Splash Babies 6 mos-3 yrs Classes introduce safety for parents as they welcome their child to the water. Infants discover how to put their face in the water, blow bubbles and remain relaxed in a pool. Parents are required to be in the pool with his/her child. More information on page 5. NEW Group Swim Lessons for Adults 18 yrs and older Have you wanted to learn to swim, but feel you missed the boat? Do you think you re too old to learn a new trick? That s not the case and we can help! Beginning this fall, the J is offering Adult Group Swim Lessons! We want you to come as you are during this 12 week session. There are no requirements or class restrictions and you ll be in a shame free zone. Whether learning from scratch or jumping back in after several years, we welcome all levels to come and learn. SPLASH ACADEMY! Splash Academy is an all-encompassing, learn-to-swim program for all ages, designed to create confident, strong and lifelong swimmers, starting at six months. Instructors are trained to offer compassion-based instruction, positive reinforcement and encouragement each step of the way. The program provides more opportunity for skill/level progression, regular feedback and accomplishment awards for swimmers as they progress through the fishy levels. There are three broad areas of J Splash Academy: 1. Introduction to Water & Water Safety Skills 2. Basic Swimming Skills 3. Competitive Swimming Techniques As children progress, they swim their way through the fun development levels: Splash Babies Starfish Pufferfish Lionfish Angelfish Stingrays Hammerheads Splash Academy is designed to provide more opportunities for skill and level progression, regular feedback and accomplishment awards as swimmers progress. This program is suitable for children who can swim the length of the pool unaided all the way up to swim team participants. Enrollment requires evaluation by Aquatics staff. J Sharks Swim Club 5-18 yrs Join the club! You will work to improve your time, strokes and endurance as you become part of this great team! Swimmers from both buildings compete in a fun meet and challenge for bragging rights. Participants must be able to swim 25 yards of freestyle and backstroke. Session runs 12 weeks. American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification 15 yrs and older Learn the duties and responsibilities of lifeguards to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies and to carry them out in a professional manner. Certifies participant as an American Red Cross Lifeguard, includes certifications in CPR for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid and AED. Prerequisites: Must swim 300 yards continuously (100 yards each) using these strokes in this order: front crawl breaststroke either front crawl or breaststroke or a combination All 300 yards must use rhythmic breathing with your face in the water and a stabilizing, propellant kick Swim 20 yards using front crawl or breaststroke, surface dive to a minimum depth of seven feet, retrieve a 10 lb. object, return to surface, and swim back to starting point within 1m 40sec Must hold the 10 lb. object with both hands with your face above water while returning to starting point Notes: Must attend all four classes in a given session for certification. No refunds on cancellations made less than seven (7) days prior to the start of class. Participants who do not pass the prerequisite will receive a refund minus a fee of $25.
