Show Information Flower Arrangement & Floristry Classes Regulations OPENING TIMES & TICKET PRICES Thursday - Saturday 09:30 17:30 21.50 Sunday 09:30 16:30 19.50 Sunday late 14:00 onwards 10.50 Show Programme 3.50 COMPETITOR BADGES AND COMPETITOR ASSISTANT TICKET Each competitor will be offered one competitor badge allowing entry into the Show each day. This must be shown at the gate each & every time access into the show is required. In addition, one ticket will be also offered, allowing entry into the show for a companion to assist in the break-down of the exhibit. The competitor assistant ticket allows entry from 15:30 on Sunday 28 th April only. Non-competitors, further competitor assistants and those wishing to visit the Show, must purchase a ticket at the normal visitor price, shown above. COMPETITOR PARKING Staging day Parking is unrestricted, no parking permit or badges required to access the show. Show days Due to the limited space available, competitors during the show days are required to park in the main public car park. Break down To aid the breakdown of exhibits, one E 15:30 exhibitor parking permit allows access into the exhibitor car park from 15:30 on Sunday 28 th April only. Note, all occupants of the vehicle will require appropriate badge/ticket. INFORMATION POINT & SHOW OFFICE The Information Point, in the foyer of the Gardening Hall, are able to answer general questions on the show. If your query is more specific about staging, the Show Office located in the Plant Nursery Pavilion, will assist. The Information Point and Show Office will be open during staging and event days. EMERGENCY CONTACT - 01423 546065 In case of an emergency, contact the Show Office first. Emergency contact number (not for general queries) - 01423 546065 SECURITY 24-hour security will commence at 18:00 on Friday 19 th April and run to 08:00 on Monday 29 th April. FIRST AID A First Aid response team is based on-site during staging and show days, between 08:30 18:00. If you require first aid during the show, please contact the Show Office using the emergency number above, or any member of the Show Team. ANIMALS No animals, other than those required as assistance, are permitted into the show site or car park. 1

APPLICATION ENTRY Entry forms are to be returned along with the signed Risk Assessment form (p4) by Friday 29 th March 2019. STAGING Staging may commence from 14:00 on Wednesday 24 th April and must be completed by 06:00 on Thursday 25 th April. At this point, all competitors must leave the marquee in preparation for judging. All classes are to be staged by only one competitor. Each competitor is allowed to enter no more than one entry in each class. Competitors must not remove exhibits before the close of show on Sunday at 16:30. A whistle will be blown to indicate when dismantling may commence. All exhibitors must present their exhibitor s badge and confirmation card when collecting dismantling and/or collecting entries. All exhibits must be removed by 18:00, unless by prior written arrangement. JUDGES FLOWER ARRANGING CLASSES Alan Beatty, Jackie Charnock, Lilias Hoskins, Elizabeth Weaver JUDGES FLORISTRY CLASSES tba FLOWER ARRANGING CLASSES Classes A1 A12 will be judged in accordance with the NAFAS Competitions Manual (2015 green book) It is strongly recommended that all competitors staging flower arrangements refer to this manual. Pre- prepared work is allowed in all classes unless stated otherwise in the schedule. Each exhibitor is allowed a maximum of four entries in section A, but only one entry per class. If a card confirming your entry has not been received within 14 days, please contact the Organisers. The North of England Horticultural Society Cup awarded to the winner of flower club class A1. An allowance of 35 towards staging will be paid to each club entering A1. A complimentary admission ticket will be given to each of the two exhibitors in the club class in addition to their exhibitor badges. The Chairman of each club entering will also receive 2 complimentary tickets. The Musgrave Hoyle Trophy awarded to the Best in Show in classes A2, A3, A5, A6, A7, A8, A9, A10, A11 and A12. The Jeannie Watson Trophy awarded for the best use of colour in all individual classes. The Pat Hutchinson Trophy awarded for the best use of UK garden plant material. The Joyce Hemingway Trophy awarded to the winner of A3. The Glenwood Trophy awarded to the winner of A4. The Eleanor Shaw Trophy awarded to the winner of A8. The Evelyn Mary English Trophy awarded to the winner of A9. The Anne Fallas Trophy awarded to the winner of A11. The Sheila Matthews Trophy awarded to the winner of A12. The Grenfell Medal the Royal Horticultural Society s award for flower arrangers, awarded with 35 to the competitor gaining the most points in the flower arrangement section, excluding classes A1, and A4. Points awarded are 1 st 3; 2 nd 2; 3 rd 1. Any competitor who has won this award in the last two years will not be eligible in 2019. In the event of two competitors gaining equal points, then the award will go to the one who has taken the greatest number of first prizes and has not won the medal previously. 2

FLORISTRY CLASSES All arrangements may be brought to the show ready prepared. Fresh flowers/plant material to predominate. If a card confirming your entry has not been received within 14 days, please contact the Organisers. Entries are to be staged by one person only. No entries will be accepted after 06:00 on Thursday 25 th April 2019 with judging commencing at 06:30. Each competitor will receive a marked criteria sheet indicating their scores under each criteria. To be judged in accordance with the UK Floristry Judges Guild. Information on judging and marks allocation can be found on www.floristryjudgesguild.co.uk/competitions.htm The Mrs J H C Hodgson Trophy awarded to the winner of B1. The Bretherick Trophy awarded to the winner of B2. The Passion Flowers Trophy awarded to the winner of B3. The Ogden Trophy awarded to the Best in Show Floristry (B1 B5). The Student Trophy awarded to the overall winner of B4 & B5. AWARDS AND PRIZE MONEY A1 1 st prize 50; 2 nd 30; 3 rd 20. A2 A12 1 st prize 35; 2 nd 30; 3 rd 20. B1 B2 1 st prize 50; 2 nd 30; 3 rd 20. B3 B5 1 st prize 35; 2 nd 30; 3 rd 20. Exhibitors winning the Perpetual Challenge Trophies shall, at the time of receiving the trophy, sign a receipt for the same and an undertaking to return them to the Society not later than three weeks before the date of the next spring show. Prize monies will be paid via Bacs within one month following the show, using details provided on the entry form. PRESENTATION OF TROPHIES The presentation of trophies for floral art will take place in the Floral Pavilion at 16:00 on Sunday 28th April 2019. The Floral Pavilion Co-ordinator will endeavour to contact trophy winners beforehand in order that they may be present to collect their trophy. OTHER The Show Organisers decision is final in all cases. The North of England Horticultural Society rules take precedent over both NAFAS and the UK Floristry Judges Guild rules. Exhibits must be arranged by the competitor unless otherwise stated in the schedule. It is advisable to fix moveable objects firmly to the show bench. An empty niche spoils any show, please do not enter more classes than can be attempted. If you have entered but are unable to exhibit, please inform the Organisers as soon as possible. All drapes and backgrounds must be supported independently on stands to be provided by the competitor. Natural plant material must predominate over drapes and accessories. No artificial plant material may be used and the use of aerosol sprays within the marquee is not permitted. Careful arrangements are made for the protection of all exhibits, but the Society will not in any case hold itself responsible for the loss of any exhibit or accessory, or any damage they may sustain on their way to, from, or during the show. All items are required be insured by the competitor. Judges comment cards must be left on exhibits until the close of the show. All objections or complaints must be made in writing and signed and handed to the Floral Pavilion Co-ordinator on the first day of the show. The Show Organisers reserve the right to regulate the number of entries in any class. 3

Flower Arranging Classes Class Information (All measurements are approximate) Staging Type A1 Whatever the Weather (Flower Club Class) - Depict the forecast of your choice. An exhibit staged on a circular base 120cm in diameter raised 20cm from ground level and painted matt black emulsion. Maximum height 210cm from ground level. To be viewed and judged all round. Two exhibitors only per entry. A2 A3 A4 A5 A6 A7 A8 A9 Chain Reaction - Design to incorporate bike accessory/ies (not provided). An exhibit staged on a 1m square board raised 23cm from the ground on a square plinth, painted Johnstone s Ivory Spray, with a background of white fabric. Space allowed 100cm wide x 100cm deep, maximum height 210cm from ground level, to be viewed and judged from the front. Cake Topper Design a cake topper for an occasion state the occasion on a card. A small exhibit staged within an arched niche with divisions. The container may be made in advance. Space allowed 45cm wide x 45cm deep x 45cm high on staging raised 75cm from the ground and painted Johnstone s Ivory Spray. The Joyce Hemmingway Trophy awarded to winner. Tempting the Tastebuds - a miniature exhibit staged in a lighted niche. This exhibit may be submitted already prepared. Space allowed 10cm wide, x 10cm deep x 10cm high. Interior of niche painted cream emulsion, fascia painted matt black emulsion. The Glenwood Trophy awarded to winner. Obelisk - An exhibit staged on a stand 61cm in diameter x 75cm high, overall space allowed 80cm diameter, height unlimited. Staging painted Johnstone s Ivory Spray. To be viewed and judged all round. Floor placements not allowed. Scatter Cushion/s (Craft Class) this exhibit may be submitted already prepared. An exhibit staged in a niche. Guess Who s Coming to Dinner - An exhibit featuring a table setting for a dinner party, to include a glass & plate of your choice (not provided). Staged in a niche. The window measures 73cm wide x 90cm high and is raised 77cm from the ground. Frame painted black. Exhibit to be viewed from both sides. A hook will be provided centrally on the staging from which to hang the design. The Eleanor Shaw Trophy awarded to winner. The Season Awakens An exhibit staged within an arched niche with divisions. The Anne Fallas Trophy awarded to winner. Let s Talk Rubbish - An exhibit staged on a diagonal show bench raised 75cm from the ground. Space allowed, front edges 76cm wide x 76cm deep x 98cm high, length of diagonal 107.5cm. Backboard and staging painted Johnstone s Ivory Spray. To be viewed and judged from the diagonal point. The Sheila Matthews Trophy awarded to winner. Floristry Classes Class Information (All measurements are approximate) Staging Type B1 #Urban - For competitors with more than 3 years in the industry. Create a bridal design to be held in the hand. The design can be constructed in any way you choose. Fresh flowers and plant material must predominate. Accessories may be included. Competitors choosing to design a handtied bouquet should display in water in a vase. To be staged in a niche 60cm wide x 60cm x deep x 85cm high but exhibit may trail over the front of the staging if desired. The Mrs J H C Hodgson Trophy will be awarded to the winner. B2 B3 B4 B5 Pret a Porter For competitors with more than 3 years in the industry. Design a garment. Fresh flowers and plant material must predominate. Accessories may be included. To be staged on a standard size internal door 1981mm x 762mm (2 6 approx.) which will be provided and secured in position. Competitor to position the garment to your advantage and supply and attach the fixing. The Bretherick Trophy will be awarded to the winner. Spectaculars - Competition for floristry students and others who are at level 3 or below. Design an arrangement for an Opticians shop. Fresh flowers and plant material must predominate. Accessories may be included. To be staged in a niche 60cm wide x 60cm deep x 85cm high. Staging painted Johnstone s Ivory Spray. The Passion Flowers Trophy will be awarded to the winner. Upcycled Chic Competition for floristry students and others who are at level 3 or below. Design an arrangement in a container made from recycled materials. Fresh flowers and plant material must predominate. Accessories may be included. To be staged in a niche 60cm wide x 60cm deep x 85cm high. Staging painted Johnstone s Ivory Spray. Festival Competition for floristry students and others who are at level 2 or below. Design a handtie bouquet to be thrown at a band performing at an open air event. State name of band on a card. Fresh flowers and plant material must predominate. Accessories may be included. To be staged in a niche 60cm wide x 60cm deep x 85cm high. Staging Ivory Spray. 7
