Prospector slow to begin. Spirited Character Rider J. Rule reported that the gelding overraced in the early stages and for this reason failed to finish the race when placed under pressure. Panda Eyes raced wide without cover during the early stages before being permitted to stride and sit outside the leader near the 1200 metres. Magentaz raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Virginia Water rider B. Mertens reported it was not his intention to lead, however, after beginning well and with the blinkers on, the mare took up that position. Rule reported that he was instructed to attempt to ride the horse in a mid-field position, however, after beginning fairly he noticed in the early stages Internship began to race fiercely and threw its head on a number of occasions and for this reason he eased away from that gelding passing the 900 metres. As a result he ended up racing further back in the field than expected. He added that Kiss The Stars travelled into the race well, however, when placed under pressure in the straight, made some ground but assessed its overall performance as disappointing. Near the 50 metres shifted in slightly and bumped with New York which shifted out. When questioned regarding tactics rider J. Mott explained after beginning well from the wide barrier he did not have to use the horse and as a result Calvin Williams settled outside the leader. Battle End slow to begin. Eljetem shortly after the start had to be steadied to avoid the heels of Grande Rosso which shifted out on jumping away. Rider M. Carson reported that after receiving interference at the start his mount was then unable to show early speed which was in contrast to its recent runs which had been in a lead/handy position. Refulgent raced wide without cover throughout the event. When questioned regarding tactics rider J. Allen reported that he initially had cover one off the fence. However, after runners improved around him Grande Rosso shifted out slightly approaching the 1400 metres which resulted in Refulgent then racing three-wide without cover. He added that he steadied in an attempt to gain cover behind Grande Rosso, however, was unable to do so and as a result raced wide for the remainder of the event without cover. Grande Rosso rider D. Holland reported that the gelding which performed poorly, travelled well throughout the event, however, when placed under pressure failed to respond to his riding. A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any obvious abnormalities.

Crafty Miss slow to begin and then reluctant to stride out during the early stages of the event. Rider L. Riordan reported that the mare failed to travel at any stage throughout the event. Madog when questioned regarding the tactics near the 500 metres, rider H. Coffey explained that he did not want to race excessively wide around Simply Simon and for this reason shifted to that geldings inside and had an uninterrupted run from that point. He added that Madog made good ground when under pressure in the home straight and in his view would be better suited to distances longer than todays event.
