Meziere dominates Pro Gas with sweep of June races Auto Club Dragway Fontana, Calif. June 10-11, 2017 Dave Meziere has had a remarkable start to the 2017 Southern California Pro Gas season, winning three of the four races contested, including a sweep of the June doubleheader weekend at Fontana. He has a 15-1 win-loss ratio in Pro Gas this year with his only loss coming in the first round of the second race of the year. Greg Martin was the top qualifier of the Meziere Cool Down Nationals, with Dave Meziere second, John Ross third, and Kevin McClelland fourth. In the quarterfinals Meziere defeated followed by John Ross, Greg Martin, and John Parrino. Meziere opened eliminations with a tight race with Mark Fenton. Fenton had a.001 advantage off the line, but Meziere got the win.014 over the index when Mark broke out by.006. The second round was equally tough, with Meziere cutting a.006 light to Randy Fabbro s.008, with the race decided in a double breakout, 9.897 to a 9.869 for Fabbro s Pinto. In round three, Dave got a.020 better light than opponent Evan Kowalski, and took the win.024 over to a losing.025 over. Meziere got a bye in the semifinals. On the opposite side of the ladder, Kevin McClelland showed why he s in second place in the points chase and he s going to keep Meziere in sight for the series championship. Kevin averaged a.016 reaction time in his first four rounds of eliminations, defeating Jim Israel, Bob Harris Mike Boner, and Steve Parsons before meeting up with Dave Meziere in the final. Meziere drove his Chevy Cavalier without a loss over the weekend, picking up two trophies and two big checks for winning both events. His winning time was a perfect 9.900, 167.55 while Kevin posted a second-best 9.885, 153.54 and.008 red -light. Dave Meziere holds a 396-point lead over McClelland going into the July 8-9 races at Fontana, with John Ross third and Ray Cordeiro fourth. Larry Bradshaw, Travis Balough got a bye as Mark Fenton had driveline issues the previous round, Paul Wiechmann got an easy pass to the semis as Rodney Scarlett had starting line problems, and John Ross got a bye. John Ross had a.003 advantage on Travis Balough in their semifinal match-up,.013 to a.010, and he got the win light with a 9.930, 164.79 to a losing 9.927, 162.35. Meziere went to the final when Wiechmann redlighted. A foul start decided the final round, as Meziere took the win when John Ross redlighted by.001 seconds. Meziere Enterprises was the event sponsor. Pro Gas Photo Extra John Ross is having a great year with his B&B Electric Corvette, finishing runner-up in the Meziere race. Mike Boner went to the third round of the K&N Lucas Race, but lost to Kevin McClelland. Kevin McClelland went to his second final of 17 when Steve Parsons red-lighted in the semifinals of Sunday s race. Paul Wiechmann is currently 5th in the championship standings and 7th in the Pro Gas Shootout. Gary Hesselback s 27 Ford roadster lost in round two of the K&N Lucas race.
