HOSES: Exhibitors are advised to provide own hoses. 12.7mm fittings (1/2 inch). JUNIOR CHAMPIONS will be awarded to each breed provided that a minimum 15 head are exhibited and there is competition. Points will be allocated but not counted unless required to separate equal scores in Aggregate Awards. STRAW: One small square bale of bedding straw per head will be provided. If you require extra straw, please bring your own. FEED CONTAINERS: Exhibitors who are part of the MAP program must have feed containers, the top to be 450mm above ground level. BULLS: All bulls exhibited must be led into the Showgrounds and led out for the Judge s inspection. Non-compliance with this condition will cause the animal to be disqualified. All led steers must be tractable. VICTORIAN CATTLE a) All Victorian cattle are eligible for entry without special testing provided they are not from a herd located on a property under quarantine restrictions for Bovine Tuberculosis or Brucellosis. JOHNES DISEASE A) A current National Cattle Health Statement is to accompany entry forms. Please download from the cattle section of the Ballarat Show website or contact the Show Office. B) All exhibitors must provide the PIC number for the property where the show entries are located. C) All cattle must be ear tagged with an NLIS ear tag. They will be scanned during the show. PESTIVIRUS All BEEF cattle being shown must be tested Pestivirus free by an authorised veterinary laboratory or veterinary officer. Please mark appropriate boxes on the National Cattle Health Statement. All male exhibits of beef and dual purpose cattle born on or before the 10 November 2015 shall be rung through the nose and at all times, shall be led by such ring. If, in the opinion of the Stewards or Society s officials, any bull is considered unsafe, such bull shall be placed under such control as directed by the Stewards or Society s officials. Each exhibitor is required to see that each of their exhibits is securely tethered in its stall. All exhibitors of beef cattle must provide neck straps or neck ropes, as well as halters for tethering their cattle. Every poll bull and every wholly or partially dehorned bull entered in beef and dual purpose sections must be securely tethered by an effective headstall in addition to a nose ring or neck strap or neck rope. If, in the opinion of the Senior Steward, any exhibits of stock are deemed to be dangerous, the owner of such exhibit or exhibits shall immediately, upon notice to that effect, remove such exhibit or exhibits from the Society s grounds. Clipping Frames: there will be a maximum of four (4) clipping frames allowed in the BEEF shed at a cost of $50 per frame space. Allocation of the frames will be on a first in basis per entry forms received. They are to be used by the owner and at the owner s risk. Only winners of ordinary classes are eligible to compete for a Championship. Championship Sashes will be awarded for each Breed. The Society reserves the right to combine or delete classes should entries be insufficient. CLASSES will be available for the Feature Show and those Breeds which entered in the previous year s competition; however, competition is open to all registered Breeds. Group of Three (both - owned by Exhibitor) - Excluding Feature shows. PRIZEMONEY: All prizemoney can be collected at the main office after 1pm on Saturday 12th November LUNCH will be available in the Cattle Pavilion Saturday and Sunday. Tea and coffee is available from Friday provided by Meg Barry.

EXHIBITORS ARE ENCOURAGED TO BRING EXHIBITS INTO THE PAVILION FROM 1PM THURSDAY AND MAY LEAVE EXHIBITS OVER FOR DISPLAY ON SUNDAY. (Exhibit animals may be relocated within the Pavilion). All beef cattle not staying over to Sunday to be removed from shed by 2pm on Saturday to enable cleaning of shed and clean straw to be laid for dairy to enter the shed from 3pm. JUNIOR HANDLERS COMPETITION JUDGED FRIDAY 11 NOVEMBER AT 2.30PM Entry is free. Entry can be made on the entry form prior to the show, or by reporting to Meg Barry on the day of showing. Judging to commence at 2.30pm, prior to the bull and heifer classic classes. Judging for dairy sections of Junior handlers will be on Sunday 13 November at the conclusion of interbreed judging. JUDGING: To be judged taking into account the presentation, handling and general stockmanship. Eligibilty for entry will be determined by the Stewards. Age of Parader must be 8 years & over as of the day of the Show. Parader must be attired in suitable clothing including solid shoes or boots. Handler to lead a heifer only under 2 years (as of the day of the Show). Handlers Animal must be eligible for breed registration with their respective breed Society or entered in an ordinary class with details of exhibit on the respective Show/event entry form for insurance purposes. The judge may ask the Parader to swap animals if required. Adult or Steward assistance is acceptable for Parader under 12 years. Competitions can be split into several age groups depending on the number of entries and level of experience. The committee reserves the right to limit the number of entries per exhibitor per class. JUNIOR JUDGING COMPETITION Beef Judged FRIDAY 11 November, at 7pm. Entry is free, and can be submitted at time of cattle entries, otherwise competitors are to report to the Chief Cattle Steward at the Cattle Pavilion on Friday 11 November (beef) to Meg Barry at the Cattle Pavilion by 1.30pm. or on Sunday 12 November (dairy). Sashes will be provided for all place getters. This competition is conducted by the Member Societies of the Midlands Group of the Victorian Agricultural Societies Association, in conjunction with VAS Ltd. The Ballarat Winner will be eligible to compete at the State Final to be held at the Royal Melbourne Show in 2017. 2016 Ballarat Family Show 11

2016 Ballarat Family Show CATTLE 12 A BAPS perpetual trophy in memory of the late Mr Peter Schembri will be awarded to the winners of the under 15 years Junior Handler and Junior Judge Competitions (Beef section only). CONDITIONS: 1. Competitors must be under the age of 25 years on the day of competition at the Ballarat Show. 2. Competitors must undertake that if placed first or second they will compete at higher levels until eliminated. 3. Not less than three animals of one breed will be provided for judging, and such animals will be placed in order 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc by the Competitor in accordance with points awarded. Five animals will be provided at State and National levels. 4. Each Competitor will be allowed equal time (15 minutes suggested) and will be provided with a card on which he or she will indicate the number of points he or she awarded to each animal. Cow or Heifer entered as In Milk can be transferred to In Calf if she has not calved prior to Judging Day and vice versa. The registered number and name of animal must be stated on the entry form. NOTE: ALL AGES AS AT IST JAN EACH YEAR. All Cattle exhibited must be registered with their respective Breed Society or Association. Competition is open to all Registered Breeds. Ribbons will be presented but prize money will be not be paid unless a minimum of five animals are exhibited by a given breed. Entries are invited in the breeds and sections as indicated in the schedule. Prize money will be awarded for each section 1st $15, 2nd $7 Groups $10, pending sponsorship in kind, unless otherwise specified.
