The Vodafone Dmax 2013 Championships Round 4 19 th May 2013 Rye House The Vodafone Dmax Champs retur ed to Rye House Cir uit for Rou d of this years ha pio ships. Last year s first ever visit to Rye House featured on-off rain throughout the day but this year, despite the forecast, 114 drivers enjoyed sunshine and a dry circuit for the entire day. Heavy - Qualifying Vinod Hirani (VH) set the early qualifying pace for the Heavies with a 44.074, but was soon deposed as David Vincent (DV) popped in a 43.322. He was followed by Robert Bennett (RB) and James Griffith (JG) who were both within half a second of DV. The lap times began to tumble as the drivers found their rhythm with DV dropping his time to a 43.020 to increase his advantage only to have Vince Cogzell (VC) put in a 42.734 a take provisional pole. DV responded with a 42.592 as VC lowered his time to 42.543 leaving 0.049 seconds between the pair. Simon Ross (SR) was holding on in 3 rd, 0.323 seconds back with JG and VH rounding out the top 5 with 0.462 seconds between all 5 of them. DV dug deep and set a 42.433 and VC responded with a 42.481 which was not enough to take back provisional pole. The field were close with just 0.448 seconds covering the top 10 as the chequered flag was waved and DV managed to eke some more performance out of the kart on the final lap to take pole with a 42.217. VC was 2 nd, 0.264 adrift with JG, VH and RB completing the top 5. time lap 1 16 David Vincent 21 42.217 20 76.746 2 22 Vince Cogzell 21 0.264 42.481 14 76.269 3 6 James Griffith 20 0.281 42.498 13 76.239 4 42 Vinod Hirani 20 0.325 42.542 19 76.16 5 25 Robert Bennett 21 0.327 42.544 19 76.156 6 2 Michael Mckeegan 20 0.444 42.661 18 75.948 7 17 Jamie Pender 20 0.558 42.775 19 75.745 8 20 Simon Ross 18 0.56 42.777 13 75.742 9 48 Michael Ballinger 21 0.644 42.861 15 75.593 10 26 David Scott 20 0.664 42.881 18 75.558 11 44 Peter Hayes 21 0.703 42.92 20 75.489 12 8 Chris Carter 19 0.891 43.108 19 75.16 13 50 Gareth Holt 20 0.933 43.15 18 75.087 14 14 Chris Munro 15 0.939 43.156 13 75.076 15 11 Andrew Haine 13 1.097 43.314 13 74.803 16 49 Lewis Holt-Brown 19 1.157 43.374 19 74.699 17 7 Ian Brooks 19 1.222 43.439 19 74.587 18 40 Paul Hibbeard 20 1.231 43.448 12 74.572 19 12 Adam Daly 20 1.538 43.755 15 74.049 20 39 Steven Hussey 20 1.832 44.049 20 73.554 21 51 Sam Claughton 20 1.881 44.098 16 73.473 22 5 Andrew Sirkett 16 1.921 44.138 11 73.406 23 46 Dane Clark 19 2.505 44.722 15 72.448

Race David Vincent (DV) held onto the lead as the green flag was waved and was followed through the first sequence of corners by Robert Bennett (RB) who had a good start from 5 th. James Griffith (JG) was up to 3 rd with Vince Cogzell (VC) dropping down to 4 th. RB took the lead from DV on lap 2 with JG dropping the pole sitter down to 3 rd, setting up a 4 way fight for the lead. DV got back past JG and took VC and Vinod Hirani (VH) with him with the pass allowing RB to put some distance between himself and those behind him. DV soon started to come back at RB setting the fastest lap of the race so far with a 42.265 on lap 7 and a 42.054 on lap 8, decreasing the gap by half a second a lap and getting back onto the rear bumper of RB with VC and VH right behind him. This train of 4 was soon joined by JG making it a 5 way scrap for the top spots with just 1.044 seconds separating them. DV regained the lead 10 minutes into the race having got a good run out of the chicane and passed him on the brakes into the hairpin. Chris Carter (CC) had joined the train in 6 th as DV looked to try and get away from the chasing pack, setting a new fastest lap with a 42.044 and extending his lead to 1.4 seconds. A third of the way through the race and as the leaders started to make their way through the back markers, DV was able to increase his lead with a combination of his pace, those behind getting caught out by back markers and the chasing pack fighting amongst themselves. This meant that JG was now leading the group behind in 2 nd, with Simon Ross 3 rd, RB 4 th, CC 5 th, VC 6 th and VH 7 th ith the group o starti g to spread out. At the fro t DV s lead as out to 7.172 seconds but was not increasing as JG was matching his pace in 2 nd. At the halfway stage, JG had decreased the gap to DV to 3.749 seconds and had built a healthy lead of his own over SR in 3 rd. The main fight in the race was for 4 th as RB, VC, CC a d VH all follo ed i ea h other s heel tra ks, changing positions on more than one occasion, but allowing the podium positions to start slipping away. They gradually began to settle down with VC holding off those behind in 4 th, VH in 5 th, CC in 6 th and RB in 7 th. With a quarter of the race left, JG had closed the gap to DV and was now right with him and challenging for the lead. JG s hance nearly came when they went into a group of back markers coming out of the chicane, allowing JG to try on the inside of the hairpin, but not managing to make it stick. This dropped him back a couple of kart lengths but he regained the time within a couple of laps to e a k o DV s rear u per. As the pair approa hed a other group of back markers, DV was caught out at the hairpin and JG got ahead as they exited the first hairpin and approached the second. JG proceeded to pull away by a few tenths of a second a lap from DV and soon had a lead of 1.4 seconds with 5 minutes of the race left to run. He built on this lead over the remainder of the race and took the chequered flag, 3.482 seconds clear of DV in 2 nd. SR completed the podium and further 3 seconds behind with VC and RB completing the top 5. time lap 1 6 James Griffith 85 41.894 78 77.338 2 16 David Vincent 85 3.482 41.924 52 77.283

CH soon took pole from TK however, posting a time of

This advantage was increased when TK put in a 41.403 only to have CH to go back on top with a 41.200. JB was just 0.273 seconds adrift in 3 rd with Andrew Collins (AC) and Ben Leslie (BL) completing the top 5, just 0.775 seconds off of pole. AC move up into 3 rd with 5 minutes to spare with a time of 41.294 meaning the top 3 were separated by 0.061 seconds. Jane Gibbons (JG) posted a 41.697 with a minute remaining to go provisionally 5 th as TK popped in a time of 41.128 on his final lap giving him pole by 0.072 seconds from CH in 2 nd. The drivers behind quickly started to put some distance between themselves with James Baldwin (JB) running in 3 rd ahead of Andrew Collins (AC) and Paul Cox (PC). CH took the lead from TK after just a couple of laps, passing TK through the long turn 1. TK hung onto the rear of CH and the pair were soon joined by JB to make it a leading trio. CH was 1.403 seconds clear of TK after the first 15 minutes with JB a further 2 seconds back in 3 rd. AC was holding onto 4 th, albeit 5.7 seconds behind JB with PC just 0.1 seconds behind him in 5 th. TK was starting to edge closer to CH at the rate of 0.2 seconds a lap and setting a new fastest lap with a 40.963 with 40 minutes of the race still to run. TK s harge to ards CH peaked soo after ards a d the ra e started to s i g a k i CH s fa our as he posted a new fastest lap with a 40.939 at the halfway stage. PC had managed to get ahead of AC to take 4 th and had pulled away with an advantage of 8 seconds over AC who was running in a comfortable 5 th.

As the race approached the final quarter, CH was still leading, but only by 1.221 seconds after 45 minutes of racing ahead of TK who was holding of JB, 0.254 seconds behind in 3 rd. PC was still in 4 th and looking comfortable ahead of Steve Moody (SM) who had made his way up to 5 th after AC had to make a pit stop. As TK and JB made their way through the chicane on lap 69, JB got a better run out of the corner approaching the hairpin and passed TK on the brakes. TK tried to come back at the following hairpin, but JB managed to hold on around the outside and secured 2 nd place. With 5 minutes of the race left to run, TK got a run on JB out of the final corner and dived passed JB into the long turn 1 to regain 2 nd but JB was not about to give up and hung onto the back of TK. 3 laps later, JB came out of the first hairpin well but was on the outside for the second hairpin that followed. He was just ahead as the pair reached the braking zone and held on around the outside and took the place through the fast left, right at Pylon. TK came back at JB through Pylon a lap later and defended for the rest of the race to hold off JB. CH took the win by 6.423 seconds ahead of TK in 2 nd with JB taking the final spot on the podium, just 0.163 seconds behind TK. Inters - Qualifying The Inters qualifying started off under yellow conditions as Andrew Bilecki (AB) got caught out at the penultimate corner and stopped just to the side of the track. Once the yellow was cleared, it was Adam Nakar (AN) who was sat on provisional pole with a 42.631. This was short lived however as the rest of the field got up to with Dave Clarke (DC) putting in a lap of 42.232, only to have it beaten by Andrew Knap (AK) with a 41.992. The lap times continued to drop with DC, AK, James Pratt (JP) Joe Holmes (JH) and AN changing positions within the top 5. The full course yellow came out with 5 minutes remaining with JH on pole with a time of 41.930, DC was sitting in 2 nd just 0.006 seconds off and AK in 3 rd, 0.062 seconds adrift of pole.
