Will Wade Head Coach @wwadelsu 2nd Year at LSU 6th Year as a Head Coach After laying a new foundation for the future of LSU basketball in Year 1, Will Wade enters his second year as head coach of the Tigers. The first night Wade led the Tigers onto the floor of the Maravich Center was a night that signaled a new dawn for the storied program. There had been plenty of excitement prior to the opening game as the first-year coach went all over the state speaking to groups about basketball. But would people back that up by showing for the opening game? They did to the tune of 11,856 at the Maravich Center, the largest opening night crowd since the start of Shaquille O Neal s final season of play at LSU in 1991-92. It was the first of 18 wins that would lead LSU back to postseason play for the first-time since 2015 and produce the first postseason NIT win in Baton Rouge. Wade became just the second coach in school history to take his first LSU team to postseason play. The first-year coach delivered on what he promised a team that would play hard, would represent the University well and players committed to building the program. Wade and an experienced coaching staff put together a recruiting class that included two five-star players and two four-star players that helped the Tigers finish with the No. 3 recruiting class in the country leading into the 2018-19 season. That new foundation for the future began on March 20, 2017, when Frank William Will Wade was named the 22nd head men s basketball coach at LSU. He arrived at LSU after a stellar two-year stint as the head coach at Virginia Commonwealth University with four years of very successful experience as a head basketball coach. Wade was introduced to LSU fans at a special media event held in the middle of the LSU Student Union. Wade told the media and a large contingent of LSU students: I am so excited about the opportunity to lead this program and LSU Basketball back to the top of the SEC and back to regular, consistent NCAA Tournament appearances. We have been to four Final Fours. We have been to 20 NCAA Tournaments. We have 10 SEC Championships, and we are going to add to all three of those categories over our tenure here. Prior to his appointment at LSU, the native of Nashville, Tenn., directed VCU to a 51-20 record and two NCAA Tournament appearances. The 2016 Rams advanced to the second round of the tournament, defeating Oregon State before losing to Oklahoma. In 2017, VCU lost to St. Mary s in the first round of the 2017 tourney. Before becoming the head coach at VCU, Wade served as the head coach at Chattanooga for the 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons. Wade s coaching start came at Clemson where he served as director of Basketball THE WADE RECORD Operations (2006-07) and Graduate Assistant (2005-06) after four seasons as a student manager (2002-05). In eight years as an assistant coach at Clemson (2005-07), Harvard (2007-09) and VCU (2009-13), the teams had a record of 177-97 with six postseason appearances (2005-13). Wade is married to the former Lauren Deason, and the couple has one daughter, Caroline Elizabeth. /----OVERALL---/ THE WADE FILE Birthdate: Nov. 26, 1982 Age: 35 Hometown: Nashville, Tennessee High School: Franklin Road Academy College: Clemson, 2005 Wife: Lauren Deason Child: Caroline Elizabeth COACHING EXPERIENCE 2005-06 - Clemson, Graduate Assistant 2006-07 - Clemson, Director of Operations 2007-09 - Harvard, Assistant Coach 2009-13 - VCU, Assistant Coach 2013-15 -UT-Chattanooga, Head Coach 2015-17 - VCU, Head Coach March 22, 2017 - LSU, Head Coach /---CONF.---/ YEAR SCHOOL W-L PCT. LAST GAME: HOUSTON 82, LSU 76 (HOUSTON, TEXAS, 12/12/18) The Tigers were unable to keep the game in their control in the second half of play, losing a 15-point lead in falling to the Cougars at the Fertitta Center Wednesday night. LSU led by 10 at the half and 15 after the first minute of the second half, but a 10-minute field goal drought allowed the Cougars to get back in the game and ultimately take the lead. Ja vonte Smart had 18 points to lead LSU in the contest with Naz Reid getting 13, Marlon Taylor 11 and Tremont Waters 10. Skylar Mays had seven points, stopping his run of consecutive double figure scoring games at seven. The Tigers shot just 36.8 percent for the game, their lowest shooting percentage of the season (by some 43 points) and their 21 field goals was the lowest by six. LSU shot just 26.9 percent in the second half, making just 7-of-26 shots and 1-of-12 from the arc. The game was a constant parade to the free throw line for both teams as 51 fouls were called with both teams shooting 38 free throws (LSU made 29, Houston 26). As in the loss to Florida State in Orlando (11/23), the Tigers were taken on the boards to the tune of 48-35 with an 18-12 difference in offensive rebounds. Houston also took more advantage of turnovers, getting a 20-9 advantage in points off miscues and 15-6 on second chance points. 2018-19 LSU MEN S BASKETBALL

30 PERCENT SHOOTING Although it was LSU in the 30 percentile this past game, the Tigers have held five-of-the-lastseven opponents under 40 percent from the field. Vs. Louisiana Tech 24-of-61, 39.3% Vs. Charleston 18-of-53, 34.0% Vs. Florida State 29-of-76, 38.2% Vs. Grambling 20-of-51, 39.2% Vs. UIW 15-of-47, 31.9% Despite the Wednesday numbers, LSU is shooting 63 points better from the field this season than opponents (48.5 to 42.2) and has made 44 more field goals in just 15 more attempts. PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE This Wednesday-Saturday set of games at Houston and in Las Vegas against Saint Mary s will be the last tightly scheduled games until conference play begins on Jan. 8. In fact the two games are the only tightly scheduled games on the Tigers schedule since the AdvoCare Invitational ended on Nov. 25 with three games in four days. LSU played its first seven games in the first 20 days of the season. After the AdvoCare event, LSU had a week to practice before a Dec. 1 game against Grambling and then, while battling final exams, had plenty of time to practice before the Dec. 9 game against Incarnate Word. Following Saturday s game, LSU will leave back to Baton Rouge and begin preparation for a Friday, Dec. 21 game with now undefeated Furman. After that, the Tigers host ULM on Dec. 28 before a lengthy break to prepare for the home opener of SEC play on Jan. 8 against Alabama. IT S NOT RPI BUT NET The tool that the NCAA selection committee will use to help determine the tournament field is called the NET (NCAA Evaluation Tool), which relies on game results, strength of schedule, game location, scoring margin (capped at 10 points), net offensive and defensive efficiency and the quality of wins and losses. In very early and still processing NET showings through Wednesday, LSU is at No. 40, with its 7-3 record. LSU is 0-2 in quadrant 1 play (home 1-30, neutral 1-50, away 1-75) and 0-1 in quadrant 2 wins (home 31-75, neutral 51-100, away 76-135). Four of LSU s wins are in quadrant 3 and three in quadrant 4. LSU s opponent s schedule NET is 128 and that is ranked 33rd best in Division I. LSU NOW AT 13 STRAIGHT WINS IN THE MARAVICH CENTER The win over UIW on Dec. 9 gave LSU 13 consecutive wins in the Maravich Center dating back to the final seven home games of a year ago. The Tigers won six regular season SEC home games to conclude the 2017-18 regular season and the NIT game with UL-Lafayette. The present 13-game win streak is tied for the eighth longest in Maravich Center history and the longest since LSU won 17 straight at the end of the 2007-08 and start of 2008-09 seasons A win Sunday will give LSU a tie for the eighth longest win streak in the building: 1 23 15 games 1980-81 season; First 8 games 1981-82 season 2 18 Last 8 games 1983-84 season; First 10 games 1984-85 season 18 Last 7 games 1989-90 season; First 11 games 1990-91 season 4 17 Last 3 games 2007-08 season; First 14 games 2008-09 season 5 16 Last 4 games 1991-92 season; First 12 games 1992-93 season 6 14 Last game 1977-78 season; First 13 games 1978-79 season 14 Last 7 games 1999-00 season; First 7 games 2000-01 season 8 13 Last 7 games 2017-18 season; First 6 games 2018-19 season 13 Last 6 games 1972-73 season; First 7 games 1973-74 season 13 Last 5 games 2002-03 season; First 8 games 2003-04 season 13 Last 11 games 2004-05; First 2 games 2005-06 season The Tigers have been playing in the Maravich Center, originally the LSU Assembly Center, since Jan. 3, 1972. NEUTRAL COURTS The game against Saint Mary s will be considered a neutral court contest in Las Vegas, the fourth LSU has played this year after three games last month in the AdvoCare Classic in Orlando. There the Tigers defeated College of Charleston, 67-55, before losing to Florida State, 79-76 in overtime, and 90-77 to Oklahoma State. LSU is 147-166 all-time in neutral court games. LSU was 1-3 last year. STEALS ARE GOOD IN BASKETBALL LSU has some very good steal numbers in the first 10 games with 96 total (9.6 spg), which the total is ranked 12th in the country and first in the league and the per game average is ranked 12th in the NCAA and second in the league. LSU s Tremont Waters is ranked first in the league and third in the nation at 3.0 steals per game while Skylar Mays and Ja vonte Smart are both seventh in the league at 1.70 per game. Waters total steals of 30 is ranked first in the league and third in the nation, while Mays and Smart are both fifth in the SEC (17). LSU averaged 7.6 steals per game a year ago. LSU OVER 50 PERCENT The Tigers posted a 55.7 percent shooting percentage against UIW (12/9), the fifth time this season that LSU has shot at least 50 percent for a game: UNCG 30-of-54 55.6% Memphis 34-of-63 54.0% Charleston 27-of-52 51.9% Florida State 27-of-52 51.9% UIW 34-of-61 55.7% LSU is 4-1 this year when shooting 50 percent or better, 16-1 in the Will Wade era. That one loss came in the Florida State game (11/23), stopping a 16-game winning streak dating back to once at the end of the 2016-17 season when LSU shot 50 percent or better. LSU is 71-7 since the 2007-08 season when shooting 50 percent or better from the floor. The 34 field goals LSU made against UIW (12/9) was T5 in the Will Wade era at LSU. SHOOTING THE THREE At Houston, the three-ball would not be much of a factor as the teams combined to hit a total of nine five by LSU (26 attempts) and four by Houston (20 attempts). Against Grambling (12/1), the Tigers were 9-of-21 or 42.9 percent, the second best single-game percentage of the season, topped only by the 9-of-18 (50%) shooting in the second game of the season against UNCG. Versus UIW (12/9), the Tigers hit double figures in threes for the second time this season: Vs. Florida State 11-of-26 42.3% Vs. UIW 10-of-26 38.5% LSU is 12th in the SEC in three-point percentage (75-of-230, 326%). Opponents have made six more three-pointers than the Tigers so far this season (81-of-221, 36.7%). LSU is 12th in the SEC in three-point field goal defense and accordingly only 286 nationally. Last season, LSU made a school record 268 treys in 33 games (268-744) and shot 34.6 percent from the arc. Before UIW shot just 21.4 percent from the arc (3-of-14) and Houston went 4-of-20, the two previous opponents -- Oklahoma State (11/25) and Grambling (12/1) combined to make 13-of-23 from the arc. Three opponents UNCG (19), Memphis (10) and Louisiana Tech (11) recorded double digit threepoint make games. INSIDE THE ARC LSU NINTH IN DI LSU continues to lead the SEC and is No. 9 in the country in shooting percentage inside the arc at 58.5 percent. The Tigers shot 56 percent inside the arc a year ago. Second in the SEC in two-point percentage is Mississippi at No. 24 at 57.1 percent. FREE THROWS In a game with lots of free throws such as the Houston game, making them is important and to that end the Tigers were the better of the two teams, making 29-of-38 or 76.3 percent, including 16-of-18 in the second half (88.9 percent). The top three free throw shooting games of Will Wade s tenure at LSU have all come in the first part of the 2018-19 season; 29 makes at Houston (12/12), 28 vs. UNCG (11/9) and 24 against Southeastern (11/6). In the UNCG game, the Tigers hit 22 in a row at the free throw line to start the game before missing. In four-of-the-last-six games, opponents have made more free throws than the Tigers: Vs. Charleston LSU 7-of-10; Opponents 14-of-22 Vs. Florida State LSU 11-of-13; Opponents 12-of-17 2018-19 LSU MEN S BASKETBALL

Vs. Oklahoma State LSU 12-of-20; Opponents 20-of-25 Vs. UIW LSU 13-of-17; Opponents 17-of-23 For the season, LSU is 162-of-219 or 74 percent The opponents for the season are 139-of-203 or 68.5 percent. LSU is +23 on makes and +16 on attempts. LSU is fourth in the league in free throw percentage and No. 57 in the NCAA. WILL WADE The native of Nashville graduate of Franklin Road Academy in Nashville won his 100th game as a head coach during last season Now in his sixth season as a head coach (2 at Chattanooga, 2 at VCU and 2 at LSU), he has reestablished an interest in basketball at LSU and established a new culture for this program as it moves forward This from one of the youngest head coaches in the so-called power 5 major conferences this season (SEC, ACC, Big 12, Big 10, Pac 12)... Last season that meant Tremont Waters and Skylar Mays who combined to average 27.2 points (15.9 for Waters, 11.3 for Mays) and a combined 8.9 assists. Now Coach Wade has started three point guards in every game sophomore Waters, junior Mays and freshman Ja vonte Smart. While they are not on the court together all the time Darius Days is now playing some three spot as well the trio has become a solid group for Coach Wade to depend on. In 10 games, the trio has combined for 366 points, 95 rebounds, 107 assists and 64 steals while shooting a combined 127-of-280 from the field with 45 treys and 67-of-81 at the free throw line. The points are spread like this: Mays 132 (13.2 ppg); Smart 121 (12.1 ppg); and Waters 113 (11.3 ppg). TREMONT WATERS The sophomore from New Haven had his second 11-assist game of his career against Charleston (11/22). Here are the career 10 assist games for Waters: 2018-19 11 -- vs. Charleston 10 vs. UNCG 2017-18 11 vs. Arkansas 11 at Auburn 10 vs. Mississippi State 10 vs. North Florida 10 vs. UNCW 10 vs. UT-Martin Despite some troubles from the field (shooting just 27 percent from the arc), Waters is averaging 11.3 points per game and 5.2 assists a contest. Tremont is No. 6 in the SEC and 56th in the NCAA stats in assists while in steals Waters is the league leader at 3.0 a game and third in the nation. Only one player, Clarence Caesar back in the early 1990s, averaged 3.0 steals a game for a season for LSU. Waters needs three steals to become the 35th player to get to 100 career steals. SKYLAR MAYS Junior guard Skylar Mays joined teammate Tremont Waters with his own ESPN SportsCenter moment against Memphis (11/13) when he delivered an emphatic driving dunk that registered as the third best player of the day. Mays would score 19 points on 6-of-11 shooting, including three treys. He has 39 career double figure scoring games at LSU. Mays had an outstanding AdvoCare Invitational in which he led the team, averaging 17.0 points per game, 3.3 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game. He followed that up with two more double figure scoring games to run his current streak to seven consecutive double figure scoring games before it was stopped at Houston (12/12) on a cold shooting night when he only scored seven points. He is presently averaging 13.2 points per game for the season, 3.7 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.7 steals a contest. The second team Academic A-A chosen by CoSIDA members has a 4.01 GPA and is majoring in pre-med/kinesiology In addition to the CoSIDA honor last spring, he was honored by the LSU Black Faculty and Staff Caucus at their annual awards presentation as one of the recipients of the Jesse Owens Student Award for the highest GPA by undergraduate student-athletes. Mays, who leads the team in three-point field goals (21) is shooting 50 percent from the floor (45-of-90) and 21-of-50 from the arc (42 percent). Mays is presently 13th among active career scorers in the SEC with 762 points and he is seventh in the league in career active assists leaders with 235. He is third behind only Q Weatherspoon of Mississippi State and KeVaughn Allen of Florida in active career steals in the SEC with 109. JA VONTE SMART The freshman from Baton Rouge had been stuck on 16 as his best scoring game in the early going into this past Wednesday at Houston. He had posted that number against Louisiana Tech (11/16), Florida State (11/23) and against Incarnate Word (12/9). Against Tech he had seven field goals with two treys with six field goals and two treys against Florida State. Last Sunday against UIW he also hit six field goals and two treys in the win. Against Houston (12/12), Smart in 36 minutes hit for six field goals, one trey and was 5-of-5 at the free throw line to score his season high of 18 points. In the last two games for LSU, Smart is 12-of-24 with three-of-six treys and 7-7 free throws to go with 5 assists and four steals. In these two games, he has upped his average from 10.9 to 12.1 points a game. Since going 0-2 at the free throw line against Oklahoma State (11/25), Smart is 9-9 at the line in the last three games. For the season, Smart is 23-of-27 at the line. REBOUNDING NUMBERS The Tigers were outrebounded in four straight games versus Louisiana Tech (11/16), Charleston (11/22), Florida State (11/23) and Oklahoma State (12/1) before out rebounding Grambling by a 45-24 count and Incarnate Word, 43-20. In the last two games the Tigers also had margins of 16-5 against Grambling and 13-4 versus UIW on the offensive boards. But things took a turn back as Houston outrebounded LSU, 48-35, with an 18-12 advantage on the offensive boards. That helped lead the Cougars to a 15-6 advantage on second chance points. LSU s Emmitt Williams, who has two double doubles this year, leads the team in rebounding by a good margin, averaging 7 boards a game. Of his 63 rebounds, 29 are offensive (Against Houston, he had six rebounds and five were offensive). Williams is 9th in the SEC in rebounding average. Darius Days is second at (5.2) and Naz Reid is third in average at 4.8 a game. 2018-19 LSU MEN S BASKETBALL

LSU is 11 in the league in rebound average at 37.5 a game and sixth in rebound defense at 32.8 a contest. KBW AND THE BLOCKS As of Thursday, Kavell Bigby-Williams nine blocks against Grambling on Dec. 1 is tied for second most in a single game this season in the NCAA with the top two being in-state players: Jakeenan Gant, UL-Lafayette (vs. Southern) 10 Kavell Bigby-Williams, LSU (vs. Grambling) 9 Nate Reuvers, Wisconsin (vs. Stanford) 9 Brandon Gilbeck, Western Illinois (vs. Eastern Illinois) 9 Bigby-Williams averages 2.50 blocks per game and is ranked 27th in the country. He is third in the SEC in block average. As a team, LSU is 34th in the NCAA in blocks per game at 5.1 and 16th in the nation in total blocks at 51. However, LSU s team average is only ranked eighth in the SEC. KBW just missed becoming the third person in the last 30 years to have double figure blocks in a game. Shaquille O Neal had games with 12 blocks (once), 11 (3 times) and 10 blocks (twice). Stromile Swift had 11 in a game once. Since the start of the 2001-02 season, KBW joined the following LSU players who have had six or more blocks in a game are: Kavell Bigby-Williams (1), Tyrus Thomas (3), Chris Johnson (4), Jordan Mickey (4), Brandon Bass (2), Glen Davis (1), Anthony Randolph (1) and Malcolm White (1). Bigby-Williams has also had some good games offensively this season: Vs. Memphis (11/13) 7-of-7 FG 14 points, 4 rebounds Vs. Oklahoma State (11/25) 6-of-9 FG 12 points, 7 rebounds Vs. Grambling State (12/1) 4-of-6 FG 9 points. 5 rebounds Vs. Incarnate Word (12/9) 6-of-9 FG 14 points, 10 rebounds For the season, Bigby-Williams is averaging 7.3 points and 4.5 rebounds. He is averaging 16.2 minutes a game and is 30-of-44 from the field (68.2 percent). DARIUS DAYS STARTS LAST THREE LSU replaced one freshman for another in the starting lineup as Darius Days got the start in the last three games as Darius Days replaced Emmitt Williams in the LSU starting lineup. In the three games as a starter, Days had 13 points and nine rebounds against Grambling (12/1), nine points and eight rebounds against Incarnate Word (12/9) and seven points and three boards at Houston (12/12). In the three games, Days is 11-of-21 from the floor with three treys. His scoring average in the three games has gone up from 6.3 points to 7.3 points a game. For the season, Days is shooting 51 percent from the floor (25-49) with six treys. He is 17-of-20 from the free throw line and the freshman is averaging 5.2 rebounds. NAZ REID Naz Reid has in Coach Wade s words been doing a lot of good things but some of the stats were showing that but now in the last two games, he has posted his first back-to-back double figure scoring games since the opening three games of the season. Reid hit 7-of-8 field goals in a 16-point game against Incarnate Word (12/9) with seven rebounds, three assists and three steals. Against Houston, Reid had 13 points, hitting 4-of-8 from the field with an assist and a steal. Reid was 11-of-16 from the field the last two games. Reid opened his LSU career with 17 points against Southeastern Louisiana, 29 versus UNCG and 11 against Memphis. In those three games, Reid was 22-of-36 from the field, including 11-of-14 in the UNCG game (11/9). He is averaging 12.2 points and 4.8 rebounds along with 1.2 assists per game. He has started eight games and is shooting 46-of-94 from the field with 10 treys. MARLON TAYLOR Coach Wade has been talking about Marlon Taylor and his athletic ability and his hope that he will be a big asset for the Tigers as SEC begins next month. Against Incarnate Word, Taylor played 33 minutes with six points and seven rebounds. This comes after a Grambling game on Dec. 1 in which he scored nine points in 21 minutes, his highest scoring game since hitting for 15 points in 15 minutes in the Nov. 6 opener against Southeastern. Against Houston (12/12), Taylor did exactly what was needed in a game like that was, get to the free throw line. Taylor made 9-of-11 free throws and finished with 11 points and five rebounds. Even more impressive was his 9-11 after going 8-of-16 the first nine games. For the season now he is 17-of-27. Taylor is averaging 5.7 points and 2.7 rebounds.
