R SERIES RGX II ANTI-SURGE SEWAGE AIR RELEASE AND VACUUM BREAK VALVES FOR EFFECTIVE AIR RELEASE, VACUUM PROTECTION AND SURGE ALLEVIATION

R AIR RELEASE & VACUUM BREAK VALVES SERIES RGXII ANTI - SURGE The Unique defence ginst pipe bursts nd pipeline system dmge! The Vent-O-Mt "Anti-Surge" sewge ir relese nd vcuum brek vlve, is n evolution of mrket feedbck nd the incorportion of the lredy proven Vent-O-Mt technology which itself resulted from yers of extensive reserch. The vlve unlike mny others is not just n dption of n ir vlve to hndle sewge vlve but the result of over 30 yers of deling with sewge nd seeing wht works nd dpting it to the needs of the end user The bsis of the Vent-O-Mt design is in the understnding of the physicl lws tht govern ir vlve nd pipeline opertion. Rection to pipeline dynmics is therefore instntneous nd protection provided is relevnt to the pipeline's needs. Vent-O-Mt truly represents the pinncle of vlve design evolution. This vlve design provides the most comprehensive, effective nd efficient pipeline protection reltive to initil cost of ny other vilble pipeline component. This cn esily be guged from the below: Automtic Surge Protection The unique vlve incorportes s stndrd, three design fetures to utomticlly protect pipeline, under ll pipeline operting conditions, from the destructive surge nd wter hmmer phenomen. These fetures re independent of ny mechnicl devices ensuring rection in very low milli second time spn. Effective Air Relese The RGXII design ensures effective de-ertion under ll pipeline flow nd operting conditions, vi either one of three dischrge orifices. Vcuum Protection The RGXII series lrge orifice dimeters equl the nominl size of the vlve. This ensures the lest possible resistnce to the intke of ir nd consequently the lest possible negtive pressure within drining pipeline. The use of solid, cylindricl flots ensures instntneous rection, discourges the "Venturi" phenomenon nd is further gurntee of effective vcuum protection. Gurnteed Performnce The RGXII hs been designed nd developed to provide the optimum usble nd sfe performnce reltive to ll functions. Selection dt hs been substntited through third prty testing nd cn therefore be confidently referenced. The surge protection function of the RGXII design hs been incorported in the well-known SURGE 2000 surge nlysis softwre progrmme nd cn be nlysed with gret ccurcy in other commercilly vilble surge nlysis progrmmes such s FLOWMASTER nd TRANSAM. Unprlleled Service Vent-O-Mt is committed to customer service nd to the selling of solutions. Our highly dedicted tem is vilble t ll times to ssist with ir vlve sizing nd positioning. Assistnce is lso provided in finding the most cost effective nd/or efficient surge protection strtegy relevnt to the pipeline's needs. Interntionl Representtion Vent-O-Mt is represented in the following countries nd regions: * USA * Cnd * Crriben * United Arb Emirtes * South Americ * Thilnd * Germny * Keny * Egypt * UK * South Afric * Zimbbwe * Tnzni * Mlwi * Zmbi * Nmibi * Hong Kong * Tiwn * New Zelnd * Vietnm * Kuwit * Brzil * Frnce * Singpore * Austrli

Series RGX II DESIGN - the RGX II hs been designed owing to customer demnd. When tking into ccount customer requests tht influenced the design, key benefits tht Vent-O-Mt ws originlly fmous for ws not compromised but further ones were incorported into the new design. ANTI - SHOCK" - "ANTI - SURGE" - The RGX II is ir relese vlve tht is supplied s stndrd with mechnism to prevent pipeline dmge from the high induced pressure trnsients ssocited with high velocity ir dischrge. Surge resulting from liquid column seprtion nd liquid oscilltion is drmticlly reduced s n utomtic function of this mechnism. this sme mechnism llows for controlled filling of the pipeline, mintining controlled dischrge t ll times. COMPACTNESS - The RGX II is more compct nd shorter without compromising the pressure rting of the vlve. FULL PORT OPENING ON NEGATIVE PRESSURE -During pipeline drining nd instnce of surge, the vlve will llow the intke of ir to the full nominl bore of the of the vlve. The RGX II series lrge orifice dimeters equl the nominl size of the vlve, i.e., 8" vlve hs 8" orifice. This ensures the lest possible resistnce to the intke of ir nd consequently the lest possible negtive pressure within drining pipeline. SEALING - The RGX II hs been designed for low hed seling s well where line pressures re generlly lower thn norml. MATERIALS - The RGX II is now vilble with fusion bonded Ductile Iron Body s well s 304 or 316 Stinless Steel Body. PERFORMANCE - The RGX II hs been designed nd developed to provide the optimum usble nd sfe performnce reltive to ll functions. QUALITY - The RGX II economiclly offers the highest qulity construction nd mterils vilble in n ir relese nd vcuum brek vlve. Stringent mnufcturing nd test procedures re mintined to ensure the best possible service nd relibility is given by every vlve produced. SERVICEABILITY - The RGX II design fcilittes extreme ese of service nd mintennce. Components re in corrosion free mterils to llow problem free disssembly nd ressembly even fter mny yers of opertion. All mintennce spres re replceble without specil tools or skills. OPERATION "Anti - Surge" Flot "Anti - Surge" Orifice Mximum Surge Level 1 2 PIPELINE FILLING (SUB CRITICAL AND EXCESSIVE SEWAGE/ EFFLUENT APPROACH VELOCITY) Air/gs flows through the nnulr re round the control flot ssembly nd to tmosphere through the lrge orifice. PIPELINE FULLY CHARGED Sewge/effluent hs entered the the vlve chmber nd buoyed the flots to close both the lrge nd the smll orifice. The design's compression/ volume reltionship prevents the medi from ever exceeding the mximum surge level indicted bove. The resultnt sewge/ effluent free re protects ginst the fouling of the orifice sels by solids or high viscous substnces Norml Operting Level (Smll Orifice Control Flot Buoyncy Level) 10 br (145 psi) Working Pressure 3 4 PRESSURIZED AIR/GAS RELEASE PIPELINE OPERATING The volume of disentrined ir/gs increses in the vlve, displcing the sewge/effluent to below the norml operting level. This results in the control flot dropping wy from the smll orifice. The pressurized ir/gs is then dischrged to tmosphere. Once ll dditionl ir is dischrged the control flot will close the smll orifice. Restore the sewge effluent to the norml operting level. informtion subject to chnge without prior notice VACUUM RELIEF (AIR INTAKE) PIPELINE DRAINING Upon pump stop, Sewge/effluent drins from the sewge ir vlve nd The negtive differentil creted by the drining liquid cuses tmospheric ir to push the "Anti-Surge" Flot down, opening the Lrge Orifice nd llows ir to displce the drining liquid to prevent potentilly dmging internl negtive pressure. pge:3 revision dte: July 2012

SELECTION & POSITIONING VALVE SELECTION FROM GRAPH All the relevnt informtion hs been condensed into one grph to enble vlve selection to be simple nd esy nd t the sme time to llow flexibility to the designer to move within certin prmeters which eventully llows the most suited nd economiclly vible vlve to be selected. IMPORTANT NOTE: The grph is bsed on vcuum breking nd limiting vcuum to 0.34 br (5 psi) below tmospheric. It is not good prctice to go below 0.69 br (10 psi) bsolute (0.303br (4.4 psi) differentil in pipeline t se level). The grph llows for chnge in ltitude nd hence chnge in tmospheric pressure nd is bsed on the ssumption tht more thn one vlve per section is used for vcuum protection nd venting ACTUAL SELECTION ( GRAVITY OR PUMPED PIPELINES) Selection is bsed on the premise tht pipelines re generlly filled t slower rte thn they re drined, scoured or t which seprtion occurs ( mximum fill/ drin rtio of 1:1). EXAMPLE OF VALVE SIZING (ASSUMMING AN INDIVIDUAL SECTION) A Ø 400mm (16") pipeline drining t 377l/sec which equtes to 3m/sec (10ft/s) wht vlve size should be selected? 1. Determine the mximum dringe rte in m/s either for scouring, pipe rupture or column seprtion for prticulr pipeline section. 2. Move verticlly on the grph from the m/s point nd move horizontlly from the pipe size finding the intersecting point. 3. This point should fll within the operting bnd of prticulr vlve size. Considertion must be given to the fct tht the upper portion of the bnd pproches - 0.34 br (5 psi) nd the lower portion - 0.1 br (1.45 psi) for ech vlve size, this llows the designer to see t glnce if the vlve is too close to It's operting limits nd to select the next vlve size. From the 3m/sec (10ft/s) point, move verticlly until the Ø 400mm (16") pipe size horizontl line is intersected. This plces the intersection point squrely in the centre of the operting bnd of DN80 (3") Vent -O- Mt RGX vlve. But, if for exmple, the dringe rte is 503l/sec which equtes to 4m/sec (13.2ft/s), the vlve would be operting on it's limit nd it my be prudent to chnge to DN100 (4") Vent -O- Mt RGX. 1. ON APEX POINTS (reltive to hydrulic grdient). VALVE POSITIONING 2. 5 METERS (16 FEET) BELOW APEX POINTS FORMED BY INTERSECTION OF PIPELINE AND HYDRAULIC GRADIENT - i.e. where pipeline siphoning over Grdient sewge ir relese vlve positioned on the pex would brek the siphon. If positioning on pex is required modified VENT -O- MAT Series RGX cn be supplied. 3. NEGATIVE BREAKS (increse in downwrd slope or decrese in upwrd slope). 4. SURGE & WATERHAMMER PROTECTION Introduction The Vent-O-Mt "Anti-Surge" sewge ir relese nd vcuum brek vlve, is n evolution of mrket feedbck nd the incorportion of the lredy proven Vent-O-Mt technology which itself resulted from yers of extensive reserch. The vlve unlike mny others is not just n dption of n ir vlve to hndle sewge vlve but the result of over 30 yers of deling with sewge nd seeing wht works nd dpting it to the needs of the end user. Surge Protection - Initil Filling The RGXII is lwys bised in the "Anti-Surge" mode mening ll ir relese is controlled through the Anti-Surge Orifice which is erodynmiclly engineered to throttle ir dischrge when liquid pproch velocity would otherwise become too gret nd induce n uncceptble pressure rise. The ir throttling ction increses resistnce to the flow of the pproching liquid which consequently decelertes to velocity which reduces the pressure rise when the vlve closes (see opertion of vlve on pges 3). Vent-O-Mt series RGXII is n essentil precution for pipeline priming. Surge Protection - Pump Trip Conditions In instnces where pipeline experiences liquid column seprtion due to pump stoppge, high shock pressures cn be generted when the seprted liquid column rejoins. The Vent-O-Mt series RGXII tkes in ir through the unobstructed lrge orifice when liquid column seprtion occurs, but controls the dischrge of ir/gs through the "Anti-Surge" Orifice s the seprted column commences to rejoin. The rejoining impct velocity is thereby considerbly reduced to llevite high surge pressures in the system (see opertion of vlve on pges 3). Other surge control mesures my, dependnt on pipeline profile, dimeter nd operting conditions, be needed to provide the primry surge llevition function with the Vent-O-Mt sewge ir-vlves forming n integrl nd vluble ddition in combined strtegy for further reducing surge pressures. The benefit of the "Anti-Surge" Orifice cn be redily demonstrted by suitble surge modelling softwre. Surge Protection - Pipeline Operting The opertion of vlves nd similr flow control devices cn cuse high-pressure trnsients in n operting pipeline. The unique, single chmber design of the Vent-O-Mt series RGXII vlve enbles pocket of ir to be trpped in the vlve chmber.automtic opertion of the smll orifice control flot regultes the volume of ir entrpped. The volume mintined in the vlve will provide cushioning benefit to the pipeline for short durtion trnsient pressure "spikes". This effect cn be modelled by the design engineer using suitble surge softwre. Computer Modelling The effectiveness of Vent-O-Mt Anti-Surge technology hs been substntited by independent third prty testing nd by thousnds of pplictions globlly. Effective computer modelling, bsed on prcticl tests, hs been ensured in the well-known nd respected commercilly vilble surge nlysis softwre progrmmes such s AFT impulse, FLOWMASTER, Wthm nd SURGE 2000. Technicl nd Finncil Benefits 1. Improved llevition of surge behviour including reduction of: - Surge pressure mgnitudes by slowing surge velocities - Durtion of oscilltion following pump trip, s the sewge ir-vlve continuously bsorbs nd dissiptes the energies of the surge. 2. Potentil for reduction in size nd/or quntity of conventionl surge protection devices such s surge vessels etc. 3. Automtic protection during initil filling when most surge protection devices re not opertionl. 4. Holistic protection s ech sewge ir vlve instlled hs design fetures to utomticlly dmp surges. 5. The vlve is virtully mintennce free. informtion subject to chnge without prior notice pge: 10 revision dte: July 2012

VENT -O- MAT MODEL NO. Pge 5 - R PURCHASE SPECIFICATION CONSTRUCTION & DESIGN The Sewge Air Relese & Vcuum Brek Vlve shll consist of ductile iron or stinless steel body, Stinless steel direct cting flot nd solid lrge orifice nd Anti-Surge flots in H.D.P.E. - stinless steel nozzle nd Stinless steel top cp nd EPDM rubber sels nd set. The vlve shll hve n integrl "Anti-Surge" Orifice mechnism which shll limit trnsient pressure rise or shock induced by closure to less thn 1.5 x vlve rted working pressure, however, must open to the full dimeter of the vlve size during negtive pressure. The intke orifice re shll be equl to the nominl size of the vlve i.e., 150mm (6") vlve shll hve 150mm (6") intke orifice. Lrge orifice seling shll be effected by the flt fce of the control flot seting ginst EPDM rubber 'O' ring housed in dovetil groove circumferentilly surrounding the orifice. Dischrge of pressurized ir shll be controlled by the seting & unseting of smll orifice nozzle on EPDM rubber sel ffixed into the control flot. The nozzle shll hve flt seting lnd surrounding the orifice so tht dmge to the rubber sel is prevented. The vlve construction shll be proportioned with regrd to mteril strength chrcteristics, so tht deformtion, leking or dmge of ny kind does not occur by submission to 1.5 times the designed working pressure. Connection to the vlve inlet shll be fcilitted by flnged ends conforming to PN10, rtings of BS EN 1092 or SABS 1123 Stndrds or ANSI B16.5 Clss 150. AS 4087 Fig. B7, AS 2129 Tble E. Flnged ends shll be supplied drilled to the Specified Stndrd. OPERATION 1. Prior to the ingress of liquid into the vlve chmber, s when the pipeline is being filled, vlves shll vent through the Anti-Surge orifice t ll times. 2. Vlves shll not exhibit leks or weeping of liquid pst the lrge orifice sel t operting pressures of 0,5 br (7.2 psi) to 1.5 x vlve rted working pressure. 3. When pipeline is fully chrged vlves shll respond to the presence of ir/gs by dischrging it through the smll orifice t ny pressures within specified design rnge, i.e. 0,5 br (7.2 psi) to 10 br (145 psi) nd shll remin lek tight in the bsence of ir. 4. Vlves shll rect immeditely to pipeline dringe or liquid column seprtion by the full opening of the lrge orifice so s to llow unobstructed ir intke t the lowest possible negtive internl pipeline pressure. informtion subject to chnge without prior notice pge: 11 revision dte: July 2012

TEST SPECIFICATION All ir relese vlves supplied shll be subjected to the following testing procedures in the order lid down: (A) A high pressure strength nd lek test whereby the vlve is filled with wter nd pressurized to twice the rted working pressure which shll be held for period of 2 minutes. Any leking, weeping or sweting shll be reson for rejection. (B) A low hed lek test whereby the vlve is filled with wter nd pressurized to mximum of 0.5 br (7.2 psi) using visible wter column connected to the test rig. The vlve shll be rejected if lek tightness is not mintined for 2 minutes. (C) Every tenth ir relese vlve of the sme size nd pressure rting must be subjected to smll orifice function test "DROP TEST" - whereby the vlve is filled with wter, pressurized to bove rted working pressure nd isolted from the test rig by closure of n isolting vlve. A chmber in the test rig immeditely prior to the isolting vlve must be filled with compressed ir t pressure equl to tht being mintined in the ir relese vlve. The isolting vlve is then opened so s to llow the ir to rise in the ir relese vlve without the pressure dropping lower thn 2-3 br (29-44 psi) bove rted working pressure of the ir relese vlve. The "DROP TEST" is then crried out by slowly bleeding off the pressure through suitble cock until rted working pressure is reched nd the flot drops wy from the orifice to llow dischrge. Filure of the ir relese vlve to function in the mnner described will be reson for rejection. On request the mnufcturer shll provide btch certifictes of test complince which shll be cross referenced to seril numbers indelibly mrked onto the identity lbel of ech vlve. IMPORTANT NOTE: It is impossible to inject ir into n incompressible liquid, ir injection cn only be chieved if the liquid cn be displced which implies tht the pressure in the test rig must be reduced to tmospheric, nd bsolutely nothing is proven by dischrge through the smll orifice of the ir relese vlve t tmospheric pressure. "DROP TESTING" in this mnner is not cceptble. informtion subject to chnge without prior notice pge: 12 revision dte: July 2012
