This race is part of the 2018 Triathlon Ireland Duathlon National Series and is hosted by Belpark Triathlon Club. It is the first race in a 3 race summer series - Dublin s largest duathlon race series, with over 250 starters. You will enjoy racing on closed roads in Dublin s iconic Phoenix Park. Parking and Road Access Parking is available at the Papal Cross car park, in the overflow car park adjacent to Dublin Zoo and along Chesterfield Avenue (the main road running up through the Park). There will be no parking on Acres Road or Military Road as this is part of the road closure for the race. Gardai & traffic marshals will be enforcing this so please cooperate. Timetable 8.00am 9.15am 9.30am 9.45am 10.00am 1.30pm Registration & Transition Open Registration Closes Transition Closes Race Briefing Race Starts (3 waves at 15 minute intervals) Prize Giving Registration There are two options for registration. Online registration closes on TI website on Thursday night. Late registrations are available on Saturday morning from 8am. Morning Registration - Phoenix Park Registration on the day of the event is located beside transition at the north west corner of the 15 Acres playing pitches area of the park and is open from 8.00am until 9.15am. There will also be a bag drop tent, toilets and refreshments. 1
You will receive your race number, a timing chip (to be secured on your left ankle), a bike sticker (to go on the bike frame) and a goodie bag. Your wave allocation (1, 2 or 3) will also be confirmed & visible on printed boards. Online preregistered competitors will be allocated to wave 1 or 2. On the day registrations will start in wave 3. Everyone is asked to arrive early for registration as we will stop taking registrations at 9.15am sharp. Please do not bring your bike to the registration area, as space is limited and bikes left on the ground are a safety hazard. Race License In order to race you must have either a 2018 Triathlon Ireland race licence (please bring your membership card to registration) or a One Day Membership (ODM). If you do not have your TI membership card, you can download/print a temporary copy from the TI website. You can also purchase a ODM at registration on the day for 15 - but to ensure speedy registration we would recommend you purchase in advance by midnight Friday from TI: https://www.triathlonireland.com/get-involved/one-day-membership/ Transition <08.00-09.30> Transition opens at 8:00am. It will be neutralised. Bicycles must be roadworthy (working brakes, bar ends plugged) and will be checked as they enter transition. Helmets are compulsory and should be worn when entering transition. No bags are to be left in transition. There is a bag drop tent available. Transition closes at 09.30am. 2
Pre-Race Briefing <09.45> A pre-race briefing will take place at 9:45am sharp. All competitors must be present as this will contain important information, including any last-minute changes to the course. The Triathlon Ireland Technical Official will also brief you on ITU rules, since it is a TI sanctioned race. Race Start - 3 Waves You are allocated to 1 of 3 waves, starting at 15 minute intervals. Changes are not permitted, due to need to space out bike traffic on the course for safety. Wave allocations will be published on our website on Friday. Athletes will be allocated to 1 of 3 start waves, which will also be confirmed to you at the registration area. A printed board will also display waves, start times and names. Waves are allocated based on the average run time you provided at registration - faster entrants will be in wave 1. It is not possible to change your allocated wave - your race time will be based off your chip, so wave 2 or 3 starters will be included in final results & prize categories. <10.00> - Wave 1 (online entrants) <10.15> - Wave 2 (online entrants) <10.30> - Wave 3 (online entrants, beginners & on the day entrants) Run Course Run 1 is 2 anti-clockwise laps of 2.5km each (total 5km) of the playing pitches area of the 15 Acre. Stay on the footpath at all times. All traffic cones must be kept to your left. After lap 1, you will divert to your left around transition to start lap 2 beside the start line. Lap 2 will continue on the same route and you will enter transition. 3
Transition You must enter and exit transition by the official entry and exit points. We have a neutralised transition and places are not allocated. All boxes and bags will be removed from transition before the race. The usual TI rules on nudity will be observed and applied. You must put your helmet on before touching your bike. T1 - run 1 entry near finish line (stay to right of finish line), affix helmet, pick up bike, run to bottom of row and run to bike out. Turn right, run 50m towards grass verge, cross over carpet (take care - it could be slippy on downslope), turn left onto Acres Road, proceed 15m to mount line, pick up speed and start lap. Beware of cyclists on your right starting laps 2 and 3. T2 - after turning left at the Khyber Pass corner, stay left on Acres Road to enter the T2 area and you ll see the dismount line about 150m from the corner, turn left over carpet onto grass verge, run for 30m to T2 bike in, rack your bike, follow signs to run 2 exit towards start line. Relay There will be a designated area in transition for relays. The runner enters transition and hands over the ankle strap chip in the designated area for relays. Only then, the cyclist go to the bike, put on the helmet first and touch the bike. In T2 the cyclist must rack the bike before handing the chip to the runner. Para athletes There will be designated area in transition for para athletes to rack tandem bikes. Safety - ensure your bike is roadworthy: the handlebars are plugged with bar ends, brakes are working, and no earphones are permitted. 4

Bike Course The bike course of 5 x laps of a 4km circuit on closed roads. Course direction is anticlockwise - starting after a short run passing transition, over the verge, the bike mount line is 10m after crossing the verge. Cyclists will proceed down Acres Road, past St Mary s Hospital (note no overtaking zone, restricted to left lane only), left onto Military Road and around S-bends, back up the Khyber Pass and onto Acres Road. The dismount line will be 20m before crossing the verge near the mount line, there a 25m run back to transition. Gardai will be in position at St Mary s Hospital, bottom of Khyber Pass, top of Khyber Pass & Chesterfield Monument. Non-Drafting Rule It is forbidden to cycle close behind another competitor in order to gain a benefit from the reduced wind resistance or drag. The bicycle draft zone will be 10 meters long measured from the leading edge of the front wheel (approx. 5 bike lengths). An athlete may enter the draft zone of another athlete but must be seen to be progressing through that zone. A maximum of 20 6
seconds will be allowed to pass through the zone of another athlete. A penalty of 2 minutes applies for drafting. No Overtaking Zone: after 800m The course then continues downhill along Acres Road towards St Mary s Hospital. The 150m section between St Mary s and the start of S-bends road is a no overtaking zone. Please slow down entering this section, due to sharp corners, a single lane road & uneven surface. There will be vehicles accessing the hospital which will be travelling in the opposite direction, so the road will be taped off. this zone will be disqualified. Automatic disqualification: Anyone cycling dangerously or overtaking in Next up on the bike route are the famous S-bends of the Military Road which lead you onto a downhill section close to the Island Bridge Gate. This section requires caution as it leads into a sharp left hand turn on to the Khyber Pass road. You will be instructed to slow down, please heed the warnings and exercise caution. Note: the road surface is in poor condition at the bottom of the Khyber Pass for 100m, so exercise caution for potholes or uneven road surface. The race then heads up Khyber Pass road a climb of 1km. At the top of the pass you will turn left and pass by the transition area you will have completed one lap. Run 2 After T2, the second run is a single lap, following the same 2.5km loop as Run 1 back to the finish line. Finish Once you ve crossed the finish line please follow the marshals instructions and head towards the post-race area. Complimentary refreshments will be available: water & bananas The Triathlon Physio and NTC physio students will be providing post-race massage in the main tent. 7
Last Lap Cafe will be serving drinks & snacks available for purchase. Transition will re-open once all cyclists have completed the course. You will need your race number to collect your bike. Retain your race bib number after the race - it's required to take your bike from transition & also at bag drop Prizes The prize giving will take place after the race by 1.30pm. Prizes will be awarded in the following categories: 1st female & 1st male - 100 voucher 2nd female & 2nd male - 80 voucher 3rd female & 3rd male - 60 voucher Age group prizes in all categories from 16-70+, subject to minimum number of competitors per category. Triathlon Ireland race rules will be implemented at our race and we expect fair play from every competitor. Competitors shall not deliberately obstruct or interfere with other competitors. Disqualifications will applied for littering, abusing marshals or cheating. Follow the instructions provided by marshals and the Gardaí at all times. There will be a first aid station at the transition area. If you have any complaints, please report to the race organiser or one of the TI Officials as soon as you can. 8
