wetsuit Info Athletes will have their official Swim Cap numbered with their race number at Registration. (FYI : Spare caps will be available at the Swim Start : these will not be numbered on site). Wetsuits may be removed to waist when exiting the swim and fully removed in Transition only. Public nudity is prohibited. Age Group wetsuit temperatures: under 16 C = wetsuit compulsory; over 24.5 C = wetsuit prohibited. (See additional information in 2017 WTC Competition Rules.) Do not swim with your race number on.
FUNTRI - SWIM COURSE FUNTRI : 400m / one lap rectangular race course. Swimming direction : anti-clockwise. Due to the swim being in the sea, ALL athletes MUST be able to swim the distance : No option for walking / putting feet down. The first & last yellow inflatable buoys will mark the FUNTRI route. Round these buoys with them on your left.

TRANSITION 1 : SWIM TO BIKE Follow designated route to Transition to your bike. Prepare to cycle : public nudity is prohibited Helmet clipped BEFORE you handle your bike. Race number, to your back. Push your bike out of Transition. Mount bike after Mount / Dismount line outside Transition as instructed by the Referees.
BIKE COURSE FUNTRI : 20km 1 loop, out and back. There will be NO aid station on the FUNTRI bike course. FUNTRI is draft legal. Triathlon bikes are permitted, although we encourage you to only be on your tri-bars if you are leading a bunch. 5150 : 40km 1 loop, out and back. 5150 cut off : 3hr 30min from your Swim Start Time (i.e actual bike time 2hr 20min) Keep to the far left-hand side of the official bike lane : keep left, pass right. Inside the dedicated bike lane, all cycling is in single file on the shoulder of the cycling lane.

BIKE PENALTIES see also Competition Rules 2 x Penalty Tents 1 at 5150 Bike turn-around, 1 outside Transition (return). If you receive a penalty, report to first penalty tent you go past. Not stopping at the penalty tent after receiving a penalty / report a wrong card, will result in a DSQ. Penalty rules will remain as per WTC IRONMAN Race Rules. Blue card = 2 min penalty. Yellow card = 1 min penalty. 5150 Draft rule 12m: measured from front wheel to front wheel. 5150 cyclists have 25 seconds to overtake. 3 Drafting (blue) cards = DSQ (Red card) Littering / outside (non-official) help = DSQ Cell phone / MP3 device = DSQ Crossing white / centre line = yellow card or DSQ
5150 BIKE AID STATION There will be 1 x Aid Station at the 5150 Bike turn-around. Litter zone is 50m from before first and after last table of Bike Aid Station ONLY. NO Personal Seconding is allowed. (There is NO aid station on the FUNTRI bike course.)

SAG (support & gear) People transporters and bicycle transporters (trailer) will be located at : FUNTRI : Turn-around point (10km out) 5150 : Turn-around point (20km out) Athletes who withdraw from the course for whatever reason : Can stop at the above locations. Will be collected, with their bicycle, off the course by race support crew and transported to the SAG location. Be sure that your race number is recorded by the SAG Driver & your photo is taken. Bikes will be transported to Transition for collection at Bike & Gear Check-out only.
BIKE COURSE - Cut-offs Bike course cut-off is according to Your race Start time : 5150 cut off 3hrs 30mins after your Swim Start. If you do not make the bike cut-off, you may not start the run leg. NOTE: There will be a time of day cut off at 11h15 : any athletes who have not made the 5150 turn-around at the 20km mark will not be allowed to continue. If you miss being cut-off you can still be DNF d after the race, in the final results. The bike course will officially close at 12h00 : this is when all road restrictions on the bike course are lifted.
TRANSITION 2 BIKE TO RUN Dismount before dismount line near Transition, as instructed by Referees. Push your bike into Transition. Self-rack your bike back at your race number. Prepare to run : Race number to the front. Zip below sternum = yellow card penalty.
RUN COURSE Aid stations are approximately every 2.5 km. Littering outside aid station = DSQ. (Litter zone 20m from before first and after last table of Run Aid Station ONLY) NO Personal Seconding is allowed = DSQ. Cell Phone / MP3 device = DSQ. Run cut-off based on Your race Start time: 5150 cut-off is 4hrs 50mins from your Swim Start time. NO non-athletes on the finish line = DSQ.

APPEALS Appeals of a Referee decision or against another athlete must be lodged within 15 minutes after you cross the Finish Line. Lodged with Head Race Referee located at Drop Out Control gazebo outside Transition. Payment of R 500.00 cash to Head Race Referee: will be reimbursed if your appeal is successful. Appeal committee : Race Director / Head Race Referee / Triathlon SA representative.

BIKE & GEAR CHECK-OUT 15 min after last 5150 athlete finishes the bike until 13h30 ONLY : Collection of bikes, etc from Transition. Enter at Swim-In / Run-Out opening and Exit at Bike-Out / Bike-In opening. You need your Timing Chip + chip belt to collect your bike, etc out of Transition, post-event. If you cannot collect your own bike, give your race number and Timing Chip + chip belt to a friend or family member. Lost / not returned Timing chips cost you R150.00
AWARDS The awards presentation will commence 30 minutes prior to the last 5150 athlete finishing the race. This will take place adjacent to the Finish Line. Join in the ambience, festivities and camaraderie of the day s racing. Refreshments will be on sale until after the presentation.
