Since joining the club for the 2013 season, Porter has compiled one of the league s top winning percentages among active coaches with a record of 55-39-44, while leading the Timbers to their first MLS Cup title in 2015, two Western Conference Championship appearances and double-digit victory totals in each of his first four seasons. During his tenure, the Timbers have qualified for CONCACAF Champions League twice (2014-15, 2016-17), finished in the top three in the Western Conference twice and made their deepest run in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, reaching the semifinals in 2013. Porter coached in his 100th game as an MLS coach against Real Salt Lake on Oct. 14, 2015, posting a record of 39-25-36 in those games, which tied Dominic Kinnear for the fewest losses (25) in MLS history in a coach s first 100 career games. In addition, his.570 winning percentage during that span ranked fourth among then-active coaches through their first 100 games, behind the Bruce Arena (62-37-1,.625), Sigi Schmid (52-33-15,.595) and Kinnear (40-25-35,.575). Ending the 2015 campaign with a nine-game unbeaten run across all competitions, the Timbers lifted their first MLS Cup trophy with a 2-1 win over Columbus Crew SC on Dec. 6, 2015. Portland finished the regular season with an MLS-club-record 15 wins, while also tying for the league lead in shutouts (13). On the road, the Timbers finished the 2015 season tied for the most road wins (7) in the league. Porter, who led the Timbers to a club-record 12 home victories in 2016, is a two-time recipient of the Oregon Sports Awards Slats Gill Award for Sportsperson of the Year (2013, 2015), becoming the fourth soccer-related figure to receive the honor since it was founded in 1957. On Aug. 6, 2014, Porter helped guide the MLS All-Stars to a 2-1 win over Bayern Munich in the 2014 AT&T MLS All-Star Game at Providence Park. In his first season with the club, Porter was named the 2013 MLS Coach of the Year after assembling one of the biggest turnaround seasons in league history, guiding the Timbers to a 23-point improvement and a plus-43 goal-differential increase over the previous season. The 2013 club finished atop the Western Conference to secure its first MLS playoff berth and posted a league-best 15 shutouts, including a league-record 11 clean sheets at home. Prior to joining the Timbers, Porter, who holds a U.S. Soccer Federation A license, was one of the most successful coaches in NCAA history during his tenure as head coach at the University of Akron (2006-12). He compiled a career mark of 123-18-17 and was named 2009 NSCAA National Coach of the Year. Porter led the Zips to back-to-back NCAA College Cup appearances (2009, 2010) and the school s first national title in any sport in 2010. Porter s coaching career also includes time as the head coach of the U.S. U-23 Men s National Team during 2012 CONCACAF Olympic qualifying and three years as an assistant coach on the U.S. U-18 National Team (2009-11). Porter was an assistant coach for six years (2000-05) at Indiana University, winning two national championships with the Hoosiers. Porter graduated from Indiana in 1998 with a degree in sports management. He and his wife, Andrea, have three children two sons, Colin (8) and Jake (6), and a daughter, Stella (5).

PREVIOUS MATCH - PORTLAND TIMBERS AT LA GALAXY (W 1-0) MATCH RECAP The Portland Timbers secured their first away win of the season, defeating the LA Galaxy 1-0 before 20,982 fans at the StubHub Center on March 12. Portland s win against the Galaxy marks its strongest start to a season in the club s MLS era, with the Timbers picking up six points through their first two regular-season games. Scoring his first MLS regular-season goal since Oct. 18, 2015, midfielder Diego Chara finished early in the first half for Portland, with midfielder Diego Valeri recording his second assist of the season, as the Timbers went on to win their opening away match for the first time in their MLS era. Attacking quickly on the counter attack, Portland (2-0-0, 6pts) opened the scoring in the eighth minute when a long, searching ball from midfielder Sebastián Blanco found Chara in space inside the Galaxy s half. Running onto Blanco s pass, Chara headed the ball inside the box to midfielder Diego Valeri, who played a first-time pass back to Chara for a close-range finish, with the Timbers scoring just 17 seconds after the Galaxy s corner kick on the other end of the field. Following a second yellow card for defender Jelle Van Damme in the 34th minute of play, reducing the Galaxy (0-2-0, 0pts) to 10 men, Portland continued to create goalscoring opportunities, producing 14 overall shots and six shots on target throughout the match. With 20 minutes remaining in the game, Portland created two clear-cut chances to extend its lead, with Valeri and forward Fanendo Adi each coming close to finding the back of the net. In the 70th minute, Nagbe s pass released defender Marco Farfan, who became the youngest player to feature for Portland in an MLS match by starting and playing 90 minutes against the Galaxy, with the defender finding Valeri for a wellstruck attempt that forced a strong save from LA goalkeeper Clement Diop. Taking a touch past Diop, Adi managed to cut past midfielder Sebastian Lletget, but a last-ditch tackle from defender Rafael Garcia prevented the scoring opportunity. Portland goalkeeper Jake Gleeson was only forced to make two saves in the contest, including a strong right-handed parry deep in stoppage time in the 94th minute to preserve Portland s first shutout of the season. NOTES The Timbers held the lead for 82 minutes, marking the largest length the club has ever held a lead in an away MLS match. The victory against the Galaxy marked Portland s first win in a road opener since joining MLS in 2011. The Timbers have won consecutive matches to open the season for the first time since the 2008 season when the club played in USL. After two weeks of matches, the Timbers have the highest Goal Difference in MLS (+5). Marco Farfan became the youngest Timbers player to play an MLS match at 18 years old and 120 days. The record was previously held by Alvas Powell, who was 19 years old and 16 days when he made his debut for Portland. Diego Chara scored his seventh career goal for the Timbers. Chara s last goal was also against the LA Galaxy at the StubHub Center, occurring on Oct. 18, 2015. Diego Valeri tallied an assist for a second consecutive match, marking the 13th time in Valeri s career that he has had an assist in consecutive matches. Valeri has recorded 44 career assists for Portland, which ranks tied as the thirdmost assists in Timbers history across all eras (since 1975). Roy Miller also made his debut for the Timbers, starting and playing 90 minutes. Farfan had the most tackles for either team in the match (5). With his start and appearance, Farfan became the first Timbers academy player to make his MLS debut with the first team. QUOTES Portland Timbers head coach Caleb Porter On winning the first road game It s not always about being pretty. It s about winning, and on the road, especially, you have to dig deep to win games. I thought our guys did that. We had some new guys in the lineup, some injuries to manage this week. Marco Farfan makes his debut at 18 years old and looked like he fits right in. Roy Miller steps in with only a couple of days with the team. Ben Zemanski has to come into the game before half. So, these are things that you need out of a team and these are things that you need to do to win games. You need to grind, you need to stick together and you need guys to come up with big plays like Jake (Gleeson) did at the end of the game, making that save. Obviously there are things to improve on like every game win, lose or draw. We re going to look at that. Obviously, we should ve put the game to bed a lot sooner and then it would ve been, more pretty. Portland Timbers defender Marco Farfan On his MLS debut It s a dream come true. I don t think a kid can dream something better than this debuting, playing 90 minutes and getting a clean sheet with the guys out there. It was just fantastic. Portland Timbers midfielder Diego Chara On scoring against the Galaxy... I feel great. I think that the goal was a great team play. I think we created a lot of chances on goal today.

SCOUTING HOUSTON Led by new head coach Wilmer Cabrera, who joined the club during the 2016 offseason from USL side Rio Grande Valley FC Toros, the Houston Dynamo are off to a strong start in the 2017 MLS regular season, picking up six points through their first two matches. After defeating Seattle Sounders FC 2-1 in its opening match on March 4, the Dynamo secured a 3-1 victory against Columbus Crew SC on March 11. Both games were played at BBVA Compass Stadium, with Saturday s match against Portland marking the Dynamo s first road contest in 2017. Forwards Erick Torres and Romell Quioto lead the team in goals scored with two each, while midfielder Alex leads the team in assists (3). GOAL DIFFERENCE With the second-most goals scored (6) in MLS through two weeks of action, the Timbers currently have the highest goal difference (+5) heading into the match against Houston after recording their first shutout of the season against the Galaxy. FACING HOUSTON Saturday s match marks the 11th regular-season match between Portland and Houston since 2011, with the Timbers registering a 3-1-1 home record against the Dynamo during that stretch. In the last three matches between the two teams at Providence Park, the Timbers have outscored the Dynamo 7-4, posting a 2-0-1 record. HOME FORM Dating back to the start of the 2015 MLS season, the Timbers have won the third-most home games in MLS with 21 home wins during that stretch, including a MLS-club record 12 MLS home wins in 2016. Additionally, dating back to the 2016 MLS season, the Timbers have won or tied 15 of their last 18 matches (13-3-2) played at Providence Park, including six straight wins. FEWEST LOSSES Since 2013, the Timbers have lost the third-fewest games in MLS in regular season action (39), and the second-fewest in the Western Conference. During that stretch, only the LA Galaxy (37) and New York Red Bulls (38) have lost fewer matches in regular-season play. UPCOMING MILESTONES With a win against Houston, the Timbers would record three straight wins to open up a season for the first time in MLS, marking their longest streak since 2008 when the team played in the USL. Following his next finish, Darlington Nagbe, who has recorded 24 goals since joining the Timbers, will move into a tie for ninth place for goals scored in club history across all eras (since 1975). Additionally, with two more assists, Nagbe, who has 26 career assists, will move into fifth place in club history across all eras (since 1975) for assists. With his next two MLS goals, forward Fanendo Adi will move into a tie for the most goals scored across all eras of the club (since 1975). Adi currently has 43 league goals for Portland, while John Bain ranks first with 45 goals. 50-50 CHALLENGES Only two teams have had more success on 50-50 balls during the first two weeks of the season than the Portland Timbers, with the Timbers winning 56.52 percent of the duels they were involved in (106 of 188). Only the San Jose Earthquakes (57.36) and New England Revolution have won more 50-50 challenges (56.52). STRIKE RATE Dating back to the 2015 season, Portland has scored at least once in 19 consecutive regular season home matches, the longest current streak in MLS. Over that span, the Timbers have posted a 14-2-3 home record with 44 goals scored and a plus-21 goals against average. BATTLING THROUGH FOULS Over the last three seasons, the Timbers have been one of the most fouled teams in the league, with Portland suffering the second-most fouls in MLS. Dating back to the start of the 2015 MLS season, the Timbers have won 918 fouls in regular-season play. During that stretch, the only team to suffer more fouls in regular-season action is the San Jose Earthquakes, with the Western Conference team suffering 938 fouls. FINISHING TOUCH Dating back to the 2016 season, Timbers forward Fanendo Adi has scored in six consecutive home matches, with Portland winning all six of those matches. In the Timbers 2017 home opener, Adi scored two goals in the final two minutes of the game to help guide Portland to a 5-1 win. Since the start of the 2014 MLS campaign, Adi leads the league for the most braces scored (12). SHUTOUT STREAK Now in his seventh season with the Portland Timbers, midfielder Diego Chara has been a constant presence for Portland. Following the team s 1-0 victory against the LA Galaxy on March 12, Chara has now played in 49 shutouts for the club, which is the fourth-most of any midfielder in MLS since his debut in 2011.
