RULES REGARDING CONDUCT OF VARIOUS EVENTS OF YOUTH FESTIVAL Music Section i) Indian Classical Vocal Solo Each participating college / institute / department can depute only 1 student participant, either for Hindustani or Karnataki style. The duration of the performance is minimum 8 and maximum 10 minutes for any style of performance. The computation of time shall start immediately after the final announcement by the Maximum 2 accompanists will be allowed. The singer may use an instrument such as Tanpura, Electronic Tanpura or Swarmandal. Film songs based on classical style are not allowed under this event. Three copies of the details regarding Raag, Taal and Bandish written in Marathi or English, must be submitted at the time of registration on the day of competition. ii) iii) Indian Classical Instrumental Percussion (Taalvadya) Solo Each participating college / institute / department can depute only 1 student participant, either for Hindustani or Karnataki style. The duration of the performance is minimum 8 and maximum 10 minutes for any style of performance. The total duration of the performance including both the songs is minimum 8 and maximum 10 minutes. The accompanists may use synthesizer or any other electronic instrument/gadget during the performance. ix) Folk Orchestra Each participating college / institute / department can depute only one team having minimum 6 and maximum 9 student participants. Maximum 3 accompanists will be allowed who should be in different dress code from other than student participants so that they could be easily identified. Accompanists will sit/stand separately from the participants and will not lead the team. The duration of the performance is minimum 8 and maximum 10 minutes. The song / natyapad should be of natyageet style, any other type of song (Ovi or Bhavgeet) will not be considered as natyageet. The duration of the performance is minimum 5 and maximum 7 minutes for any style of performance. The computation of time shall start immediately after the final announcement by the Maximum 2 accompanists will be allowed. The singer may use an instrument such as Tanpura, Electronic Tanpura or Swarmandal. Natyapad in film songs may be allowed in this event. Three copies of the songs with their meaning written in Marathi or English (for the songs in the language other than Marathi or Hindi) must be submitted at the time of registration on the day of competition. xi) Qawwali Each participating college / institute / department can depute only one team having minimum 8 and maximum 10 student participants. Maximum 3 accompanists are allowed. However, the student participants also may play an instrument while singing. Accompanists will sit/stand separately from the participants and will not lead the team. The duration of the performance is minimum 12 and maximum 15 minutes. The computation of time shall start immediately after the final announcement by the The time limit does not include time required for setting/tuning of instruments. Three copies of the songs with their meaning written in Marathi or English (for the songs in the language other than Marathi or Hindi) must be submitted at the time of registration on the day of competition. Dance Section i) Indian Classical Dance Each participating college / institute / department can depute only 1 student participant performing in one of the styles of Indian classical dance from the following namely: Kathak, Bharatnatyam, Mohinyattam, Kathakali, Odissy, Manipuri, Kuchipudi. The total duration of performance is minimum 12 and maximum 15 minutes. The computation of time shall start immediately after the final announcement by the Maximum 3 accompanists will be allowed which include singers, instrumentalists, light curtain operators, etc. For Selection Round sound track or recorded music may be allowed but for Final Round live accompaniment is compulsory. However live accompaniment will be given due credit at Selection Round. Classical style dances in Films are not allowed in this event. Three copies of a brief note on the description of dance story involved in accompanying song, if any, with its meaning must be submitted either in Marathi or in English at the time of registration on the day of competition. ii) Indian Folk Dance Each participating college / institute / department can depute a single group having minimum 8 and maximum 10 student participants. The total duration of dance performance is minimum 8 and maximum 10 minutes. The computation of time shall start as soon as music/announcement starts or curtain is fully open, whichever is earlier. The dance should either be a tribal or a folk and it should not be a classical dance. Maximum 5 accompanists/back-stage artists/helpers will be allowed. It is the responsibility of the participating college / institute / department to remove their sets, property, etc. within five minutes after their performance. Live accompaniment will be given due credit. Three copies of a brief note either in Marathi or in English giving details of the type/style of dance and the text meaning of the song, if any, should be submitted at the time of registration on the day of competition. iv) Debate Group B (Hindi or English) Each participating college / institute / department can depute only 2 student participants. The proposition for the debate will be announced at least one week before the date of the competition. First student debater will speak FOR the proposition and the second debater AGAINST the proposition. Each debater will be allowed to speak for minimum 4 and maximum 5 minutes. Both debaters have to present their proposition in Hindi or English language only. However both may present in same language or different. v) Story Writing Group A (Marathi) Each participating college / institute / department can depute only 1 student The total duration will be 2 hours, during which the participant shall write Story under the supervision of the officials. The subject for Story Writing will be announced at the time of competition / event. The participating student has to write a story in Marathi language only. Writing sheets will be provided by the University. Other materials such as pen, pencil etc., should be arranged by the participants themselves. No participant is allowed to carry any written or printed material at the time of competition / event. vi) Story Writing Group B (Hindi or English) Each participating college / institute / department can depute only 1 student The total duration will be 2 hours, during which the participant shall write Story under the supervision of the officials. The subject for Story Writing will be announced at the time of competition / event. The participating student has to write a story in Hindi or English language. Writing sheets will be provided by the University. Other materials such as pen, pencil etc., should be arranged by the participants themselves. No participant is allowed to carry any written or printed material at the time of competition / event. Page 8 of 22

vii) Quiz Each College can depute a team of 3 student participants only. The competition will be conducted in written form at Zonal/District Level Cultural Youth Festival (Selection Round) and oral and audio visual form at University Level Youth Festival (Final Round). At the selection round the participating team has to write the answers of objective type of questions. The medium of all these questions will be English only. Total 15 minutes will be given to solve the objective type of questions. From the Selection Round maximum 6 teams will be selected on merit for the Final Round. The final will be oral and it includes audio-visual format. The specific rules for the final round, regarding evaluation system, time to replay a particular question and the type of rounds shall be announced by the refry before the commencement of the competition / event. viii) Story Telling Group A (Marathi) Each participating college / institute / department can depute only 1 student The total duration of performance is minimum 5 and maximum 7 minutes. The computation of time shall start immediately after the final announcement by the The story to be presented by the student participant can be authentic, adapted or originally written. The participating student should present the story only in Marathi language. They may present the story partially or completely with any Marathi dialects or they may present some part/dialogues in Marathi dialects as per the requirement of the story. It should not be on sensitive issues such as religious sentiment, stereotyping, politics, etc. Use of background music, properties and written materials are not allowed during the performance. Three copies of a Script of the story should be submitted at the time of registration on the day of competition. ix) Story Telling Group B (Hindi or English) Each participating college / institute / department can depute only 1 student Page 9 of 22

Theatre Section i) One- Act-Play Group A (Marathi) Each participating college / institute / department can depute a single team having minimum 2 and maximum 9 student participants. The competition will be held in Marathi language only. The total duration of performance is minimum 25 and maximum 30 minutes. The computation of time shall start as soon as the announcement starts or the curtain is fully open, whichever is earliest. For setting and dismantling the set / light arrangements a time period of 10 minutes before the play and 5 minutes after the play, shall be granted. The play can be in prose or in verse. No box sets shall be allowed. Maximum 3 accompanists / back stage artists / workers / helpers shall be allowed in this event. It will be solely the responsibility of the participating college / institute / department to see that the script is duly censored. Obtaining all sorts of required permission, censor certificates, etc., shall be the responsibility of the participating college / institute / department. No play shall be repeated by same college in consecutive Youth Festivals. Five spot lights and general make-up facilities may normally be provided by the University, wherever available. Additional lights, property and special make-up should be arranged by the participants themselves at their own cost and risk. Three copies of script, three copies of theme of the scripts explained in Marathi and three copies of printouts of forms of role played must be submitted at the time of registration on the day of competition. ii) One-Act-Play Group C (Other than Marathi) Each participating college / institute / department can depute a single team having minimum 2 and maximum 9 student participants. The competition will be held in any Regional / Official language of India other than Marathi. The total duration of performance is minimum 25 and maximum 30 minutes. The computation of time shall start as soon as the announcement starts or the curtain is fully open, whichever is earliest. The total duration of performance is minimum 5 and maximum 7 minutes. The computation of time shall start immediately after the final announcement by the Costumes/make-up is allowed. However, only acting skills will be adjudged for the prize. Fine Art Section i) On the Spot Painting Each participating college / institute / department can depute only 1 student The competition will be conducted On the Spot and the participants are required to paint on the subject given by the panel of judges, at the time of competition. The total duration for completing the painting shall not exceed 2 hours and 30 minutes. The size of the paper shall be half imperial size drawing paper i.e. 22 inches in length and 15 inches in breadth. Painting should be done either in water colours or in poster colours only. Drawing paper will be provided by the University. Other required material should be arranged by the participants themselves. ii) iii) Collage Each participating college / institute / department can depute only 1 student The competition will be conducted On the Spot and the participants are required to do the collage on the subject given by the panel of judges, at the time of competition. The total duration for completing the painting shall not exceed 2 hours and 30 minutes. The paper and magazines provided by the University should be used for making of collage. However, the participants should bring their own pair of scissors, gum and other required material. Poster Making Each participating college / institute / department can depute only 1 student The competition will be conducted On the Spot and the participants are required to make a poster on the subject given by the panel of judges, at the time of competition. The total duration for completing the painting shall not exceed 2 hours and 30 minutes. Drawing paper will be provided by the University. vii) Mehendi Designing Each participating college / institute / department can depute only 1 student The participant has to draw the Mehendi on palmer side of both hands of the model. The model should be the student of the same college. The Mehendi must be extended to the palmer side forearm with minimum six inch length. The total duration for completing the painting shall not exceed 2 hours. The participant has to bring its own Mehendi and other materials required for it. Use of hand print, any kind of mold and any kind of decorative material is not allowed. The due credit will be given on originality, creativity, decorative art with aesthetic sense. viii) Spot Photography Each participating college / institute / department can depute only 1 student The participant has to bring his/her own digital camera. The digital camera should have a memory card which will be formatted by the judges before the commencement of the contest. The total duration for completing the painting shall not exceed 2 hours and 30 minutes. The participant has to produce only best 5 photographs on the theme announced on the spot by judges. No mixing, matching or morphing of photographs will be permitted. Software such as Photoshop etc. for enhancing images will not be permitted. The organizers will have all rights for the use of these pictures as and when they deem it. Digital images are evaluated on the basis of impact, composition, technical quality, and suitability for the specific theme. The additional instructions will be announced at the time of competition. ix) Installation Each participating college / institute / department can depute a single team having minimum 3 and maximum 4 student participants. Participants have to install or create an atmosphere related with the subject or title or theme to be announced on the spot by judges. Participants have to create only one installation whose size must not be bigger than 5 feet x 5 feet x 5 feet. The total duration for completing the painting shall not exceed 2 hours and 30 minutes. Participants can use all the material which they use in other art compositions like cartooning, painting, rangoli, poster, collage and clay modeling. Participants can use waste material also which is available in the surroundings or can take any material from outside also. Participants are not allowed to use any already composed images or forms available in the market. They should compose or create their own image with the raw material. Page 18 of 22

Short Film Making Each participating college / institute / department can submit a single Short Film. It will be solely the responsibility of the participating college / institute / department to take the censor certificate of the short film from concerned authorities. The competition is based on the concept of film hence no any documentary will be accepted. The contents / dialogues / lyrics / music of the film should not hurt the feelings of any person, society, religion, etc. Duration of the films shall not be more than seven minutes including the beginning and end credits. Films exceeding this time limit are liable to be rejected. The minimum length should be thirty seconds including credits. The film should have been shot / completed after July 31, 2017. The short films may be in any regional language, but must be subtitled in English. Films submitted previously to any other competition/festival will not be considered for this competition / festival. If found later, will be disqualified for the contest / prize withheld. The films may be shot in MPEG4 or AVI format. The recommended ratios are: 16:9 / 16:9 Full Height Anamorphic in DV / HDV. The participating students have to perform all Lead / Side Roles in the Short Film. Students may perform the Direction, Script Writing, Dialogue Writing, Lyrics, Music Direction, Camera Shooting, Light, Art Direction, Editing, etc. or they can invite other persons for the same. But due credit will be given if students performed Direction, Script Writing, Dialogue Writing, Lyrics, Music Direction, Camera Shooting, Light, Art Direction, Editing, etc. The Department of Students Development, University of Mumbai reserves the non-exclusive rights to screen the film at any level and its non-commercial presentation. Also it reserves the right send the entry of the film to any national / international film festival / competition. The Department of Students Development, University of Mumbai shall not be held responsible for any unauthorized use of the content by any third party and Department of Students Development, University of Mumbai does not guarantee the posting of any content. Films once selected and submitted for final screening will not be allowed to be withdrawn under any circumstances. All films are judged equally based on: Content Originality (Quality of storyline, and script), Production (Camera work, lighting and shot composition), Post-Production (Editing, transitions, pacing, continuity, and flow), Image (Focus, colour, and lighting) and Sound Quality (Clarity, consistency of audio levels, and lack of noise). Jackpot Only student coordinator/s (1 male and 1 female from Co-education College or 2 girl students from Women s College) of the respective contingent of the college / institute / department is/are eligible, at their option, to participate in the event. Participants will be adjudged under the following components- Personality Contest Cultural Performance Physical Endurance / Skill Intelligence Quotient (IQ) and General Awareness Oratory (Public Speaking / Compeering) Leadership Academic Performance Assessment of Bio-data Medical Fitness Psychological Testing Participants of this event are expected to attend the meeting of student co-ordinators communicated from time to time. The maximum marks to be assigned in each of the components are 10 which will be converted into a ten point scale after dividing by ten. Page 20 of 22

Versatility Contest The Versatility Contest was introduced, with a view to select the most versatile artist of the University portraying multidimensional talents in the various fields of art and culture. The brief outline of this competition is likely to be as follows- Each college / institute / department can depute 1 student for the event / competition. In addition, all the winners at Inter-Collegiate / Institute / Department Cultural Youth Festival (Final Round) shall be deemed to be eligible for the competition without filling an entry form, if they decide so. Under the circumstances, there shall be no restriction on the number of participants from any of the colleges / institutes / departments who are qualified for participation through this category. Further, it shall be compulsory for all the prize winners seeking first and second places in the events in which AIU conducts the Inter-University competitions to make themselves available for selection trials which shall be clubbed with this competition of versatility. Similarly, the performance of the students at Zonal and National level will also be considered. This competition shall be conducted at the end of the inter-collegiate Cultural competitions and shall be shown in the time-table.
